    Texas A&M or The Citadel??

Hey Killer, I have some fond memories of dorm 1 and 3 and the female contingent there! Not to mention the view from the back side of 5. But I was stuck over in dorm 10, nothing to see but Ross street. By the way, which outfit ya in?

    Texas A&M or The Citadel??

I just graduated from A&M last may. Left the corps at the end of my junior year, its a good program and a even better school to go to. I just had some personal issues outside of the corps and didn't want to mess with it anymore. Sucks...never did get my senior boots. :( Oh yeah, and you...

    Navy Pilot Program

I can vouch for the "85% are going helos" comment. I have friends at Pensacola who have told me that almost all the guys are going rotary wing. One got lucky I guess, he got E3's (similar to AWACs) and is heading to Oklahoma to train on those. just remember...needs of the service change.

    Knowing Cadence

Cadence is one thing...jodies (spelling?) are another. I did a few years in the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M we always ran to cadence and yelled jodies. I know that singing while running made it that much harder. But made you a better runner. Plus some are just down right dirty/not politically...

    word of advice

If you want to lessen your "bumps" on your road toward getting an OCS slot take my little bit of advice. If you have to deal directly with a NRD, just ask them for the forms that you need. Dont tell them stuff over the phone that will go on the forms. Even if they are asking in passing...

    fitness test levels

I know that there are different standards once you are in the Navy as far as times/numbers go for the fitness test. Does this hold true for OCS? Or is it level across the board? Also I live almost 7000 feet up, do they take that in account when I do my test here? I think I'm a bad runner here...

    choice question

I have always only put SNA down and nothing else. When I was in AFROTC getting categroized I did the same and the silly AF got mad, said I HAD to have three choices and they HAD to be different. Pilot....Nav....blank. They filled in the third one for me as Space/missile. I was pissed, since...

    Coast Guard Auxiliary

I could be mistaken but I'm fairly sure that since they are volunteers, you only need to be a licensed pilot. My old man is a 06 in the Coast Guard and when he was flying they did alot of work with the Aux. Mainly auxillary boat crews, but they do have pilots as well. I'm also fairly sure that...

    Troubles Running for the PFT

I started running last year after i hurt my knee playing club hockey at my college, I was around sea level which was nice, now I'm up at around 7,000. Its definetly harder to run distance here. My 5k time dropped from right around 21:00 to around 28:00. I was lucky just to finish! Anyways, I...

What Navy boys do with Air Force jets....

So this Naval Aviator stops buy today in an Air Force T-37. Just gas and go. He had a long leg comming up and wanted alot of gas, so he pushed down on the tail allowing me to throw not one, but two chocks under the nose gear. This placed the fuel openenings higher than the highest point of the...

    Two days....two F-18Fs!!!!

I just started at the FBO here in Colorado Springs. Figured it'd be a good "in the meantime" job while I'm waiting to reapply to OCS. Anyways, my second day on the line and a new F-18F comes rolling through from St. Louis. It was a VFA-122 jet, #120. The pilot is the chief test pilot for...

    Navy F-18 vs Luftwaffe Mig-29

Did ya'll know that a few years back the Air Force actually bought several Mig-29's from Monrovia (pretty sure on the country)? They said they were not going to use them for air to air combat testing....but then they show up on the Nellis flight line.....hhhhhmmmmm I'm looking for the article...

    Navy F-18 vs Luftwaffe Mig-29

Well Steve, ya let the cat out of the bag! That show is what I am referencing here. The VFA-106 guys did fairly well. But then so did the Luftwaffe boys. the 50/50 ratio was correct, and the reasons for this are somewhat interesting. When the Luft Mig-29s are held to Soviet style tactics, the...

What have I done? lol Great post I think, thanks for all the feedback. Just a quick story... My old man trained back in 78-79 at Pensacola, flew helos in the CG for about 20 years, head of testing at Pax River for the HH-60J. Outstanding pilot. Anyways, he said that while he was in primary...

    quality points?

Well I can't really say how they do it, or exactly what factors they use to weigh GPA's. Any recruiter types in here that can shed some light on this? Wink, you around???

    quality points?

Read that second paragraph again....I wasn't bashing music by any means. ;) I think the key words are.."I'd have no clue" which translates into, "woulda done bad." Anyways, the point is that they shouldn't really do that. Afterall how can you really do that when different things are harder for...

    Pro Req'd doesnt mean squat...if..

There's no slots open. Yeah so reading through my file here, I find out that I was pro req'd for SNA and didn't even know it nor was I informed. But no slots when I applied equals no slot. Not to bust any bubbles out there....just letting ya know. Oh yeah, new SNA/NFO requirement numbers are...

    NFO pro req

Just remember things change! I got pro-req'd for SNA last year. Still didn't get me a slot. Keep thinking total package and needs of the Navy. The new fiscal year is rolling around, and thus the new numbers are comming out soon. Keep that in mind too.

    Navy Reserves

    quality points?

So I'm looking at my OCS package folder (dont ask me how I got it :) ) and I have this page that says NRD **** GPA Computation Sheet. Hours attempted, Quality points earned, semester GPA. Now the GPA they have is different from mine...its acutally higher. So I'm assuming that this sheet is used...

    Navy vs Air Force

Its funny you metion Vance, thats where one of my pals was. The other was at Del Rio. Both remarked on the "nitpicking" of instructors on frivilous crap. On another note I talked to my old man about all this. He's a Coastie rotorhead so he did all Naval training, but he mentioned that the...

    Navy vs Air Force

Navy training vs Air Force training.... I just had two very close friends drop out of AF UPT. Both were halfway through T-37's and quit. No bad marks for either one. Both said how much they hated it and these guys LOVE flying. The first guy said that the Navy instructors doing the joint...

    T-45 flyover!

Flew back down to A&M for a two week vacation and to catch the season opener and was treated to a flyover by a fourship of T-45's. Acutally saw em come in friday afternoon, nice and tight diamond formation across the university, then flew the break over Easterwood. Much better show than the...

    Any recent acceptances?

I applied for Navy OCS. Anyways I guess it took soo long because of the holidays? I think that the more likely scenario is that the CWO submitting my package, didn't submit it when he said he did. Either way I still didn't get a slot nor would it have mattered. For me now its more of who I know...

    Take that Air Force!!!!!!!

My old man is a O6 in the CG, has his own Gold Wings, based out here and Peterson AFB, he "dipped into the blue" as my brother calls it and remarried to a AF O6. Ribbons & Medals

I went through the 4 week AFROTC camp with a former nuke sonarman. He is now the only AF officer that i can think of that gets to wear his "Dolphins" on his AF uni. Kinda cool if you ask me. he leaves the Navy for the AF, I leave the AF for the Navy......funny

I'm thinking about looking into the Marines as a possible path to my own "gold wings". Was just wondering what advice/reccomendations/info anyone could give me. I saw the posts about the Marines looking for pilots...are they not experiencing the full SNA slots like the Navy even though they...

    Cable snapping

When I was around 8, my brother and I would take this coffee table and tape string across one end like wires. We then taped paper clips to the back of our model airplanes like hooks, and straws on the top. Had about a 6 foot string running through that tied off to a chair on the other side of...

    another question

They go through all the same aviation training and wear the same wings. But while a Naval Aviator is a Naval Aviator....Marine Aviators are Marines first. They go through the same ground training as every Marine. Therefore they are very very closely tied in with ground units. Marine ground...
