    study tips for the interviews

Bedrock, That's a pretty good plan. Even though everything on your transcript will be fair game, I don't anticipate the interviewer asking you anything from a senior elective course or anything, but keep in mind the interviewer has your transcript in front of him. I would say study the...

    study tips for the interviews

People with non-technical majors at the interviews actually have somewhat of an advantage in my opinion. A poli sci major from the Academy can really only be asked physics and calc questions, and then maybe questions like "derive the formula of a circle" or "derive the spring constant." Not...

    study tips for the interviews

Here's the thing that's a little unfair about being an ME: You've got way more that you can be tested on, than say, a biology major. For starters, you're going to be interviewed by a mechanical engineer. Second, since you've already graduated, they can ask you anything on your transcript...

    Chow Hall Protocol at OCS

Poopies and Officer Candidates have the same procedures. You won't get to stop eating like that until you're a candidate officer. Oh yeah, practice eating fast before you go to OCS.

You can keep wearing it after you get winged on your khaki and dress uniforms as your secondary pin under your ribbons. Like you said, you worked for it, why not wear iit?

    Memorization

The OCS page is correct. I memorized the flip book all summer, which was better than not memorizing at all, but had to adjust a word here or there in my memory. That's huge, because you'll be expected to know the big 3 verbatim by week nine, no stuttering or corrections allowed.

Anyone else applying to UW-Madison and feel like they're pulling teeth?

Don't fret and be patient. I applied to Wisconsin back in 1997. Keep in mind, Wisconsin is a much bigger school than UW-milwaukee. Also, how long has Minn. had your app? It looks like Wisconsin has only had your application for about 2 or 3 weeks. Even though they're on rolling admissions...

    CEC Questions

The CEC tours are typically 2 years each. As a JO, you'll be expected to do a tour in each area, in no particular order, as well as a grad school tour (which incurs a 3 year extra obligation). As for combat training, that's probably taken care of after you report to your construction...

    What Happens After AMDO School?

Our class size was 16 I think. (6 Navy, 5 Marines, 5 Navair civilians). To answer your question about delay between commissioning and AMO school, it shouldn't be longer than 2 months. The community puts you in the appropriate OCS class, so that when you're commissioned, you will be in line...

    If denied BDCP then...

I would guess no, because you don't need that second degree to be an officer. The only program I know of that'll pay you as a college grad before OCS is NUPOC.

How long is the wait for active duty PRK?

Our squadron CCC just got it, though I don't know how long the wait is. He also had the choice between PRK and Lasik. So it is possible to get if you're not aircrew/SEAL/Bad Mo'fo

    Whats compeititive for BDCP?

We had some guys in my class who were prior on BDCP, but they weren't straight from the fleet. They were people who enlisted, got out, went to school, and decided to come back in. They went to an officer recruiter just like anyone else.
  20. Thisguy

    Average Age for Navy OCS

Well, the average won't tell you much, because the ages seem to be clustered. You'll have your BDCP and college grads who have their age clustered in the 21-23 age range, then you'll have your prior that are around 28-30 range, then the minority is probably civilians making a career change in...

Has college helped you in your flying/officer career?

Just a thought: You've also gotta be a little more proactive to make it through college. Most professors won't accept homework late, unless you have a valid excuse beforehand. In high school, you could usually get away with handing in something late and lose a letter grade instead of eating...

    Questions from a befuddled would-be.

Now that you can do. The requirements for NFO are correctable to 20/20 as long as your diopters are less than 8.00 (that's REALLY blind), so you'll be fine going for NFO with contacts/glasses, then get your self on the list at a later date.

    Questions from a befuddled would-be.

once you're selected for OCS, that spot is yours to lose. You don't go to OCS then figure out your designator. Is your vision 20/40 or better without glasses? If not, you won't be eligible for Pilot w/o PRK prior to applying. Hope this helps.

    Questions from a befuddled would-be.

I don't know what's up with that article, but I'm pretty sure you have to be 20/40 uncorrected for pilot. You can get PRK before you apply, but then you need to get a waiver, and PRK ain't cheap. To answer your question, they won't accept you with the contigency of getting PRK so your eyes...

    Thread of hope

The reason your recruiter was pushing sub, is because they always need people, as SWO nuke fills up alot faster than sub ever will, and SWO is the default designator for (physically qualifed) NROTC and USNA midshipmen. Do you want SWO because you'll be on the surface, see the sun everyday...
