    Microsim Update Not Working

Your best move is to take all that motivation and get through the classes you have in your last semester. Enjoy college now. Neither Pcola or Corpus are as packed with nubile 18-23 yr olds. Your first night at Seville will be a wake up call.

    Looking for Preparation

Nothing taught in API is of a sensitive nature. I'd make sure to ask the instructor ahead of time, someone might have an issue with being taped, and doing it behind his back could result in unnecessasry pain. Everything taught is from the books anyway, you already have all the information.

    DLAB and DLPT

All or nothing... I don't know. What I do know is I had 4 enlisted Marines in my class and none of them scored anywhere near "perfect" on the DLAB. I don't think many people could score "perfect" since it's such a bizarre, f-ed up test. Again, I doubt you'd be able to take it without...

    DLAB and DLPT

I took both the DLAB (to get into DLI) and the DLPT (to graduate DLI). What do you want to know specifically? I have no idea if a "civilian" can take either. I doubt it. You pretty much have to have a reason (enlisting to go CTI for example) since it costs money and is pretty heavily...

    FITREP Code Words

Loooong time ago, I was in my cypher-locked (cipher?) office (no windows, but that lock was awesome) with my NFO counterpart and we spent a full day writing the ultimate "FITREP that says it all yet says nothing". Too bad I lost it. - Generally can be found in squadron spaces at some point...

    FITREP Code Words

    - LT XXX is a pretty good officer, considering. His presence in the Wardroom is undeniable. Dynamic, flexible, and enthusiastic are words that are too big for him to use. Specific accomplishments: - Hasn't crashed any airplanes. - No DUIs.

thepilot33, this is one of the best posts I've seen in years on this site. Good on ya for explaining the new process. Please keep us posted. Rep this man! I will take exception to this statement: If you're saying this is a good deal because you get the type rating, cool, I get it...

Eh...message from my buddy at PMRF this morning: (my question was, "are you guys still flying H-3s?") "Of course. HC-2 had the H-3 retirement ceremony last week, but PMRF is still flying them (I gave a guy a NATOPS check today if that gives you any idea of how long we are going to be...

What about the range birds at Pacific Missile Range in Hawaii? Maybe they don't count them as "operational" since it's not a squadron. edit: just shot an email to my buddy (H-3, C-26 type at PMRF). I'll have a def. answer soon.

This is more for Fleet guys. I guess it's "Gouge". If you've ever lost a hard copy of one of your FITREPs, you know what a pain it can be to find it. Go to: https://www.bol.navy.mil Log in, and othe next page there's an option to "Request Your Record on CD". Follow the instructions...

    Jets make you poo

Not a joke, I've seen it. A few months back I was on a det to Easter Island. We had a 5 hour flight on a Thursday. The Skipper let me out of it since I had never seen the sights and odds are i never will again. I spent the day bouncing around solo in a rented Jeep while the rest of the...

    Aircrewman information?

http://www.history.navy.mil/planes/c-20.html I'd say you need to go talk to your recruiter and find out exactly what you are trying to get into. I don't know how it works on the enlisted side, but VR-51 is extremely competitive for officers. I'd be suprised if they take brand new...

    Aircrewman information?

Spot on. All 3 VP squadron in K-Bay are AD. VP reserves are in the process of being disestablished anyway.
  30. zab1001

    For the rest of us

I think a better way to word the original question would be "What shore billets are available that are cool, but might not be seen as career enhancing?"
  31. zab1001

    Aircrewman information?

I don't know of any P-3 units in Hawaii that have AW reservists. There MAY be some reservist Aircrew types with the VR squadron. I'd wager most of them are prior active from the squadron itself and they slid over to the reserve side.
  32. zab1001

    For the rest of us

Do NOT be the guy walking around saying "I don't want to do 20, I don't care..." Even if you're a stellar performer, you'll be seen by the front office as a "waste of a good billet" and risk getting sent to a crap job in Stankistan or the Arctic Circle. Play the game, keep your cards...

Classic example of a thread degrading into a hot mess. Mattio, go talk to a recruiter. He's the only one with a definitive answer. If you have more questions after that talking with him, post them in a new thread. The rest of you, hash it out in PMs.

    EP-3 guys

Some may argue that without having to go to the boat for deployment workups, you get more time at home. I can't speak to that, but the retreads we had all said their time at home was roughly the same due to extended dets and exercises on homecycle. Now that VP is on the 12 month homecycle, 6...

    F-35 Upcoming Timeline

I guess I should have elaborated that my point was TPS isn't a requirement to get into a VX squadron. Regardless, heyjoe knows a lot more about this than I do. My sources are second hand. NRL (Naval Research Lab) is also working hand in hand with VX these days. Side note: VX is a...

    F-35 Upcoming Timeline

VX test programs are more along the lines of systems and boxes vice airframes, which is why the TPS thing isn't a player. You don't need to be a TPS grad to takeoff and play "on/off/stby" with the new GPS or whatever

    best place for name tags?

The poster offers us a good deal and quick turnaround on a highly sought after item for aviators. I, for one, am glad the post was made, I've already contacted them for an order for my squadron.
  43. zab1001

    best place for name tags?

As discussed before, wait until you get to the Fleet. (a) They may have specific colors for the nametag to match the squadron patch, (b) they may have some kind of deal for buying in bulk.

    Braces?

Scotty has it right as far as the training environment, issues with getting smacked in the lip. As far as "why can't I have them in a deployable billet" (thanks phrog), it's a 'maintenance' issue, and i don't mean airframes and power plants. I came pretty close to getting braces at the...

From the other side: I've always been a "social" smoker, meaning I'd have a few on Friday night while out at the bar. Here in South America, the majority of people smoke, A LOT. As a result, I've been smoking A LOT more. It doesn't help that we can smoke in our offices and pretty much...

    The layman's Lehman thread

Ok, I'm confused, because I just re-checked and from what I've read, Lehman didn't start his flight training until 1974. The last US troops were withdrawn on March 29, 1973. From what I've read, Lehman had one hop as an observer in an A-6 in 1972, off the Saratoga. I'm about to go to bed...

Enlisted get a shot at a seat in the cockpit

Oh I agree. I think any claims that this is designed to "fill gaps" in wardrooms are smoke and mirrors. I know for a fact that my YG is overmanned for VP and something like 2/3 of us will not make DH (ie, not at the RAG, naga naga nagannaflyanymore, at least not with VP). Plenty of quall'ed...
