COVID-19

Some of my teacher friends (and their friends as well based off the comments) are very opposed to schools reopening. They fear for their own safety; not necessarily the children, although they bring up the fact of children getting sick. But of course, they can’t seem to grasp that influenza and pneumonia kill FAR more kids than this so far. I get that some of them are high risk, but if they are afraid, they shouldn’t return to work until they feel comfortable doing so.

Since my wife worked in school and my neighbor is a teacher, several of my friends are teachers and several of my friends spouses are teachers so I have heard many thoughts from them.

Several have said that there are older teachers who are just retiring, and their reason are either COVID risk of going back to a teaching environment or the fact that the rules that the schools and teachers must follow in WA are unrealistic and they don't want more headaches. I know some younger teachers that are want to get back to teaching but are frustrated with the plans they have to abide by.

The feeling from several of my friends is that the State of WA has made the rules so restrictive they are trying to prevent schools from opening as normal, and their rules are a way to push the call on closing on the local districts vice the state.

No one's holding a gun to their head forcing them back to school in the fall. They are free to resign their positions at their discretion.

This is a “tweet” that about a study in North Carolina showing that roughly 17% of residents there have covid antibodies, meaning 17% of them have had covid already. You could’ve just read the tweet itself, but @ea6bflyr said that I have to provide context. This is context in case you were unable to read this “tweet” for yourself with your very own eyes.

Nicely done. While I know this was hard and it pains you, it actually helps those who aren't on the twit-sphere, or even care to click the link or have access (boat-net, NMCI, etc). Above is an example of what you could also do vice having to write a sentence about what you're posting.

As for the image that MOS posted, it's fine because no-one has to click a linky to see the content.

The webmaster messaged you back...the ball is in your court.

Either they show up and do their job, they quit and get replaced, or stop taking my money to pay them.
Because there's a bottomless well of teachers just waiting to be hired? Or if they quit then school doesn't happen which is bad for getting back to work because a lot of folks' employment depends on their kids being in school?

Bottomless well? No. But they are certainly replaceable. And yes we need schools open for people to go to work, so open schools.

They’ll make do with what they have, send specialists like librarians back into the classroom, and increase the student to teacher ratios. What happened at the end of the 2019-2020 school isn’t tenable.

This is a link to an article about this subject (of how poorly the virtual learning experiment worked) from the WSJ. You are probably able to clearly tell that from the headline, but @ea6bflyr will delete my post if I don’t include this disclaimer.

Thanks for the heads up.

I like writing the sentence now. I feel like it really adds a lot.

@SlickAg I thought we've moved past this? If you're still upset, say so; don't act like a 3-year old.

Otherwise, add content and/or context to your post and move along. It's not that hard. Really it's not.
