Amen to that. I was supposed to be going IRR along with 2 other guys, with an August report date. I was making plans for the summer, then 2 days before commissioning, we got pulled aside and told that we were reporting 2 weeks after commissioning. I wouldn't count on anything being set in stone...

If you want to be really close to base, then live in countrywood, austinwood, or the marina condos, all of which are about a 2 minute drive from the back gate. I lived in countrywood, and thoroughly enjoyed the convenience of being an 8 minute drive from building 633. If I had to do it all over...

My roommate and I both did IFS at Trident, based out of Jack Edwards in Gulf Shores, AL. It's about a 30-40 minute drive from the back gate apartment complexes. All the instructors were solid and it was a great place to do IFS. I'm not sure what the wet rates are, but they had a decent selection...

MIDNJAC is correct. Those courses gave people alot of trouble and some guys made the decision to switch to Marine Option since the Marines didnt require those courses. Not sure if that's still the case

Beach club is not bad. Had a few friends live there and they were generally happy, except they did say it could be a bit pricey. Haven't heard any bad things about compass bay either. I would live on the island, just because that's where most of your buds will be.

If you end up going to the interview, tact is key with the Admiral. Just like Aquonox said, do your best and be humble in your reasoning. There were a few guys from my rotc unit that did exactly this at the interview which they were forced to go to, and the Admiral was nice enough to let them go...

2 in primary, but i was pretty lucky. most guys are getting one in primary nowadays, however I know one or two guys who didnt get one at all. advanced should have at least one. ymmv, as always

2nd the astb forum, lots of great resources i used. as for how much prep time, that really depends on you. focus on areas you might be weak on, and familiarize yourself with parts you already know something about. in short, what works for me might not work for you
