Anyone hear of this nifty thing on Airwarriors, it's called "Search". If not, it's worth checking out.....looks pretty shweeet for those interested in flying at all.

    Unauthorized passengers and stops

Heard a story once about a couple of dudes in multi-engine advanced, can't remember if P-3's or the E2/C2 pipeline. Apparently on their cross-country solo they depart out of Corpus, stop somewhere nearby (forgive me, not familiar with Corpus) and pick up their girlfriends. Just so happens an IP...

    Custom Watches

Seeing as how I just bought my new watch I've been wanting, I would have to go with the Omega since it's cheaper. Count me in for one though.

New Pensacola BOQ? Incoming single SNA's required to live there?

Not necessarily true. The guys going to Whiting all receive PCS orders, but they are apparently going to have to live in the Q. May be comparing apples to oranges with the SNA/SNFO deal, but just having PCS orders doesn't give you a trump card for living in the Q.

New Pensacola BOQ? Incoming single SNA's required to live there?

I believe being a better IFR pilot will make you a better VFR pilot....will really help your scan quite a bit. Even if you don't rock the house with grades in RI's, you'll still improve your flying skills.

FINALLY: DFAS changes leave carryover days

I read that as saying you will only be able to carry 75 days between Oct '08 and Dec '10. Doesn't seem like too great of a deal if it's only for a specific time.

    IFR Rating

Well, in my opinion, it's not late stage RI's that you'll make your money in, it's the BI and Form stages. If memory serves, late stage RI's are almost all 4's, so it's hard to make any real gains there, maybe one or two 5's tops, even if you have tons of instrument time. The BI flights are...

Training Warfighters - Messing with Pro-Boards

And, that was the point of pro-boards. You had two semesters worth of books on pro-knowledge, any question was fair game. That included the use of the weapons on a ship in a scenario, as that was a fair question on the pro-quizes each week. I can specifically remember being asked on mine how I...

    T-45 vs Bird HUD Video

The modulating start was a no-no as per 8's SOP, but never said anything about hand propping. Hot starts happened but weren't as common as they used to be. The SLAB did a good job on battery only starting if it had a decent charge, but as Murphy would have it, every time I was in the helo and...

    T-45 vs Bird HUD Video

Did it on the several solo cross country's I observed after I got my wings. No way in hell was I gonna overtemp at some random field and have to call base on that one. Even doing that, we still came close on one battery start. SLAB or not, it's easy to get that motor hot.

    Pipeline Cut

It's not the seat, it's the dimensions of the cockpit. I was anthroed out of anything with a tailhook on it because the T-45 is too small for my butt-knee length. However, same seat in a F-18 and I fit the anthros no problem, and by a big margin too. Doesn't even make a difference for the E2C2...

    F-16 pilot angers civilian pilot

I've honestly never thought about guys dying with IED's when someone tells me that, since, frankly, that's not what I do (different rate, different fate, etc). I just use a version of Phrog's, either "thanks for your support" or "i appreciate your support".

    Dinner dress for an 0-1?

Where'd you get your set? I'm looking and I know the NEX has 'em and I really don't feel like dropping $700 or so from Abbots.
  20. insanebikerboy

    Dinner dress for an 0-1?

The only reason I have it is because I had to buy it when I was at USNA. I think it's a cool looking uniform but in the three years since I've commissioned, I wore it once, and that was to a Navy ball. If you got the dough, buy it. I'm with MBates though, get yourself a sweet pair of AWG's...

    Pipeline Cut

Fight all you want brother, it won't help. Embrace what you got and realize that flying is a lot better than driving a ship. Lifestyle is different in every community but it's also a lot of what you make of it. Good luck.

    Which watch?

That's the big reason why I like this Fortis so much. All the whiz-bang stuff, slide rules, chrono, etc, just seem to much to me. Nothing like being able to just read the number and that's it.

Probably a big part of it there. I'm in agreement with Gator, there's just some stuff that I don't think has any bearing on how to fly the helicopter. Sure, if you wanna be Natops bingo winner everytime, learn how many microns the fuel filter is, etc, but when I see a #1 Fuel Filter Bypass...

The Monster COD thread (homage to the C-2A Greyhound)

I despise greyhound. First free weekend out of bootcamp, I take one from South Carolina to, ironically, Knoxville (close to where I grew up). Seeing as I hadn't been on liberty yet, I'm traveling in my whites. The trip was over a Friday night/Saturday morning, so it was actually fairly quiet...

    Pilot's gun discharges in flight

Love or hate the 9mm, I'd much rather have that if I have to ditch than just my knife, etc. And if I have ditched, lord knows I'm not gonna be "getting" myself into a firefight. I personally think it's retarded to not have your gun ready. Like wink said, it's pretty pointless to carry a...

    NROTC vs. Academy

Well, for what it's worth, USNA carries pretty much the same weight as those Ivy league schools you were referring to.
  40. insanebikerboy

    Licenses and Ratings

Well, at least you'd end up with a ton more hours than the average Joe outta flight school, basically all paid for. Plus, you'd be able to log the time in flight school as second in command and not as under instruction.

Law of War/Law of Armed Conflict Discussion

That's what I took away from the law classes I had. If it was just me and some dude trying to shoot me, it wouldn't matter how I killed him, as long as he was dead. Hell, I could drive a tank over him squishing him if I wanted to and that's what I felt was needed. The proportionality response...

opinions on memorizing reef points before showing up at USNA?

Got Reef Points mailed to you beforehand? Shit, that would've been nice. I just remember showing up the day of e-dog check-in expecting to get liberty before the real I-day started to be told, hit the rack, revillie is at 5 in the morning. :icon_rage

    Contact Lenses

Playing with fire there. If you're supposed to wear glasses, wear them. When I was in the ht's a stud was supposed to wear them, didn't, the IP saw him squinting and asked if he was supposed to wear glasses, which he was. Downed the flight, and i think he got in some serious sh!t because of it.

    concealed carry question

The fact that you're enlisted or officer in the military doesn't give you some special privilege to carry a firearm at all times. I have my concealed permit, and I had to apply the same as every other civilian. The only perk that I had for being in the Navy was the state of Florida recognized...

First OIF SPECWAR MOH to be awarded to SEAL

Not trying to take anything away from the SEAL, as that guy is a super badass for what he did, but man it would be nice to actually see some MOH's given out to someone who didn't die performing their actions. I think it's a shame there aren't more around nowadays.

    IFS Costs $751.25 to member

Yeah, I've had no cost orders before, I understood what he was getting at. My point is, I've never heard of someone being forced to go on a good deal flight or cross country, so they shouldn't expect any reimbursements. That's the whole "good deal" part of it. However, the times I've seen people...

    IFS Costs $751.25 to member

Yeah, I have, but I've also gotten reimbursed for rooms and expenses on them too.

    IFS Costs $751.25 to member

So, by that theory, no reimbursement for expenses occurred while on a cross country, airshow, etc, since, well, it's free for the flight and the training too?
  50. insanebikerboy

    IFS Costs $751.25 to member

I dunno why everyone is telling him to suck it up. I was lucky and had IFS only a few miles away when I was at the Academy. If I had been down in P-cola and had to drive so far, I would've been thinking the same thing. It not exactly like he's chosen to drive 60 miles plus to work on his own...
