    New Strategic Arm Reduction Treaty?

That's very simple. Because that wouldn't be believable, and thus would detract from the deterrence in areas where it would be more believable.

Controversial Apache attack that resulted in death of journalists released

They absolutely were legitimate targets, because they weren't identified as journalists at the time of the shooting.

Not to worry. We didn't take UN-imposed sanctions off the table.

Controversial Apache attack that resulted in death of journalists released

I'm assuming that technically they aren't considered combatants, but that their presence with enemy units would also eliminate any protections that they would normally have. Thus the protests being raised here are invalid.

The Great Universal Health Care Debate w/Poll (note: it just passed both houses)

I wouldn't characterize miitary medicine as efficient. Scaling that system up wouldn't work, because you couldn't get away with paying all the doctors what military doctors are paid. I strongly suspect (based on what I have seen on the statements) that what Tricare pays the civilian...

    Another Korea Border Clash?

It ought to be pretty easy to tell from the damage whether it was an internal or external explosion.
  12. E

    Another Korea Border Clash?

Common sense and history tells you that it is very likely that NK was involved. Whether it will have any effect on anything is hard to tell. It could be a symptom of underlying issues within North Korea, or an attempt to ratchet up the tension as a tactic to get added concessions.

The Great Universal Health Care Debate w/Poll (note: it just passed both houses)

That's from WIkipedia, but the same general figures are used in a variety of studies/reports.
  14. E

The Great Universal Health Care Debate w/Poll (note: it just passed both houses)

Of the 37 M, 8.5 M live in households with incomes 50-75K, 9.1 M in households 75K and above. So depending on where you draw the line on who can "afford" it, it's at least in the 10M range.
  15. E

The Great Universal Health Care Debate w/Poll (note: it just passed both houses)

Include that Social Security is now paying out more than it takes in. The government virtually never does anything more efficiently, because of the levels of bureaucracy between them and the issue being addressed. There are some things that need to be handled by government, but those should be...

The Great Universal Health Care Debate w/Poll (note: it just passed both houses)

Lots of people do it. It's a calculated risk, and if you are smart you should look at it from that perspective. That doesn't mean it's not smart to take the risk, or not smart to not take the risk. But the facts are that on the average you would benefit financially from not doing it. I haven't...
  17. E

The Great Universal Health Care Debate w/Poll (note: it just passed both houses)

People without health insurance, but who could afford it, still have to pay when they get medical services. You're confusing what is a "responsible" choice with what makes financial sense. Some people are willing to take that risk, some aren't. But the fact is that the odds are in your favor.
  18. E

The Great Universal Health Care Debate w/Poll (note: it just passed both houses)

The "defensive medicine" that results from the malpractice issue is where the majority of that cost comes from, not from malpractice costs themselves. And the estimates are that from 5-10 % of medical costs fall into that category. That is separate from the costs of malpractice insurance and the...

The Great Universal Health Care Debate w/Poll (note: it just passed both houses)

There have been a number of studies on that. A lot healthy people choose to accept the risk, will pay the out-of-pocket expenses when necessary, and spend the money elsewhere. "but to me there isn't any age range where it makes financial sense to not have health insurance" The fact that...
  20. E

The Great Universal Health Care Debate w/Poll (note: it just passed both houses)

Many of those 37M already pay their health care costs, because they can afford to, and are in the age range where it makes financial sense to NOT have insurance.
  21. E

The Great Universal Health Care Debate w/Poll (note: it just passed both houses)

Comments from Democratic politicians concerning subsequent (hoped for) actions. Steps taken in the bailouts that bring a much higher level of government involvement than previously.
  22. E

The Great Universal Health Care Debate w/Poll (note: it just passed both houses)

Include Congress in those who don't understand what's in the bill. Health care in this country is not "broken", yet amazingly this does nothing to address most of the areas that could be improved. Or not so amazingly, when you consider that improving health care wasn't the driving force behind...

The Great Universal Health Care Debate w/Poll (note: it just passed both houses)

If you allow competition, the market will compensate to meet the demand, with varying levels of quality and price available. Limit the competition, and you will get lower quality for a higher price. Guaranteed. Let the government provide for those who absolutely can't afford insurance, which is...

    CG CO relieved

I'm sure that she "talked a good game" and had good results that she could point to. As long as the inspections are going well there are some COs who look the other way. And when that happens often enough, in the right sequence, this is the result. Assuming that she displayed this type of...

    Sully retires ...

Agreed; I don't think anyone has criticized HIS decision, given the fact that their wasn't an established policy beforehand for that type of situation.
  34. E

    Sully retires ...

And that's why you don't make policy while "spinning out of control towards the drink" - because individual survival instincts aren't always the best basis for policy.
  35. E

    Sully retires ...

It seems to me it hinges on whether or not they were able to jettison/destroy all the crypto gear prior to landing. If not, they should have ditched. If so, landing was the right decision. And it would have been "worth the lives of the crew" to keep that type of gear from falling into Chinese hands.

    Silencing Rotor Blades

This is based on (now) 13 year old memories of flying the H-3, which wasn't exactly "state-of-the-art" at that time, and we didn't fo "full" autos in it, other than in the simulator. But from what I remember, when the conditions led to higher Nr, that could be traded for distance in the "glide"...
  41. E

    Silencing Rotor Blades

More Nr would give you a greater glide ratio, wouldn't it, which would affect the control inputs.

  44. E

    Silencing Rotor Blades

Do you lose anything if one of the main pumps fails, what systems does the electrical pump power, and does it go into effect automatically or does that need to be initiated by crew?
  45. E

    Silencing Rotor Blades

That's completely different than the H-3 gustlock. The H-3 gustlock was a metal "contraption" that the PCs would put on the tail rotor prior to folding the tail that would keep the tail rotor from rotating; it had nothing to do with the blade fold system.
  46. E

    Silencing Rotor Blades

Keeps the tail rotor from spinning due to the wind. That's an issue when the tail is folded, and the tail rotor is no longer linked to the main rotor. (i.e. with H-3s on board ship.)
  47. E

    Silencing Rotor Blades

    Yep - WHisper Mode!!
