Hey guys, for those of who spend time training or otherwise stationed at corpus christi. I was wondering how the town was? Not the NAS, but the actual town, is it ghetto, high crime, would you want to live there? I am considering being a police officer there

Parts of the town are REALLY ghetto. The parts that aren't just plain suck, as in boring, smelly, lame. Honestly, I like to think you can have a good time anywhere with the right attitude, but you have to try pretty hard in Corpus.

This seems to be a pretty common attitude among single guys in Corpus.

I, however, loved it there. I lived on the beach, went surfing/fishing/boating every day. The bars on the island were prime cougar hunting grounds, but there were bars downtown, too.

Are there lots of attractive young ladies ripping their clothes off in Corpus? No, but there's a hell of a lot more to do there than in Milton.

I've been in Corpus for over a year now, I don't mind it. Will I miss it when I'm gone? No. Could there have been worse places to get stuck? Yes.

Yeah, Pensacola had stuff and was 40 minutes or so away. I just didn't see why everyone thought it was so great.

The Milton-Biloxi trip was almost the same length as the Corpus-San Antonio trip, and when you add in San Antonio, Corpus just gets that much better.

I wouldn't live here if I had the choice. High crime rate, it's hot as nuts, the tail is sub-par at best, the roads blow (their idea of paving is a layer of tar covered in gravel), everything corrodes like a motherfucker, and did I mention it's hot as balls? The beaches are decent but the viz and waves suck and you get a nice view of those majestic oil rigs. Classy. Oh and if a hurricane comes ashore, you're fucked.

I understand that a good time can be had if you drive to Austin/San Antonio/Houston, but who wants to move somewhere that requires a 2-1/2 to 4 hour drive and a hotel room just to have fun?

There are definitely worse places to get stationed, but if I were moving somewhere on my own dime would I move to Corpus Christi? Aw hell no.

Whoever is in charge of the roads here should be fired. That stretch of the SPID that was just paved used to be the smoothest stretch of road in the area. It was beautiful. If I cycle over that stretch now my hands go numb from the vibration. I guess they don't believe in asphalt rollers here.

I'm not looking forward to moving there at all. I've lived in Corpus and Pensacola (as a stud and IP in P-cola) and much prefer it to the Texas town. I'll be in Kingsville but I dread the town. I had a good time as a stud being when I wasn't flying, I was drunk. Can't beat P-cola beaches and the summer time down there was just great...though hot as balls.

Call me crazy but I like it better than Pcola as far as single life is concerned...you just have to know where and when to go. For some reason people don't get to bars around here until like 0100.

The roads do, however, suck. And Pcola was a nicer place to look at.

I agree with Bogey in that P'cola is a lot more fun of a town, but there certainly is a good amount of fun to be had in Corpus.

For those that live on the island, I don't even understand how you could even begin to complain, oil rig in sight or not... I have some friends that live in Compas Bay Apts... Those places are the bomb, to say the least. Barbeque out back, right on the canal... Walking distance to the dive bars on the island... 2 Minute drive to the beach.... My type of life.

There are MUCH worse places to live... When I retire will I move my family to Corpus? Ehh, no. But with the right attitude, a single dude can have a metric butt ton of good times in Corpus. Oh, and BTW, 3 hour drive away, and you are in nightlife/hot women paradise, aka AUSTIN, TX. (well, the women aren't as good as Charleston, SC, but they come close).

Corpus sucks. It's a shitty small town filled with thugs who think they are hardasses straight out of South Central. I don't envy the police officers there, but a lot of them were too busy hassling me on SPID to and from work while the Vatos were knifing people downtown for me to feel too much sympathy for them.
