Fronch - good luck on your board, and your interviews if you have not had them yet. From my experience over the last few months, most I can say about the possibility of doing active duty NIOBIC is that yes, it is a possibility, but many factors will impact if that is the route you decide to go.
Thanks. I interviewed back in March (it went very well) and my packet got submitted about a month ago, so it's been a lot of waiting and speculating. My profession (I'm a professor) would allow me to take a semester off to do the NIOBC (assuming the 5 months for that course fit into a May-December or January-August window). I won't be too upset if I end up having to do the Reserve version, but I'd like to take advantage of the opportunity to do it all at once if at all possible.
I've informed my bosses (dept. chair, dean, etc.) that there's a possibility that I'll need to take that leave of absence in Spring 2014, and they're fine with it, though of course they'd like to know for sure sooner rather than later. However, from what folks here are saying, it sounds like it's more likely to be Fall 2014, if it happens at all.
