    Final Select!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm In

I can't tell you the exact reason behind the program. It appears to be just another avenue of getting qualified individuals into an all-volunteer force. The military has used education/scholarships/money for college as a recruiting tool for some time, so it seems to fall in line with that line...

You're forgetting something - BDCP is a college program, i.e. we are poor college kids! BTW, I'm still waiting for the food stamps they promised.... Congrats!!

Supreme Court Allows Military Recruiters on Campus

Wow, we'd never have a problem here like that in Grand Forks. In fact, if it weren't for the AFB, there likely wouldn't be much of a town. What's interesting is how each branch of the military is the "only" one that guarantees a flight contract up here. This week it's the Marines, next week...

    ASTB Prep gouge (sort of)

http://www.columbia.edu/~mmx1/astb A very comprehensive review of the ASTB, including aviation and nautical sections. This website is also in the sticky "New ASTB Overview". Good Luck!

    NWA and DELTA

Didn't NW pilots go on strike within the last 5 years or so? What was the reason/outcome of that? Also, I found it interesting how the article worded some of the ideas: "...who are being asked to provide $195 million in savings."

    PRK before applying for BDCP???

I concur with what Richard and mkoch said. I had PRK done after I was pro-rec'd and everything worked out because the planets aligned just right. The application will take you a month or two to put together, so why not spend that time healing? Good luck!

    ASQT Question among another

I've always been told that the officer selection board looks at your whole package, not just something that happened 4 or 5 years ago. It seems that you've come a long way since that time and the board should take that into consideration.

    Question for you airline/military guys

Doesn't riddle have an altitude chamber? Tell ya what, come on up to UND and we'll let you use ours.... And just to add to the thread...does your sim use the EROS style quick-don masks that the CRJ actually uses? They're really kinda neat and even comfortable. You simply press the button...

That's interesting. I took form 5 and it had the F6F Hellcat. When did you take it? Things may have changed since I took it a year ago Jan.

    Spatial Apperception plane

If I remember correctly the airplane was a silhouette of a F6F Hellcat. Stick your pencil or finger in the middle of the picture and see where everything is at. Is the ground above the pencil or below? And so forth....

    Question about BDCP

Yeah there's definitely a few of here on AW. I know like 4 or 5 guys at my school that are BDCP SNA.

    Those with PRK experience.

I had PRK done last March and it was by far one of the best investments I've made. I wore contacts for 8 years prior, and I am very happy with the fact that I do not need to take the time to put on, remove, clean, purchase, etc contact lenses. And glasses, I could never stand to wear glasses...

    Question about eye surgery

From my research about LASIK and PRK prior to my PRK, I found that comfort was the only real benefit to LASIK. I was in pain for about 3 days after the surgery, but I'm glad I got the PRK instead. Whalebite nailed it on the head...

Gulfstream V with Gear Problem on news

Another evil thing to do... When doing a landing contest with an IP, on short, short final be sure to ask if they were going to put the gear down for this landing. Fvcks them up every time (sometimes even in non-retractable gear planes)....

    The break

So does the USAF. Captain Brian Udell, an Eagle driver, ejected in supersonic flight over the Atlantic and barely survived to tell about it. Check out the link for a small clip of his story: http://www.aviationspeakers.com/Speakers/Brian-Udell.html

    The break

Thanks for the info guys. So about the break point - is there no standard spot on the airfield or do you typically break at the numbers?
  24. nugget81

    F/A-18 aileron explanation

Well let's talk about how a normal airplane banks with ailerons - the downward moving aileron increases the camber of the wing, thereby creating more lift than the opposite wing with the upward moving aileron (less camber and less lift). It doesn't matter if the aircraft is using flaperons or...

    The break

What does the typical overhead pattern look like? Being that I have no experience flying military aircraft, I'm curious how the overhead break is done in the real world (my ATC tower class has been practicing overheads lately). I realize that it will differ according to the aircraft and...

    BDCP and Pro-Rec?

They are one in the same. BDCP is the commissioning source. SNA, NFO, Supply, Crypto, Intel, etc are all communities within the Navy that you can be recruited for through BDCP. A pro-rec for any of those indicates that the Navy wants you for that specfic community. As it was said before...

    Vision as a Disqualifier

Keep in mind that PRK requires a waiver as well. In fact, when you go to MEPS with PRK done, you are automatically NPQ'd. I am a big fan of PRK as it has done wonders for me, but be sure to do your research and make sure the risk is proportional to the reward.

    Finished ASTB, thoughts/question

I talked to a Marine recruiter about the ASTB scores and he indicated that they do not care about the OAR and are looking for applicants to meet a minimum threshold for the PFAR & FOFAR. That being said, they place much more importance on PT than the Navy does.

The Good, The Bad and The Stupid...

The FAA would likely place an emergency revocation order for his certificates (if he had any civilian ratings). That's revocation, not suspension. New Commercial about the Military

So I was watching the Military Channel and saw a commercial for www.todaysmilitary.com. It comes across as some of those Army commercials where the kid is trying...

    Final Questions on ASTB

The guides are fairly good in terms of preparing a person for the ASTB.
