    Billets for Singles?

Let's put it this way, the bulk of USNA/ROTC/OCS grads are non-prior single guys (or gals). There simply aren't enough crappy billets to be doled out. I'm skeptical because it just doesn't make sense. I wouldn't put too much, no, make that any stock into it.

    Transfer Navy to USMC

Donker, For what it's worth, that 24 month rule isn't as strict as it seems. I've got a package in for this November's board, even though my 2 year mark is in december. The CEC Accessions O said it wasn't a big deal, and that ENS's have applied before. The tricky part is with your...

ok, I got a tough one here

This actually isn't unheard of. At my command, the officers can take the PRT on their own, then submit their scores. For starters, our PRT coordinator can't take the PRTwith everyone else if he's keeping track of scores and has to time the run. Our last PRT was scheduled for Friday morning...

    Transfer Navy to USMC

Donker, If you don't want to wait out your time in the Navy, why not just do a lat transfer to pilot/NFO? There's less red tape, plus you won't have to shell out for the Marine Unis. Was there a specific reason you wanted to go Marine Air?

Hopeful, Did you interview with the West Coast Accessions Officer? That probably carries some weight. Passing the EIT/FE is almost required as well.

That also includes the fact that BAS and BAH are untaxed, putting you in a lower tax bracket.

    Squadron locations?

E-2s are in Point Mugu, Prowlers are in Whidbey Island, WA. S-3s are in San Diego and Jax, but they're pretty much history. If you want, try doing a search for CVW-XX, because they'll probably have links to the squadrons in the airwing, and where they're located.

    Navy Turncoat

They should just stick him in the brig, and keep moving him to different ships so he's deployed year-round for the next 20 years. That should be fun.
  13. Thisguy

    what are the chances?

If you want to be a pilot, you shouldn't pass up a slot. I don't think the Navy would look to favorably about someone who turned down BDCP, then tried to apply later.

Otherwise known as the "dead man's float" It's pretty easy you just lie there face down, and come up for air when you need it. Repeat for 5 minutes.

    Flight Pay?

Sea pay is a little trickier for squadrons. You'll get it, but only when deployed on a carrier. RP, don't sweat losing the seapay, you're still gonna outearn all your butterbar classmates ;)

Pizza Stain (National Defence Service Medal)

You mean the Ronald McDonald "thanks for signing up" ribbon? We actually wore those at OCS on our summer whites before we were even commissioned. I would think you'll get one for being active duty.

    What is an LDO?

Okay, enlisted officer is the oxymoron. Look back at your post all star, you quoted "Prior Enlisted Officer". Nice job. LDOs don't need college degrees.
  20. Thisguy

    What is an LDO?

Hey not-even-a-middie, how is that an oxymoron? An Officer who came up through the enlisted ranks was prior enlisted. Of course, you're not even in the Navy yet. As for why someone would be a CWO vice an LDO, worry about graduating college first. pri·or1 adj. Preceding in time or...

    What is an LDO?

An LDO is a prior enlisted officer who was at a minimum an E-6 who was eligible for the Chief's exam. LDOs are commissioned to do a specialized job similar to their enlisted rate. Perfect example is an SK being an LDO in the supply corps. I don't know about the unrestricted lines, but in the...

    new to the forum

There's definitely more red tape if you try to submit an application as active duty vice civilian. I would hold out for OCS, but depending on how you're doing financially, that may or may not be an option. We have an E-6 in our command with a Masters, and he didn't get picked up for OCS...

Carrier life for AMDO (off hours)

Also, keep in mind that this is the airwing life. When the ship is scrambling to do GQ, we're sitting around in our staterooms *****ing that the movie channels say "Carl Vinson Rocks" alternating with "General Quarters" Another fun thing to do is to have "Roll 'ems" or showing a movie in the...

Carrier life for AMDO (off hours)

Personal laptops are OK as long as you don't bring them into workspaces (i.e. Ready Room), keep it in your stateroom and you're good to go. Each stateroom has a TV, so bringing a PS2/Xbox is a good idea, DVDs for when AFN craps out, and books come in handy as well. Also, it never hurts to...

    advancing and augmenting

2 years to LTJG 2 more years to LT, at the 4 year mark you can augment. Typically you go up for LCDR at the 10 year mark, this is the first promotion that isn't automatic. You'll probably learn this at OCS too, so worry about that first.

Not entirely true. There were only 2 spots left for two of us, because we were the last to get commissioned and attend the January AMO class. Of the other people in our OCS class, 3 graduated in 04-03 (we were 07-03), so they had 3 people with the choice from 5 orders. In fact, we originally...

    Lateral Transfer SWO to Nuclear/Sub

It's hard to say. I've been watching the redesignation messages closely, and I haven't seen anybody redesignate to Sub/Nuke yet. I would take another stab at Sub/Nuke if that's really what you want. Also, everyone who interviews has a spot reserved for them, it's theirs to lose. Ask your...

    How do women keep up???

Let's put it this way, they don't always keep up. We had a female drop out of a few formation runs, yet when all was said and done, she got a physical fitness badge, because outstanding medium for a female 20-24 is 11:15. For a guy, 20-24, it's 9:00.

Zero to SEAL. Enlisted vs. Officer?

Also, SEAL billets are limited through OCS. If you were able to get your SPECWAR pin on the enlisted side, then go through OCS, one, OCS would be a complete joke, and two, you've already finished BUD/S, so you wouldn't have to worry about washing out.
