    Any ANG out there?

Yea, exactly. Ill call some of my Air Force buddies and see if they can lend me their decoder rings ;)

    Any ANG out there?

It reads... "Right, leet speak" I just missed this revolution, but being close enough to it... I unfortunately know what this is. leet = elite. My understandng is that it started with a first person shooter (Counter Strike). The whole substituting in numbers for letters came with that whole...

    Recruiters/ROTC

Actually it wasnt meant to be devious at all (really). That topic of percentages/chances has been beat to death. I wasnt asking about what they want, but instead what the quality/enjoyment is offered by serving on it. As for the thread overall... I was thinking first about how from past...

    JUL 20 Board

Awesome! Congrats. Your recruiter deserves some credit for calling it too. That must be a great feeling to have the recruiter say you are going to get good news and deliver. Go take him out for some beer (if thats allowed). Be safe, and have some fun.

    Recruiters/ROTC

Ahh thanks I didnt know that. I wasnt sure if that was a shore tour (you are stationed here, your board type is this, etc). Makes sense to have it be a TAD thing. Thanks for the info... Have any of you guys served on a board, what was it like?

    Recruiters/ROTC

Thanks for all the answers (I dont get the SWO stuff btw). Another question (well same, just new target): What about selection boards? Is that a show stopper? I would imagine that would not be. Is that even a tour or do they just randomly select people to come off of their tours for a brief...

    Recruiters/ROTC

Is getting a job (tour?) as a Recruiter or ROTC considered an honor or is that considered someone who is effectively terminal. I would think that would be a good shore tour, but I was just curious if that is considered to help or hurt your career if you are in it for the long haul.

    The July Board did meet

My application was fully complete and done around the 16th of June. The only thing added later was around the 20th when I took the PRT. Oh well.

    The July Board did meet

Just an FYI the July board did meet (I talked to my recruiter today). My package was not reviewed due to it not arriving in time. That is frustrating to say the least, but I suppose thats how the process goes. Best of luck to everyone who was reviewed this month, and be sure to post up...

    NAS Alameda

I'm not sure other than my Grand Mothers Brother flew some type of plane out of there. I have been there quite a few times as a kid (as its about 35 minutes from my first 18 years of existance). Its such an amazing piece of land as far as location and view. Its too bad they closed it and havent...

    C-130 Marine NFO's??

The Col. flying the plane didn't look too busy, in fact I am nearly completely confident he was passed out for a good 1/3 of the flight. The JO did most of the flying. The autopilot abilities were pretty amazing too, come to think of it other than Take Off/Landing there was not much 'flying'...

    C-130 Marine NFO's??

I should have posted sooner, and this info is Air Force based but I imagine it to be fairly accurate for the question. I got to fly in a C-130J from NAS Point Mugu up to VOR Point Reyes and back. They have gone (as posted) pilot, co-pilot, and load master up top. They say the...

    GOING DOWNTOWN -- ISRAELI Style

I just read that whole 6 piece article... I had no idea how little effort had been placed on this. It almost seems like there was effort to hide it and just make it go away. Crazy.

Can I still be selected for OCS regardless of background

I think that was a given before you started this thread. It is kinda disappointing that is all you got from the people who posted here.

Do graduates from the Naval Academy get selected first for Naval Aviation?

Not to mention (as it may have already been mentioned in this thread), it seems he is speaking of the Air Force. In the AF first pick goes to AFA, then ROTC, and the remainder is OTS. So if you wanted to be a pilot in the Air Force your best bet is the AFA. I was told by a buddy of mine there...

Can I still be selected for OCS regardless of background

My only guess would be as mentioned getting your CO to write something to endorse you. In addition depending on your age perhaps you can apply at a later point (give it 5 years if you have the time)? I imagine charges that were dropped look better after 5 years of being completely spot free...

    TH-57 crashes near Whiting

I have to admit (and I assume most aviators/hopefulls would agree) that has to be among the best ways to go. It is terribly sad to hear of any losses to any community, but I know that if I am to pass I would like it to be doing what I love. I imagine that to be the mentality of most, probably...

Plane crash at Hillsboro Ore. Airshow

Report says it was a flame out on take off. Thats too bad from reading the guys website http://www.baumhedlundlaw.com/attorneys/robertguilford.htm it looks like he was involved in a lot of good things for the aviation community. They say they arent sure who was flying the plane (if it was the...

    T-34 Wing Spar Issue

That's why I asked. Thanks for the reply (both of you). The flight school I used has one in the hanger but last time I asked about it (12 months ago) they told me it was grounded because people flew the wings off of them in TX. I was hoping they were no longer grounded, I want to go up in it...

And a thread about air conditioning becomes this...(split from "Stupid Question")

Haha it makes me look like a total dick, as if I had made a new thread just to call out C-12s. Oh well im sure that will go down as one of those times I should have just kept my mouth shut.

    T-34 Wing Spar Issue

Does anyone know what ever came of that T-34 Wing Spar issue that caused so many of them to be grounded? It didnt impact the military trainers right? Are the civilian ones cleared again to fly?

Iranian UAV orbits CVN-76 for 25 minutes

That is also what I heard, they had their ECM off... Perhaps my ignorance will show through blindly now, but that seems like an incredibly stupid mistake. How much effort/work can it possibly take to turn the thing on (obviously a crew runs it) while off the coast from a nation that would like...

Iranian UAV orbits CVN-76 for 25 minutes

Thats a huge surprise that this has all esclated so much so fast. As far as the technology involved im sure it isnt much more than a decently large radio A/c like what you could get at the hobby store. The question is what are they using to navigate it into the ship? How far can the feed...

    Grading Astb Sample Tests

BTW it also says it was created: "Wednesday, October 07, 1998 12:02:57 PM" So that was back when versions 1 and 2 were being used. Also from some reading it was common for NRDs to have the answer key, so that may well have been accurate. Now that is not the case and only NAMI/NOMI have it.

    Rogue Waves

They occur in storms and from other things getting together at the right time and place (swell, wave frequency, and most importantly winds). The southern most air flow pattern has no continental barriers so the speeds pick up to very high speeds. In addition with no breaks the water currents can...

    Grading Astb Sample Tests

If you look on the chart it has a raw score and a weighted score. I assume the weighting takes care of the ranking (i.e. the 60 turning into 68)?
  44. R

    $

I think its factored into Hazard Pay. And actually SF passed a law (which may have been repealed by the state) banning recruitment within the city limits....
  45. R

    Grading Astb Sample Tests

I believe that was the formula, I have seen it before also... But if you look it has BI (the Bio section), which was only in versions 1 and 2. So it would not apply to versions 3, 4, 5... and I am sure the rest was probably changed accordingly.

I really dont know what to tell you, I have spoke to lots of OCS/BDCP candidates and heard similiar. I guess my advice is if you have to recruit yourself, then do it, it will be worth it (I really cant tell you for sure though, as im still in the app process myself, but im hoping :)). I...

    Next pilot board date?

The anticipation sure is rough. Funny how critical timing can be sometimes. None the less, whenever the board meets, lets hope the people from this board do well. :) Edit: I got a third from my recruiter to the opinion that the board meets on 20 JUL.

    Ab cramping/I am an idiot

Haha, so as I mentioned in my BDCP post from a couple weeks ago I decided to retake my PRT. I had an overall Good High (passing all events) on the first one. I did better on this one, but I am laughing at my stupidity at the moment.... Last night when I was looking at PRT scales I must have...
