For those of you working on an application or considering getting off your a$$ to call a recruiter, I am passing on these numbers. These numbers are current as of 12AUG05 for openings in FY06 OCS classes. This is nationwide ladies and gents!!

NFO about 30% full 38 slots left
Pilot nearly 50% full 42 slots left open
SWO 40% full 19 openings. Looking for a 3.6 gpa!!
SEAL just 7 slots left open for you prospective snake eaters
AMDO 40% full only 10 spots to fill.
Intel 65% of the jobs filled 17 left open for the year
Crypto 48% full 13 slots open
Supply Once again, big opportunities in Supply. 51% full, over 80 jobs left to fill for the 06 FY.
CEC 50% full 32 slots open

Just as an aside, the Navy has lots of opennings for most any medical field. You know nurses, docs, dentists, optometrists, or folks that are qualified to go to school for the same, have them talk to a recruiter.

The rest of you guys get off your butts and call a recruiter. If you have started the process then git er done. Those with a qualifying education should look real hard at CEC and Supply.

Good Luck

Do those slots apply to future 'wannabe' pilots in nrotc? My rotc package is going in sometime in sept/oct and just wondering if i would be competing for one of those 42 slots.

Read the post Midshipman. If you are planning on dropping out of NROTC and applying for a FY 06 OCS class then it applies to you.

I was told by CNRC in May that SWO was full and they didnt even bother looking at my package. Did they just open up for 06?

Concerning Interservice Transfers (Officers), there probably isn't a "quota" of sort. Do you have any information concerning where these "slots" are pulled from?

Do submariners only apply through NUPOC?

Yes. The navy takes care of these guys, you'll get E-6 pay and allowance before OCS even if you're not in college anymore.

So you have to know you want subs or nuclear surface over everything else, and can't fill out "a dream sheet" from among other communities? Granted nuclear power isn't for everyone, but why bother making it a whole seperate thing? Is it because people would put it 2nd/3rd choice and that would cause problems with the quality spread because everyone who goes Nuke has to be that good?

Eddie:

You can list NUPOC 2nd or 3rd. The thing is, if you screen for the interview, you can still turn it down. If you go, however, and are selected, right then and there, you just sold your soul to the nuke community.

The reason it's separate, is because the Nuke community has to throw money at people to get them to join. Normal BDCP is E-3 pay and allowances, with the opportunity to make E-4 for dean's list, etc. NUPOC is a $10,000 check, E-6 pay and allowances, plus the promise of an extra $2000 after the completion of prototype...plus, if you refer someone to the program and they get selected, you'll be upped to E-7.

For the record, NUPOC stands for Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate

Hope this helps?

That few?

NFO about 30% full 38 slots left = 54 total

Pilot nearly 50% full 42 slots left open = 84 total

= 138

That's it? A total of 138 NA/NFO slots for FY06? I didn't realize the Navy/Marine Corps was taking so few people for flying. Does this reflect far fewer cockpits or better retention or both?

Keep in mind that those numbers are just for OCS. There are ROTC and USNA guys who get SNA/SNFO slots as well.

And that ROTC and USNA make up the bulk of line officers. OCS is just used to take up the slack.

The NUPOC guys seem to be getting a great deal, yes. But there is a reason they throw all that money around. 18 hour stints in the engine room are no fun, no fun at all.
