Not necessarily true. The guys going to Whiting all receive PCS orders, but they are apparently going to have to live in the Q. May be comparing apples to oranges with the SNA/SNFO deal, but just having PCS orders doesn't give you a trump card for living in the Q.

I believe being a better IFR pilot will make you a better VFR pilot....will really help your scan quite a bit. Even if you don't rock the house with grades in RI's, you'll still improve your flying skills.

Did it on the several solo cross country's I observed after I got my wings. No way in hell was I gonna overtemp at some random field and have to call base on that one. Even doing that, we still came close on one battery start. SLAB or not, it's easy to get that motor hot.

Was that done officially at NAMI? If it was just a random flight surgeon, it probably won't count.

It's not the seat, it's the dimensions of the cockpit. I was anthroed out of anything with a tailhook on it because the T-45 is too small for my butt-knee length. However, same seat in a F-18 and I fit the anthros no problem, and by a big margin too. Doesn't even make a difference for the E2C2...

I've honestly never thought about guys dying with IED's when someone tells me that, since, frankly, that's not what I do (different rate, different fate, etc). I just use a version of Phrog's, either "thanks for your support" or "i appreciate your support".

Fight all you want brother, it won't help. Embrace what you got and realize that flying is a lot better than driving a ship. Lifestyle is different in every community but it's also a lot of what you make of it. Good luck.

That's the big reason why I like this Fortis so much. All the whiz-bang stuff, slide rules, chrono, etc, just seem to much to me. Nothing like being able to just read the number and that's it.

Well, for what it's worth, USNA carries pretty much the same weight as those Ivy league schools you were referring to.

Well, at least you'd end up with a ton more hours than the average Joe outta flight school, basically all paid for. Plus, you'd be able to log the time in flight school as second in command and not as under instruction.

The fact that you're enlisted or officer in the military doesn't give you some special privilege to carry a firearm at all times. I have my concealed permit, and I had to apply the same as every other civilian. The only perk that I had for being in the Navy was the state of Florida recognized...

Yeah, I have, but I've also gotten reimbursed for rooms and expenses on them too.

So, by that theory, no reimbursement for expenses occurred while on a cross country, airshow, etc, since, well, it's free for the flight and the training too?

I dunno why everyone is telling him to suck it up. I was lucky and had IFS only a few miles away when I was at the Academy. If I had been down in P-cola and had to drive so far, I would've been thinking the same thing. It not exactly like he's chosen to drive 60 miles plus to work on his own...
