    some questions about bdcp

They probably wouldn't accept you early, because they want to see what kind of grades your getting. You need to meet eligibility requirements to apply. Does Rutgers have career fairs? They'll probably have guys hangin' out there. Also, remember that BDCP is a bonus. If whatever reason you...

...or you could do the BDCP program and go to OCS after college and earn a commission that way. Going in as an E-3 after four years of college isn't that good a deal.

    Shoes to shine ??

Both. Depending on what uniform you're being inspected in, you'll either be wearing your white shoes and your black ones on display or vice versa. Keep an extra pair of running shoes to make your life easy. During inspection, your old shoes can go in your seabag that gets put in the hallway...

    Lateral Transfer Numbers?

I'd say go for it. What's the worst that could happen? I mean now that I think of it, SPECWAR has to have it's own board, because the semi-annual board is so dry. If you haven't seen one of those packages, it's just things like your latest fit-rep, college transcripts, and some basic...

    Lateral Transfer Numbers?

That's a good point. I think because I remember hearing guys go from URL to URL without going through the semi-annual redesignation board. The bulk of people on lat xfer boards are going URL to RL/SC. Granted, all the pilots and NFOs picked up this past board were SWOs, but there's gotta be...

    Roommate on ship ??

I'm in that S-3 squadron. 3 O-4s took a 4-man, for a little extra room, but beware this "good deal" because the ship knows that bunk is open, and you'll get a ship rider every now and then.

    Lateral Transfer Numbers?

I don't know how many people applied for pilot or nfo, but there were only 3 slots each navy-wide on the june 2005 board, so it's gonna be competitive. On a side note, all six selected in June 2005 were warfare-qualifed SWOs (1115). As for SpecWar, I haven't seen anbody get selected on the...

    Whats AMDO like?

If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't go AMDO, mainly because I'm not prior enlisted. I mean, I got to OCS as a 23 year-old, and people kept asking me if I was prior enlisted...I started thinking, should I be? I've since fixed the situation by getting picked up for lat transfer to the...

    Whats AMDO like?

In reply to the original post, I'm an AMDO, and uh, to be somewhat politically correct, I'm not a big fan. I'm not prior enlisted, so on a social level, most other AMDOs are older than me, and quite frankly, if it weren't for the aviator JOs in my squadron, I'd have gone insane by now. Alot of...

    Format of PRT

In order to rest in the up position, you must keep your body in a straight line. At OCS, you'll be done if you stick your butt in the air, or if your midsection sags. Doesn't even have to touch the ground, they'll stop you. Try doing some lower back exercises, that really helps. People...

    Format of PRT

I would think they hold your feet, because that's how it's done at OCS (and the fleet for that matter). My best advice is to practice the format, do situps, then pushups, then do the run. Get used to it, because your scores will obviously higher if you do everything separtately.
  15. Thisguy

    when should i start?

As far as I'm concerned, Navy OCS contracts are "guaranteed". I think the reason the Marines stress that, is because it's pretty much the only designator/MOS where you know you'll be an NFO/Pilot prior to TBS. Except for law, every one else is lumped in "ground" and their performance at TBS...

    Dream Sheets/ Requested Bases/ Etc.

To summarize...your choice of ship is based on what's available at the time your class selects...some classes get more of a choice (i.e. 06-03 had picked their ships, then our SWOs in 07-03 basically got what was remaining on that list). In other words, there isn't a list of orders for every...

    tanker and cargo life

Another thing S-3 guys like about it, is that you can fly on/fly off more aircrew than other squadrons (not as much anymore as we're down to six birds), and that thing is a X-country machine. Four seats and room for luggage.

    dental work

The big question I guess is how long a procedure like this takes. The dental checkup at OCS is sorta half-assed, but if they see a cracked molar, it may not NPQ you from flight, but honestly, it wouldn't shock me if they rolled you for that (I doubt they'd do the procedure the same day they...

    FYO5 Supply slots

Actually, we are currently in FY05. FY05 runs from Oct 04 to Sept 05. Those FY05 slots mean that those people will be commissioned between the above dates. So as you can see, there's plenty of FY05 left.

Competitive Profile For Supply Officer Programs

I've seen that before, so that's at least 2 years old. Needless to say, you're gonna have to do way better than a 2.2. I would even think that a 3.0 isn't going to be competitive these days.

    Leave Question

Right, if there's no day, then it means you have to check in by the end of the month. Obviously, if it's orders to a school, it's going to have a NET and NLT date on it. Orders to your command tend to be more flexible, and it's up to you how much leave you want to take.

    Leave Question

Yeah, you can go into the hole. However, depending on where your next port is, keep in mind that you'll have some "move days" which will not count as leave (though no "proceed" days, which blows), and that if you complete OCS without rolling, you'll have 7.5 days of leave in the books, so...

    OCS Bi-lateral transfer

I've never heard of anything like that. I would think if you want to go to the coast guard, you should apply to coast guard OCS. The reasoning is that you don't just apply for OCS, but you pick a specific designator. Once selected, you take up a slot, I don't think the Navy is going to hand...

    time at sea

navsup, you'll have to pick and choose your spots. Commands usually have two 2-week periods where they let people take leave around the holidays. Otherwise, you'll have to work vacations into your work schedule, not the other way around. For instance, we were at sea for 3 weeks this past...

    time at sea

the ship is your workplace, so yes, when it's inport you go on the ship. Duty means you sleep on the ship. Sweet dreams. 3 weeks off? Good luck with taking that much time off in a row even if the ship isn't at sea. If it is, it's highly unlikely your command will approve leave during an...

Switching BDCP communities prior to graduation

I doubt it. Accepting BDCP is sorta like getting into college early decision. Both are used to lock people in. If you swear into supply, they've already got you taking up a slot in FYXX. I wouldn't swear into one thing banking on a lat transfer either. Especially to sub/swo nuke(which to...

    Navy guarantee?

I think the reason the USMC guarantees flight contracts, is because they don't guarantee any ground contracts other than law. If you go ground, you won't know what you're doing until after TBS. With the Navy, you apply for a specific designator, and contigent on finishing the training, that's...

That won't work for SNA. If you don't have 20/40 uncorrected vision correctable to 20/20 at the time of application, you aren't qualified. That may work for NFO, but I'm not sure.
