You can always get LASIK. I used to have a -2.75 prescription in both eyes, went under the laser, came out seeing 20/15 and got picked up for SNA. So if distance vision is your only limiting factor don't write yourself off for pilot just yet.

On the OCS website it says you need to bring your medical and dental records when you check in. But wouldn't they already have your medical records from MEPS? So do you just need to bring your dental records and immunization forms or are there other medical records they want?

I just read a book called Feet Wet by RADM Paul Gillcrist (Ret.). Basically a memoir of his career, which started in the earliest stages of naval jet aviation, through his experiences in Vietnam, serving as CO of an F-8 squadron, CAG of CVW-3, and eventually commanding TOPGUN. Awesome book...

You should get a checkup at 6 months, and after you get this done you can forward all the documentation to MEPS, who will get back to you after they review it to schedule a physical.

If he meets the vision cutoffs for SNA (20/40 for distant vision is the big one) then no he does not need surgery. SNFO has no similar distant vision requirements. However if he does not meet that cutoff and wants to fly, then he will need to get LASIK or PRK.

The A-6 was retired in 1997, so during OEF/OIF tanking support was provided by S-3 Vikings.

Don't sweat it too much, the test will tell you what each knob is before you start the test, and when the emergency actually happens, it only takes a second to slightly twist the knob to make sure you're going the right way before committing. That's what I did and I scored fine.

ASTB-E is the newer version that was implemented in December 2013. The biggest change was adding the UAV and performance-based sections. That is the version everyone now takes, but it is still colloquially referred to as the ASTB.
