NEWS General Aviation goodness - Light Sport Aircraft rules change coming

If you are happy with the DC's and they offer you adequate hearing protection, stick with them. However, if you find them uncomfortable after 30 minutes; need better hearing protection; or really want the bluetooth, you should upgrade. In my case, I have old Bose X's and love them...

From 1320 to 3600? That does not sound like the way the FAA moves. I hope you’re right.

Air Force increases pilot age limit

My Navy friends say that while the Navy has only recently begun to acknowledge an issue, the problem became serious some time back. Is that the consensus on this site? BTW, the AF's program to bring back retired aviators has about 90 people so far. I looked into it... but it was going to cost...

    Netflix recommendations?

“Mercury 13” is a Netflix-produced documentary. Anyone here that likes aviation and the space-race stories will like it. You can google it for a synopsis. I was quite surprised I was so unaware of this story.

Aviators/NFO here, why did you choose the Navy over the Air Force?

If this kid cannot figure out how to contact the Navy with the resources available to him, do you really want to spend the time holding his hand? Is this the quality of recruit you want?

The SHOW: Airlines still a "good gig"??

Concur, Wink. You did a most Excellent job. Please... move to the the head of the class. This reminded me of the military pilots I knew that could qualify for the ATP, but didn't make the time to go get it before the rule change made it significantly costlier in time and money. When the FAA...

The SHOW: Airlines still a "good gig"??

For those of you that qualify for this, don't wait on getting this added to your pilot certificate. Oh... you have wings, and you don't have an FAA pilot certificate?? You're an idiot. GET IT DONE.

    Interservice Transfer

If you want to fly as an officer, there are many threads on military aviation sites that would advise against going Army. I have no first hand knowledge, but the feeling seems to be prevalent.

    Hangar 24 AirFest - Havasu - 27 Oct 18

Second year happening at Lake Havasu Airport, AZ, and this year they are starting an International Beer Festival at the show. The ramp is filling up, but if anyone is interested in bringing in a display, let me know and I'll check with them to see if it is a possibility. If not, come there...

So to summarize: - "Flights themselves weren't bad." - Ontime departures - Early arrivals - You got a free upgrade to an exit row... and even got the window seat you asked for on the next, long flight. - You were offered free beer and wine, but turned it down. - Great movie selection. BTW...

Simply replace "clearance on request" with "ready to copy", and everyone will be happy. Did you know that the major airlines fly out of Hawaii? I call for clearance every time I'm in Kona, Lihue, Maui, and Hilo. I'll ops-check that tomorrow afternoon after I'm done paddle boarding.

The SHOW: Airlines still a "good gig"??

Nugget81, On the 8900.1 (June 2016) list of centerline thrust military jets, it is listed as: f) F-18 Northrop-McDonnell-Douglas Hornet. That's pretty vague. And being so vague, I am certain that many FSDO's will include the Growler as a "centerline thrust" jet. Is there a memo...

    Navy Sabreliner Flying

    Hangar 24 AirFest - Havasu: 27 Oct 2018

The first year went so well, they're going to do it again. They are looking for flyovers AND statics for the AirFest. The ramp is lip-crawling distance from the Hangar 24 Tap Room on the field. Drop me a note if interested. 8000' runway. Two FBO's on the field that take the gov't fuel card.

    USN Willy Wonka retention plan?

Why is it that... in the year 2018... they still think sending a message in all CAPS, and in a 1970's-style format is acceptable? Once again, that "innovation" idea just cannot take root. Painful.
  37. HuggyU2

    USN Willy Wonka retention plan?

One of the many problems with this that they only want this program to target those with less than 14 years of service. USERRA law handles up to ~5 years. Yes, there are caveats to this, but very few will want to risk things in this scenario. As someone who separated once, retired twice, and...

    POW Reunion, 40 years later

One of the most personally gratifying experiences I had in my military career was the 3 years ('94-'96) I was involved in the annual POW Reunion at the 560th FTS at Randolph AFB. The AF POW pilots were taken there in '73. Those that could were given a proper "Champagne Flight" in the T-38...
