The Great Universal Health Care Debate w/Poll (note: it just passed both houses)

It's a totally ridiculous concept to say that they should be "acting fast" on this. If the real intent was to reform the healthcare system, and not just grab power, it would be done in a series of smaller, close-to-independent steps, that could be looked at individually, and carefully. The...

LOL! That's perhaps the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard!! Please cue John McEnroe yelling "You can't be serious!!"

How is that not a bribe? Merriam-Webster: 1 : money or favor given or promised in order to influence the judgment or conduct of a person in a position of trust 2 : something that serves to induce or influence

Clux, Yes, people love it when politicians promise magical things. But when they find out that they are in fact, not magical, but will result in higher prices and lower quality, they tend to disapprove. And the fact that the Senate is trying to rush this through is the proof that the Senators...

I take it you are in favor of cutting way back on doctors' incomes, then. To make it fair, the government could pay for med school and malpractice insurance, and then just give the doctors a minimum wage. And significantly limiting malpractice suits, so that lawyers stop profiting off of...

The Great Universal Health Care Debate w/Poll (note: it just passed both houses)

The people who design the polls make a significant attempt to get an accurate cross-section of the populace. It varies from poll-to-poll if they are sampling likely voters or just adults (i.e. some segments of the populace are less likely to vote). That information is available. If you look...

The Great Universal Health Care Debate w/Poll (note: it just passed both houses)

The latest of every major poll (Quinnipiac, CNN, Rasmussen, ABC, NBC, AP, Gallup, Pew, FOX) shows a majority of people opposed to the bill. If you weren't already aware of that, you haven't been paying attention.

The Great Universal Health Care Debate w/Poll (note: it just passed both houses)

You're the one who drew the analogy between asking a janitor about a brain tumor and lay people opining about constitutionality. If a janitor can make an informed decision about whether or not someone is qualified to run the country, or whether or not they should live or die, then I think they...

The Great Universal Health Care Debate w/Poll (note: it just passed both houses)

Well, in elections we let those people decide who runs the country. And we let those people decide who lives or dies or goes to jail in trials.

Actually, they did. There were at least 3 proposals sponsored by Republicans or co-sponsored by Repubicans and Democrats.

So, do you like it? Flying in the military? What about living on a boat?

I don't think the Sen Lemieux Letter thread has one yet.

So, do you like it? Flying in the military? What about living on a boat?

Yeah. From what I understand, even after retiring, fighter and attack pilots still get together periodically for volleyball where they take their shirts off and oil up their torsos.

So, do you like it? Flying in the military? What about living on a boat?

Based on my experience, you get used to it pretty quickly - it's a pain-in-the-ass in some respects, but you also get extremely close to your roommates, and close to a lot of the other pilots in the squadron. (There is a possibility that you will not be able to choose who you room with...

U.S. Airlines Can Face Big Fines For Long Delays

Anybody still think the economy has turned the corner?

The big difference is that if corporations don't give the consumers what they want, the corporations go out of business. How many government programs ever get stopped because they are ineffective?

Girls with Guns, what's wrong with that?

I think Israeli women are the most attactive, as a group, that I have seen. (Based on a five day port visit.) Denmark is second.

Navy bids farewell to the venerable Sea King and Marines say "Thank you"

That happened at least three times that I remember. They tended to flip over once the rotor was shut down, but they would generally float for awhile. There was also a "horse collar" floatation device that could be attached by swimmers which would keep it floating quite a bit longer. Our...

The float bags were only in case of shutting down once you landed on the water. It could water taxi pretty well; I watched one once water taxi about 15 miles to the beach after having a single engine failure while in a hover. (I was in one of about 4 helos circling overhead in case there was...

If I have to choose between waste and more waste, and unfortunately I do have to choose, I will opt for waste. And hope that enough other people are smart enough to do the same.

No, but they generally don't grow as quickly.

Cdr Lassen was on the staff at Whiting (forget his position) when I went through the HTs; he would stop by the squadrons occasionally. Seemed like a really good guy.

Anybody still think the economy has turned the corner?

Whether or not the money is used for "public good" has nothing to do with it. It is the extent to which it is done, and how/who makes the decisions, and who/how determines what "public good" is. And Pres Obama is clearly trying to take the nation farther along that road.

On a somewhat related topic, if someone fails a swim test in Aviation Indoc (or whatever they call it now) or a PRT while in flight school, are they given extra time to get in shape and take a make-up?

    Pissed off farmers....

San Clemente Island used to be overrun with wild goats (supposedly the Spanish had left some on the island as a food source for sailors who might be shipwrecked.) They ate virtually all the vegetation. At some point in the 70's, the Navy killed them all, with (I was told) some of the hunting...

The downside of women serving alongside men in fighting ships, subs, squadrons, etc.

Nice spin. You conveniently ignore the fact that the issue is not "men and women working together having relations", the problem is men and women working together having relations AT WORK, and men and women working together having relations when it affects discipline (i.e. potential for sexual...

The downside of women serving alongside men in fighting ships, subs, squadrons, etc.

Because ultimately, moral failure, whether it is a lack of honesty or integrity, or not following fraternization regulations, leads to operational failures.
