SWO BOARD 17AUG20

I am colorblind, not severely but enough to not pass a PIP test. Even getting the CTR job with a 91 was tough, when I went to select a job I was only offered culinary specialist. I refused to sign for it and the regional master chief in charge of recruiting for like 5 states was pretty pissed I left without signing and pulled some strings to get me CTR a week later. I honestly won't be very picky with any job at all when applying to OCS from within. Whichever community will take me. I have a preference obviously but I'm going to apply to whichever will take me.

I'm just confused on if I can just take random classes still and have that cushion my undergrad gpa or how that even works, do the credits have to have gone towards my degree? Or if I'm better off going for my masters and busting butt to keep my gpa as high as possible to average with my undergrad first. Either way I'm going to get my masters but I'm not sure of taking random classes to help my undergrad gpa is even worth my time?

If you're going to get a masters, don't waste the time trying to change your UGPA. It would take a lot of time and money to boost a GPA from that level to even a 3.0 and it's not competitive. Get a masters, truly work through that, and go from there. If you take shortcuts now, you'll take shortcuts later. I applied to OCS with a 2.7 UGPA but I have a 3.7 masters GPA.

The colorblindness will really limit you with officer positions, Supply and Intel are the 2 I believe you can go into with your condition, and both are very difficult to get in to, that being said going for your masters is probably the best route to go whether you stay in or get out.

Thank you sir, yeah I did the calculations and it would take straight A's for a year and a half to get to a 3.0. Not super practical. I think I'll just work but butt off, try to be a good sailor, and use the tuition assistance to work on my masters. Put together a good application and hope for the best. Good luck to you on picking up chief or OCS!

Unfortunately I think this is likely correct. I suspect there is still quite a lot of waiting for us.
I’m crossing my fingers I hear before 10/1. I’m scheduled to go back to grad school for my second masters if I don’t get selected on this board.

Something lucky for me is that I am actually in the “dual process” in the Navy which means I won’t be shipped to boot camp before I hear back any result from the officer board. And meanwhile they will still keep my enlisted side bonus and position. The regional master chief (E9) reviewed my contract the other day and said he will take care of me and I would be ok.

But even so, waiting for the results till October 1st ?! would be a pain in the as.s for me. But let’s be positive guys because I suspect the longer it takes the more people they are gonna take. Feel free to correct me ... it could be my personal naive wish ;)

I am in the same program but just recently found out that my Enlisted job got changed since I was supposed to be on the April Board and got rolled into this board. I definitely signed something saying I would be willing to wait for the results before shipping enlisted. They keep trying to get me to ship on time though regardless of board results. Waiting until October is definitely an issue.

Is OCS up and running? I know enlisted boot camp has been moved to army facilities. So will officer candidate school need to be handled the same way?

My coworkers son graduated from boot camp a few months ago and the pictures were at RTC Great Lakes, a quick look at FB for RTC shows them in full swing at the RTC facility.
