    sTUPID qUESTIONS aBOUT ocs

Prepare to get yelled at a lot (individually and as a class). Prepare to be put on your face and taken to the sand pits. The sooner you are able to filter out sources of stress the better off you will be. Learn to focus on the task at hand and not be distracted by all of the chaos going on...

Apparently yes. All SNAs from my class got 13 weeks of OHARP and the word is to expect another 2-3 month wait in A-pool. NFOs are going straight down to Pcola and pretty much starting immediately. Rooms are shared between 2 people with their own head and sink, and then two rooms share two...

    F-4 Phantom news

If it's anything like automobile systems they would inject the water into the intake air to cool it and increase the efficiency of the combustion cycle.

A Word on OCS (as of 2 DEC 16)

It depends on what your follow on orders are and where you're going. Since you're NFO, I would expect orders to report to Pcola the Wednesday or Thursday following graduation.

Unfortunately this I have no idea on, so I'll defer to any Priors on here. For the poppie suits, they are actually not that bad (unless you go through in the summer when it's blazing hot). Yes they get sweaty and gross, but just wash them every other night. They were brought back because people...

I think they still make you buy PT gear (it literally happens during the early stages of Day 1 so there's no time to check it), but you'll have extras which will be nice since you won't have to do laundry all of the time. They won't start issuing Type IIIs to new recruits until Oct 2017 per the...

A Word on OCS (as of 2 DEC 16)

Definitely bring them with you, at some point the first few days your RDCs will inspect all of the Priors' uniform items and if they're good to go they won't make you purchase them (the RDCs will be at the uniform shop with you when your class goes).

Actually with the buzz cut it was more like this for a while. Luckily the hair is coming back (slowly) :D

Don't know the exact number off hand but I count at least 1 redes to NFO and 5 who DOR'd or redesignated to something outside of aviation. Several are still in limbo awaiting a final go/no-go from NAMI. I wouldn't get too caught up in the flight physical, since there's literally nothing you can...

Yeah one of my buddies was DQ'd from tailhook (he anthro'd out of the T-45). I think you should be ok but you just may not get to fly something with a tailhook. It's going to happen, not a question of if but when. Right before I left our Class O's told us that they are likely already assigning...

You don't roll into H for problems with your flight physical, it's only for people who are too injured or sick to continue training, or who fail an event during the first three weeks and need to re-take it with the next class (IST,Fast Cruise, RLP). If something does pop on your flight physical...

I will defer to the Priors or ORs on here (@NavyOffRec care to chime in?) But I would say definitely bring your whole record. Even if you don't need all of it, it may save you time having to run down paperwork for past issues that need cleared or waviered. Worst case the flight surgeon relieves...

Demerits are still there, and the only way to work them off is with a 10 minute RPT session with a DI/RDC (10 minutes = 1 demerit served). They were just beginning the process of bringing back peer evals when I was a Candio so I don't have a lot of insight into how it works, but I believe it is...

    NEWS Fuck You United Airlines

After several horrible experiences trying to go PIT-SFO on UAL I've stopped flying with them. Sadly it's probably only a matter of time until the other airlines follow suit, although for people on AD this might not be the worst since I know at least AAL and DAL waive checked bag fees for the...

I'm not a prior so I'm not 100% sure. You need ribbons for everyday wear with your khakis, plus 8th week inspection and the pre-grad reception, and medals for 9th week PI plus Graduation. So maybe have a rack of ribbons for everyday wear and a second set in reserve for inspections, plus a set of...

    Degree type

Degree doesn't really matter for SNA, it's mostly about your ASTB scores and GPA (I was an Econ major FWIW). The caveat being STEM degrees will be better for TPS, and if you want to be an Astronaut you need some sort of engineering degree.

    Lost Medical Records

Might be worth a try to check now: I was able to access my flight physical while at OCS and watch as my waiver process went through to completion. https://vfso.rucker.amedd.army.mil/ (site seems to be down now, but if you go to that link and click "Access Flight Physicals" it should prompt you...

Nope, and in fact it is going the other way: you now start with two RDCs but then go down to one after RLP. Believe me having only one RDC and DI per class definitely does not make it any less tough lol.

I would definitely bring a week's supply of good boot socks (I got Fox Rivers) because the issued ones suck. I also brought good white athletic socks so I could save the issued ones for RLP. The only other thing I would suggest is bringing a Ninja Star, it's a big help getting your ribbons and...

We had something like 23 (out of 90ish) fail the first evolution of RLP, but only 4 people ended up failing it a second time and rolling. I personally think RLP (and a lot of evolutions at OCS) are over hyped, if you plan, start working early, and look at all your stuff with a critical eye...

    Another "praise the Raptor" article

From what I've read the whole idea of being able to easily re-start production isn't necessarily true, because a couple of years ago some techs needed to rebuild a part for a F-22 and when they went to the crates where the tooling and instructions were supposed to be it wasn't there.

I don't believe so, as far as I'm aware everyone goes through the same battery (I had LASIK). You get NPQ'd but as long as your paperwork is in order and nothing pops on the physical then you'll get a waiver from NAMI.
  32. Hopeful Hoya

Depends on what kind of issues you have. I was lucky and got my NAMI letter a week into Candio phase, even though I had been expecting a big wait. A number of my classmates got the whammy or are in student pool waiting for follow up appointments. Best thing you can do is have all of the...

Just graduated with 03-17. OCS sucked but in the end it was an extremely rewarding experience, especially because of the fantastic staff they have there. WHICH Brown Shoe?

Has anyone had any issues bringing in OTC moisturizing eye drops? I know the days leading up to the OCS eye exam aren't exactly easy on the eyes so my plan has been to over hydrate and use the drops a few times a day.

The Doctor is in! Ask a Flight Surgeon!

I have that as well, people have told me to let the HMs/Docs know and usually they'll let you chill out for a bit to de-stress and get your BP down before they take it. I know I certainty wasn't below 140/90 when I showed up to MEPS at 6am after a fitful night of sleep.

Just comes down to different manning requirements. The Navy is in dire need of pilots now since so many are making the jump to the Show. SWO is also overmanned as it is plus it is where many NAMI whammy/flight school attrites end up. OCS is supposed to make up for manning requirements not...
