    Getting PRK

The process may vary according to how you are applying for a pilot slot. If you apply for BDCP you must wait at least 6 months after the surgery to apply. With other routes I am not aware of the process. As for paperwork, the Navy will want to see all pre-surgery documents (eye maps, vision...

    Study Guides ASTB

You seem to have all that you need for the ASTB. You don't really need to know anything about the Navy for the test, except for aircraft types and designators, but the nautical stuff may show up on your test depending on what form you take. Good Luck!!

    GPA and your school

I don't believe that there should be some magic formula to compute and equalize all the scoring systems. I wish that the grading scales were the same across the board, however. At my school the grading scale is as follows: 92% and above - A 84% to 91% - B 76% to 83% - C 60% to 76% - D...

    I did it...

I had put in my application for BDCP before PRK. I was preselected for SNA, went to MEPS, found out that my vision wasn't up to par, and did PRK two weeks later. Now I have to go back to MEPS for an eye exam. I have to wait 3 months from the date of surgery. Luckily in BDCP, once an...

    Navy PRK Stopped!!!

Even if it were true, that would simply mean that you may have to spend a little money to make your vision better. My PRK cost $2500 and it has been the best investment I've made yet...

Got my Test Scores back today!

Those are decent scores, but you may want to try for 7's and an OAR at least in the 50's to truly be competitive for SNA. Given the info you've provided about the test, and the fact that you've now seen how the test looks first hand, those scores should not be out of reach for you. You should...

    ASTB Study Guide

The above is an old thread. See link below for updated ASTB info: http://www.airwarriors.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10409

    I did it...

It's now been 2 weeks since the surgery. Went to the eye doctor yesterday afternoon and I'm 20/20 in each eye, 20/15 when using both. Doc said that he expects that by the end of April my eyes will each be 20/15 and possibly 20/10. I am not seeing halos any longer and my doctor even cleared me...

    newer gouge...

Generally speaking, the ASTB is the same format for each form. The difference is in the questions you actually see. By studying the gouges and knowing your information down cold, you will do well regardless of which form you take. I used the ARCO Military Flight Aptitude Test Book, as well as...

What do you think of the forum upgrade?

Everything looks great and all, but is it just me or has the server slowed down since the upgrade??

    looking for opinions...

That sounds like a safer course of action. However, you should really do what your heart says. If you truly believe that you will be able to switch to pilot after you get in, then go for it. You said that you'd be happy filling any seat in the cockpit, but do you really believe it? When I...

    Just took the ASTB!

When I took the computer version in January I received my scores right after finishing the test. Either way, let us know how you did!

    I did it...

It's been 1 week since the surgery and my vision is awesome (20/20 left eye, 20/25 right). I still have some light halos at night, but the doctor said that they should go away before 4 weeks have elapsed. I can't wait to see the final results when I'm completely healed!

    ASTB Questions

Yeah, Coldsteel has it right. Just use the study guides provided here at airwarriors and most people find that's enough to do well. I went a little further and used the ARCO book. You'll find the questions are basically the same format for the test, study guides, and book.

    The long wait begins

That's true - different schools have different rules. Both of my schools had policies in place stating that grades would not be changed after 1 year. However, there are exceptions to every rule and both of my grades were changed well after the 1 year mark. The lesson here: You can't get what...

    The long wait begins

THAT IS NOT TRUE!!! You can get grades changed by talking to your professor for that class and having him/her submit a grade change form. I know because I had 2 F's changed into W's. This was done at two different community colleges. The key is to be sincere and have a really good reason...

quick question regarding PRK and MEPS

I did the same thing (went to MEPS, then got PRK), but I was told 3 months from the eye surgery was the soonest I would be eligible for re-exam (eyes only) for the Navy.
  19. nugget81

    I did it...

I spent $2500 for both eyes. I wore contacts wiith a prescription of -1.25 and -1.50. The best I could muster without the contacts was 20/70 and 20/100 for visual aquity.

    I did it...

Yesterday was the big day...I had PRK done. It hurt like hell for the first 3 hours afterward, but I feel much better today. If anyone has any questions about the procedure or healing afterward, please ask away and I'll answer questions as best I can.

    Pilot Slots

Here's what the others didn't tell you: The Navy has too many pilots currently but the forecast for FY 2007 is unclear. The Marines need pilots and have even gone so far as to ask some Navy guys to transfer to the Marines. If you want to be a Navy pilot, apply to the Navy BDCP and get paid to...

    Custom vs Conventional

I am scheduled to have conventional PRK on March 17. The doctor told me that with my prescription (-1.5 left, -1.25 right) that I probably wouldn't respond any better to custom than conventional and that I should save the extra dough ($500 difference). For those guys that have had PRK done...

    ASTB in 9 Days!

I drove 1 1/2 hours each way to take my ASTB, but I felt ready to take it when I did. Be ready on your own terms- Failing to plan is a plan to fail.

    ASTB in 9 Days!

First off, don't take it if you aren't ready. You get to take it on your schedule, not your OSO's. Second, you have plenty of time to study. I took mine on a Monday and only studied the Fri, Sat, & Sun before. I used the Arco book and gouge listed on this site. I pulled out a 8/8/8 56...
