why are ther eonly three choices to get into the navy through the bdcp?

keep in mind, with BDCP, you apply and are accepted for a particular designtor. You don't go into OCS not knowing what you'll do. Are you saying you want to be a SWO? If that's the case, you'll simply apply for it, and if accepted, that's what you'll do after OCS.

why are ther eonly three choices to get into the navy through the bdcp?

??? Not sure what you mean there. The downside to BDCP is that you're signing up to a binding agreement before you really know what you're getting into. ROTC you can leave after 1 year, w/no further obligation, USNA you can do that after 2 years. However, with BDCP if you want to DOR from...

why are ther eonly three choices to get into the navy through the bdcp?

I don't know where yoyu read that, but you can get BDCP for any designator, with the exception of those where you need an advanced degree (Jag, Medical, Dental, etc). Obviously NUPOC is BDCP on steroids, but the thinig about that program, is that you don't need to be in college to collect pay.

    Feb 11th 2006

Uh...just to let you guys know, you'll probably have more than one pilot (or should I say SNA) in your class. Also, if you've haven't heard final yet, chances are you aren't gonna get an OCS date only a month away. Only nukes get that because the Navy doesn't want to pay them E-6 pay and BAH...

what was your GPA when you applied?

Now is the time to pull up your GPA. You have what...15, 16 credits completed? Buckle down, you've still got some time before you can even apply for BDCP. Let's just say it'll suck if you still have a 2.5 at the end of your sophomore year, and you a 3.6 pulls you up to like, 2.7. If you...

Is a 50 on ASTB not competitive?

Yeah, keep in mind, the OAR is just one ingredient of the package. I'd say for the RL/SC communities, they pay more attention to your transcripts.

    Tax Question

Sounds like more (but quite frankly, I'm not sure). How many exemptions are you claiming? Single guys usually go with 0 or 1. I use 1, because I usually get a return under $1000 each year, which is fine, because I don't feel like giving the gov't an interest free loan. Some people like doing...

Just to piggyback on the subject, I'm in the market for a new laptop. I've been riding out my Dell 500 MHz Intel Pentium III since march 2000. However, I've heard that there's a new processing chip on the horizon that'll render Pentiums obsolete...any insight on this? If that's the case, I...

Anyone know anything about this "Annapolis" movie...

Both. It was also sent out in an email, but I deleted it due to NMCI telling me my mailbox was over the limit. My best guess they made a point about this is in case there's a screening where free admission is offered to service members in uniform. You know somebody's gonna take 'em up on that...

Anyone know anything about this "Annapolis" movie...

Yep comes out Jan 27th. Since the Navy didn't endorse it, Navy personnel are not supposed to go to screenings in uniforms (why you would anyway, is beyond me), and if you're asked any questions by the media, you need to direct all questions to your respective PAO offices, so the PAO can tell...

    Good Pranks?

On an extended WESTPAC in 2003 that ended up lasting 8 months, a JO concocted "JO Survivor" to entertain us on no-fly days. 1st duty station for new IW Officers

It couldn't hurt, but keep in mind, coming out of OCS, you're at the mercy of the needs of the Navy...unless IW school is a PCS, then that'll determine your initial orders. The reason I say this is because you typically start negotiating orders 9-12 months out (give or take). The window is a...

    College Football is back!

I know I'm strictly in the minority here, but I kinda like college football the way it is with the bowls. If you want playoff football, check out the NFL. Granted Auburn got totally screwed last year, but 3 undefeated teams is an abberation, that hardly ever happens. A playoff would be...

    Applying after graduation

I was a non-BDCP guy too, and that's the downside. The Navy can accept you but send you whenever they want because you're not on the payroll. I heard back in May of '02, but didn't go until Sept '02. However, I thought it was funny that a NUPOC who finished his interview in August was in the...

as much as you hate Auburn, I think they'll pound Wisconsin pretty good. Georgia should beat WVU pretty good too, given that it's a home game. Let's not forget the UGA's 2 losses are by 1 to Auburn, and 4 to Florida when they were without DJ Shockley...LSU found that out the hard way. Oh...

Anyone ever buy a car from ENCS?

Well, it all depends on the car. I got a quote for a 2006 mustang this past deployment at $1400 below MSRP...tried the dealers? They wanted 2K over the MSRP for at 2005 Mustang with the same options. So basically, not going Navy Autosource was going to cost me $3400.

    apartments in San Diego

Basically, it's 8 games out of the football season where you're gonna want to stay off of Friar's Road. Even then it's only busy about an hour before kickoff, and an hour after the games over...besides, at noon on a Sunday, you're probably sleeping one off anyway :)

I liked the Mission valley area. Check out www.equityapartments.com and plug in San Diego. I lived at La Mirage, great gym, pool, running trail, etc. It's a straight shot down the 15 to North Island, usually took me about 20-25 min in the morning (more traffic was going north)

How many people per class fail to graduate OCS?

Failing an evolution twice will cause you to roll. I.e. an academic exam or inspection. However, you get people who roll durig the in-PRT and can't class up until they pass an in-PRT with an incoming class. Or, if you're out of shape and get shin splints the 2nd week, you're rolled...

It's only for certain designators, such as doctors, dentists, and the like. They're usually commissioned at a rank that is comparable to their pay on the outside. I know a lot of CEC reservists are DCO as well.

what major did you take in college?

AEDO is a community that takes lat xfers from Pilot and NFO. Typically done a sea tour and at the O-4 level. Basically, it's a career move that takes you out of the cockpit and into the developmental side of things, kind of like EDO for the SWO and Sub guys.
