    Quick question

Mmm kinda. I'd bet the Navy considers Chemistry just a science major. Chemical Engineering would be a tech major. Just semantics really. At my school, if you didn't have "engineering" in your major, you weren't a tech major.

    API vs Primary

API and Primary are almost incomparable in my mind. They're two different evolutions. API is there to make sure you can retain information at a fast pace. After API you can sort of brain-dump everything. Primary has academics, memorization, etc. but it's also a physical application of concept...

    3 wire OK why?

"Please don't kill me, please don't kill me, please don't kill me" What is that like, flying with a new nugget who may be a bit shaky?

    T-34 (and others) goof-ups

You know that whole slow down to 200 knots 5-6 miles before FAF and dirty up and get on-speed 3-5 miles before the FAF? The second I hear "supervised controller", I'm pushing the MAX distance for those numbers. Those guys can really give you a headache and sometimes try and kill you. Nothing...

    3 wire OK why?

I got used to IFLOLS, so when I come to one of the FLOLS runways here, it trips me up. It feels so inprecise after flying off IFLOLS.

Lot more going on there. There was massive metal fatigue on that aircraft if I remember right. Not your "normal" situation.

    F/A-18 for crowd control?

Asymetric warfare. They aren't stupid. They KNOW they can't go toe-to-toe with us. Why would they fight like a conventional army if they know they would get slaughtered? Work smarter, not harder. It's why they blow a hole in one of our destroyers. They don't have any other way to hit it. I know...

Air Marshals Kill Erratic Passenger in Miami

Sorry, but that's a load of crap. You can ALWAYS defeat something, ALWAYS. Working with computers and electronics for a lot of my educational life, I saw this time and time again. There are always ways to get around something. In the unlikely, but possible event that he had a bomb (hypothetical...

Air Marshals Kill Erratic Passenger in Miami

Can't answer the window one, don't know the construction. But yes, gunfire in the cabin of an aircraft would lead many at least temporarily deaf. Vicinity of an airport? Why? What are you scared of? You going to make an imaginary buffer zone around an airport? That's ludicrous.
  19. Fly Navy

Air Marshals Kill Erratic Passenger in Miami

I think that's a reference to putting a bullet hole in the aircraft? That's a fallacy. Pressurization systems can more than compensate for a bullet hole.

Air Marshals Kill Erratic Passenger in Miami

I agree. Shooting inside the cabin of an aircraft (read as: high high risk of friendlies getting hit) is hard enough for the experts.... joe-blow CCW would be more of a liability I think.
  28. Fly Navy

Air Marshals Kill Erratic Passenger in Miami

There are those that desire to see citizens allowed to CCW on airliners. The logic being that they would be a deterrent. Obviously there are some serious issues with this idea. What is your stance from a pilot's perspective?
  29. Fly Navy

Air Marshals Kill Erratic Passenger in Miami

I think they just had piss-poor writing on that comment. I think they were referring to the increase of Air Marshalls on domestic flights since 9/11. The Air Marshall program is obviously not new, just augmented since 9/11. Air Marshalls HAVE taken control of aircraft since 9/11 though.

25 kts in a 152? No thank you. I don't even like 15 knots in the T-45, but that's more due to the ground handling qualities of the jet (or lack thereof).

    Some questions about flight life

Welcome to the board! I'll try to answer the questions I can. This is extremely variable. The jet pipeline is the longest. The helo pipeline is the shortest. There are 6 weeks of API, 6 months of Primary, and Advanced varies depending on pipeline. Helos is 6 months of Advanced, and Jets is...

Ok, I goofed up my CEPs. The actuals are 115, 155, 137, 127, 130, 62.5, 75, 67.5. I was doing them from memory and my memory was wrong... oops. They were 30 degree/450 KTAS runs. I only dropped one bomb in the 10 degree pattern and that was a shack :) We drop 8 Mk 76's per hop (on the 75 and...

    Is the forum down?

CEPs were 115, 155, 127, 135, 62.5, 75, and 67.5 feet. My worst bomb was about 320 feet and my best was a bullseye. Those CEPs are all manual bombing. We don't do CCIP until the last two hops and those CEPs don't count (you drop 4 manual and 4 CCIP on those hops, CEP is based off the manual).

Scooters Forever (A-4 Skyhawk Tribute Thread)

The TA-4J is a advanced jet trainer, like the T-45C. It doesn't need those avionics and such. We don't need a radar, or encrypting radios, or whatever when you're just learning to fly a jet.
