Hey fellas! I'm out in Mesa Arizona visiting the grandfolks! The Cubs have spring traning out here at Ho Ho Cam Park. I went to the opening game today and almost got killed by a screaming foul ball. I got up to hit the head, and on my way back I saw the screamer just miss my grandpa and nail the exact spot where I was sitting. Anyway, I financed a new Chevy with Huntington National Bank, the rates will drop to 6% once they recieve copies of my orders, if that helps psu_midn. When I get the orders, who knows? Hopefully soon! This will also apply to my Sallie-Mae FFelps student loans under the soilders and sailors act.

From what I have heard the reduced interest rate applys for credit cards as well as standard loans. The Soldiers and Sailors Civil Relief Act does not differentiate between types of creditors. It simply refers to creditors. I got my bank to lower my interst rate on one of my loans and I'm calling my credit card companies this coming week.

What's up guys!? I just got back from my Vegas vacation yesterday. I didn't hit the jackpot or anything, so looks like I'll still be going to OCS and flight school, hehe. Wow, I have a TON of stuff to do between now and March 23rd. I am going to be extremely busy.

Well, need to get back on swimming/running routine. Talk to you all later, just figured I'd say hi.

hey guys...
man, so close to time, huh! well, i am trying to take care of all my business here in lexington so i can be worry free in p'cola. that said i've been trying to figure this loan thing out. after talking to a couple people i was sure i had it all right, but i just called my recruiter and he said that the soldier/sailor thing was just about getting your job back if you went to war from the reserves. is this true. also lets talk about the hotel situation, seeing that time is drawing near. my recruiter suggested the naval lodge, but anywhere is great for me. also, i'm not bringing that blanket, i think i can do without...i've been making my bed for a long time, i guess i'm saying i've got the practice. i read that we are not supposed to bring any books or anything, does that include our Bible's...which just might be a welcome repreive from the ocs experience. anyway, thats about it.

Hey guys, I survived the weekend and now its time to get ready! Matt I didn't go to vegas but I went to the casino's here in Shreveport and I didn't do so well either Looks like I will be seeing yall at OCS here in a couple of weeks. Luke, I haven't gotten this loan thing figured out either so we are in the same boat. I was going to bring that blanket but I also decided not to worry about it. As far as the hotel situation goes, The Navy Lodge is cool with me! I'm sure it be a suitable place for our last time as a civilians. Well gotta go and run some errands.

Later,

Thomas

hey guys. are we going to be able to pay bills from OCS? the only bill i will have will be a cell phone bill. however, i might also get my last bills from things like cable, electric, phone, etc......I'm trying to decide if i should have all mail sent to my dad's, or if i will be fine if it comes down there. do you all have a cell phone? are you leaving it at home for the time being? the Navy Lodge is cool with me. is that a regular hotel? is it something we can book online?

how is the gouge coming along? I am trying to memorize the Code of Conduct, but that is a bitch. I have the general orders down, and getting there on the Conduct. i know the general rank structure, but haven't memorized the huge paragraphs pertaining to the insignia that goes along with each rank.

oh well, guess we'll find out soon enough. Later guys!

Hey Fellas, I called the Navy Lodge and they do not have any opennings for the 23rd! Looks like we will have to shoot for the Ramada or Holiday Inn. Usually with the Navy Lodge you have to make at least a month a head of time reservation. Oh well!

okay...
so i called up the j.a.g. headquarters in washington to get the low down on the soldier/sailor relief act. i had been getting contradictory reports from my recruiter (whom said it was only for re-employment - yet another reason to double check everything they say), my bank (who said it only applied to those in hostile fire situations - yet another reason to hate banks) and some random guy in the dentist office (whom gave me the right info - yet another reason to believe in the randomness of truth).
anyway...the truth is this, among other provisions provided by the sscra of 1994 all debts (except for student loans - thus nulifying the word all) incurred before one enters active duty is capped at a certian percentage rate.
according to the j.a.g luitenant whom i spoke to (i kept wanting to call him harm - from the show, anyway...sorry) what we need to do is get all the information together concerning the name of contact person at your creditor (be it bank, credit card, etc.)as well as the address. next draft a letter explaining that you are now in active service and say that you want to invoke the sscra. the luitenant also said to set up a time to meet with a naval lawyer when we get to p'cola inorder to have him or her look over the letter.
like i said this is good for debt you have BEFORE you report, so if you want to buy that car, i say do it before you leave. also, it does not go into effect until you have reported and he said to include your military i.d. and orders in the letter, thus it wouldn't do much good to send the letter previous to reporting.
i hope this helps out

Alright guys, I was looking on Holiday Inn's website, and they have rooms for $59. Does this suit everybody? It is at 6501 Pensacola Blvd, Highway 29. Let's all go ahead and agree on it and book something tonight. I looked on some of the discount websites like Hotel.com and others and I am getting the same $59 rate. We should get reimbursed anyways. Let me know what y'all think.

Here's a great steak place down in P'Cola for your last dinner. I went to college down there and had the best (and biggest: 32oz.!!!) steak I've had. The place is called Mesquite Charlies. Great prices, great food, great place! Call ahead to make sure you don't have to make reservations due to the crowd.

Congratulations on your upcoming OCS! I've been following this post with great enthusiasm and am getting anxious for you dudes just reading it! Have fun! Just remember you'll be in OCS the next day in case a 2 pound steak will slow you down!
