Funny you mention that. There is now a push for the Navy guys here to complete ASAP... and the Marines are low low priority now. Go figure.

    Checking into TW-1

By we, I meant VT-7. Yeah, I was assigned to VT-7, then VT-9, then back to VT-7 by the time I actually started. Last I heard, there is no pool, maybe 2 weeks at most, which is awesome. I waited 6 months, yes 6 months, to start.

I don't think we get a solo certificate until we wing. I know I haven't received one and I've solo'd quite a few times by now.

If you end up in VT-7, the United States Navy patch on the flight suit is a no-no, CO Hates it. Buy the "We Train Hookers" patch ASAP. I think in VT-9 you can't wear that one until you solo. Is that still the case nittany?

    REQUEST: Good aviation/military books

This is a paste from an email I wrote, so please bear with me if anything is repeated: "Fly Boys" by James Bradley - True account about Naval Aviators who are shotdown and captured by the Japanese on the island of Chichi Jima during WWII. Not a fun book to read, pretty brutal. Very educational...

    Deployed MEU's getting M-4 Carbine?

That 300 fps may not seem like a big deal, but with M855 ammo, it IS. Out of the 14.5" M-4 barrel, that M855 ammo loses its fragmentation ability very quickly. Out of a 10.5" barrel, it's pitiful. All you ever wanted to know about 5.56x45mm and .223 Remington (yes, they are different)...

    [Gun-sort of] Chicago Mayor Daley

Those that are anti-gun refuse to accept that it is a person doing the action. The gun is a mere tool. Most gun laws aren't enforced, shit, most prison terms for any crime are barely enforced. Criminals in England are a protected species. It seems liek we're going that way here sometimes.

    [Gun-sort of] Chicago Mayor Daley

Not entirely true. There has been at least one case of a registered NFA firearm being used in a murder. A police officer used a NFA firearm to murder someone. Go figure, right? I think he was deemed mentally unstable as well (beyond the normal unstableness required to murder someone).

    [GUN] 357 or 45?

Most bullets will penetrate a car door. It's getting through the reinforcing members that's the hard part. A car door is nothing more than sheet metal. Car doors are NOT cover, they are concealment. As far as surviving being shot by certain cartridges, show me your reference. I also want to...

    [GUN] 357 or 45?

People treat it as a toy, because it's so "underpowered". No respect. That and it was a favorite for crime for a while due to low prices and easily deformed bullets.
  32. Fly Navy

    [GUN] 357 or 45?

"Knock down power" is a farse perpetuated by bad gun magazines. A full power 10mm is quite a cartridge, but good luck finding ammo for cheap. If you can't practice with it, you can't hit something with it, and if you can't hit something with it, it's useless. The fact of the matter is...

    [GUN] 357 or 45?

I have a SIG 9mm and a Springfield-Armory 1911. I can't comment to the 357sig cartridge. I have a .357 Magnum, which the 357sig tries to duplicate in an automatic cartridge. As far as what I've read and been told, the 357sig is excellent at barrier penetration and does fairly well at mimicking...

They're probably using good old CLP. You can buy it at your local Walmart or anywhere hunting/gun supplies are sold. Look for a black bottle, it'll say Breakfree CLP. CLP = cleaning / lubricating / preservating or something or other. I use it myself.

Not necessarily. Again, it depends on your pipeline and training delays. I know plenty that got wings in less than 2 years.
  45. Fly Navy

    Some questions about flight life

I wasn't taking into consideration "pools", as they are not training time. Just using the raw "expected" numbers (which we know never happen). That said, I don't know the E2/C2 numbers, what are they?

Total Ejections a Pilot can make?

The current NACES seat in the T-45 uses a gas charge to catapult you out of the aircraft and then the rocket fires. Pretty neat system. Supposed to be gentler on the body without sacrificing survivability. Or so we were told.
