    AP Course Credit?

Yeah. I was lucky that Penn State accepted a 4 or 5 on the AB calc. Some schools are "superior" and will only accept a 5.

    AP Course Credit?

I'm gonna say yes. I placed out of calc I, and it should show up on your transcript.

    training for the 1.5 run

A good conditioning drill to throw in the mix is to hop on a bike at the gym and warm up for 5 minutes, then sprint for 20 seconds, then pedal slow for 40 seconds and repeat for 10-15 reps. (with a 3-5 min cooldown) You don't lift the same way every day, so why do cardio the same way?

    College Football is back!

Not that surprised ND beat Michigan...they beat them down last year when they had a subpar season, and Michigan tends to play their best football in November when the conference title is on the line. Also, this is another example of preaseason rankings meaning absolutely nothing. I am...

    The "Age" thing

Max age for pilot is 30 w/prior service (provided that you have at least 4 years active) As long as you're commissioned before you hit the max age, you should be OK, unless somethings changed (we had a prior in our OCS class who was 30).

    NUPOC to Pilot?

Unfortunately, this would be a lot easier if you were a middie, because you could be in a squadron on a MDN cruise. The only thing I could think of is that if you had the initiative to get your backseat qual, and contact an S-3 squadron in JAX to give you a lift. However, the probability of...

    College Football is back!

Again...they beat Miami (OH) 34-14. That's Miami (OH) from the mighty MAC, not Miami (FL) from the ACC. The reason the defense couldn't keep up is inferior talent, plain and simple. We'll find out who's the contender and who's the pretender real fast this Saturday.

Makes me wonder if you actually watched the game. Ohio State dismantled the mighty Redhawks of Miami (OH). The Hurricanes played Florida State this past weekend. Unless of course you're still reliving the 2003 Fiesta Bowl.

    College Football is back!

In all fairness, this was a major upset because TCU was 5-6 last year losing 4 of 5 on the road (the lone victory was at Army...hooray). Plus, though they finished in the top 25 in those years you mentioned, they hadn't beaten a top ten team since 1961...which was coincidentally Texas. If...

    NUPOC to Pilot?

Endorsements are important. Your CO endorsement is required, but make sure it isn't half-assed. Put some serious thought into it (yes, you'll write it, and your CO will chop/sign off on it). Focus on what you'll bring to the table in the endorsement and the additional info portion of the...

    College Football is back!

They gotta play that game later in the year, esp. now that their conference rivals. The best rivalries are in November. The ACC however, likes to get that game "out of the way" because if you're gonna lose, lose early, so you'll still be in the running for a BCS at-large. Speaking of which...

    Commissioning Question

At OCS, you can arrange for someone to privately commission you before the group swear in. If you don't have anyone for a first salute, don't sweat it, you're gonna get it from your Class DI and Class Chief. In fact, you'll still get the salute from them even if you arrange for someone else to...

    NUPOC to Pilot?

I doubt the Navy is going to just let you extend time in Navy. In fact, if someone here knows you can switch prior to OCS, jump in now. I'll tell you why I don't think it's possible: If you get a pilot slot, you can think about it, and actually turn it down. When you go to the NUPOC...

    NUPOC to Pilot?

Unless you want to give back a bunch of money...pre-OCS is near impossible. You got a 10,000 bonus plus E-6 pay and allowances, they ain't letting you go. As for lat transfer, in the past 2 boards, 3 people were selected for pilot, fleet wide (that's each, for six total). All were warfare...

    Pilot deployments

    Question about BDCP

I would say no. Just because they'll pay up to 24 months, doesnn't mean everyone maxes that out. If your academic plan says you have one year left, then you'll graduate, and head off to OCS. Since you're graduating in May '06, the navy is expecting you at OCS around that time, as you've...

That's very good advice. Especially if you wait until you deploy and use Navy Autosource (provided you want an American car). There's not doubt you can compete for a scholarship once you get to college, but like I posted before, it's not going to hurt to apply for a scholarship right out of high school. I mean, would you rather have 4 years of tuition paid for, or just 2 or 3? College program is usually for guys...

    Am I acceptable for PLC

Doesn't look like you're eligible for PLC. That's 2 two-week sessions you do in college during the summers, or one 10 weeker after your Junior Year. Since it sounds like you're graduating in 2006, you'll probably be looking at OCC. Go to www.marineofficer.com to read about that.

    Nrotc

If you want ROTC, you may as well go for the scholarship. It's not need based aid.
  34. Thisguy

    Nrotc

If you're still in high school, you can apply for a 4-year scholarship and choose a school with an NROTC unit. If not, disregard. Pilot (or any slot) isn't guaranteed in ROTC. (Well, I think SWO slots are guaranteed ;))

    Small suitcase or duffelbag ?

After your first week, you'll have easy access. The less you bring, the better. I showed up with the civvies on my back and a gym back with white T-shirts, socks, underwear, toiletries etc. I was amazed at how much crap I had to pack up at the end of 13-weeks.

    Sea Duty

Sea duty does not mean that you are at sea for 24 months. That is just ridculous. It means that you are at a command that goes to sea, or if you prefer, deploys. Also, it's all about timing I'm finishing up a 30 month sea tour (shoulda been 36, but I got to roll early), and I've spent 15...

    PRK while active duty

20/500? Seriously, don't sweat it. That's why glasses and contacts exist. As long as you are correctable to 20/20 and have a refraction less than -8.00, you're in the clear. You don't need PRK to be eligible, and I would caution against getting that while so youg. Usually mid-20s after your...

Eddie: You can list NUPOC 2nd or 3rd. The thing is, if you screen for the interview, you can still turn it down. If you go, however, and are selected, right then and there, you just sold your soul to the nuke community. The reason it's separate, is because the Nuke community has to...

OCS type training for all Naval Officers?

Another thing to consider: The marines can do TBS the way they do, because they're the smallest service. Also, their officers are commissioned in a more predictable pattern: they only have a few OCS classes a year (plus ROTC/USNA), whereas Navy OCS pumps out 40-50 new officers every two weeks...

    some questions about bdcp

BDCP is just the program that pays you while you finish college. OCS is the commissioning source, so you can go from any accredited college whether you graduated two days ago, or two years ago. The catch to BDCP is that you better become an officer, because if you sign paperwork saying that if...
