Everyone IDC in my class was prior service. Also your degree does not dictate if you go to OCS or ODS designator does.

Or 8 hours of preflight for 1 hour of flight. In general if your concerned on what you want to fly and you haven't attended OCS...take a few steps back and understand you have awhile and different hurdles to overcome before ever attending flight school.
  16. M

    Final Select Purgatory

Making it through flight school and getting winged is more important that what you want to select. It all depends on what the Navy needs, your NSS and what you want (not everyone gets or even wants jets later in flight school).

Random questions about ocs and being an officer. Mustangs get ITT

You don't know until you apply, no one can answer that question. Though chances aren't as great as others with higher ASTB/GPA. Goal in mind should be to do everything to make your packet as strong as possible, leave it all on the field.

    sTUPID qUESTIONS aBOUT ocs

I believe ship selection is just the group of SWO's getting together with a list of available ships and they figure out who wants to go where. Never heard of it being based on class rank. Also class rank at OCS does not matter, once you commission everyone is an Ensign and has a fresh start. I...

Are you serious? Its after winging, you have so much in front of you that needs to be completed that SERE shouldn't even be on your mind.
  22. M

    27 April 2014

Agreed. Also its easy to memorize everything in your head, it's a different ball game when you are expected to be verbatim and ballistic with an RDC or Marine DI if your face making you do push-ups.
  23. M

1,001 questions about the ASTB (post your scores & ask your questions here!)

You turn 27 in 2 months? You still need to take the ASTB, finish your package and submit it. Then go to OCS and graduate before you turn 27. The guy I know had no prior service and turned 27 the day before graduation and was NPQ'd.

Minus the fact that he will need IFS and they use Jeppesen. Besides rumors are that they are changing the API course this summer so possibly new pubs before they even go to OCS.

    Motivational Statement MEGA Thread

You're telling them you want to be a Naval Officer. Most of this can be compressed into one paragraph. What are your experiences to back this up (academics, personal, athletics)? Everyone applying wants to be a Naval Officer but you have to give them reason to why you would make a good officer...

April 2014 SNA and NFO Board

The eye test at MEPS is nothing to the likes of a NAMI flight physical. MEPS is very basic. I believe when I had my eye exam it took a good 2 hours for them to do everything.
  36. M

April 2014 SNA and NFO Board

Vision is really the only difference between SNA and NFO. Usually other medical problems can get you DQ from a flying status period "no aviation".
  37. M

April 2014 SNA and NFO Board

Unless you are waiting on NAMI to clear you. Typically that doesn't happen until right before graduation. I had a buddy that had to stay in Newport for over a month waiting for NAMI. So if you graduate but are physically cleared yet you don't commission.

That and its is a fire hose of information in an extremely short about of time. API is 4 weeks of academics in 6 subjects. So you have 2 exams every week for 3 (no exams in the first week). OCS academics I didn't find super difficult rather you have classes, need to study but of course OCS adds...

Just for an FYI scores shouldn't be attained to just get picked up for SNA. They are pretty good predictors as I have a few friends that were selected with lower OAR/ASTB scores that struggled with the academics in OCS and even IFS. When I did took the ASTB, it was enough for me to "get picked...

Then you are going to have a tough time. Considering you are going to be wondering if you are PQ'd by NAMI and when you orders will come in as aviators don't get word till around graduation or even after graduation.

No you get orders to report to OCS. The FS is just more of a "Congrats blah, blah, blah".
  49. M

    Final Select Purgatory

    A FS is not orders.
  50. M

April 2014 SNA and NFO Board

Fingers crossed? Why? That has no affect on if you get selected and when you go to OCS. My contacts have not been contacted and neither have I and I got my clearance. Your BI just has to be opened. That happens when your recruiter submits your fingerprints and SF86.
