I dunno man, I was just sitting here pre-gaming with too much time to think... yes, there are limes

    Gotcha. Makes sense.

    E-6 Info

No no no no no...that ISN'T what I'm saying. If you have questions regarding the P-3 community post them! There's a ton of people here from all demographics who have experience in the field. What I am saying is, "What's wrong with P-3s" is way too broad a question to elicit any kind of...

Military Trial Question (any JAGs onboard?)

Come on man, you know what I was talking about. As soon as this turns into "they weren't supposed to salute indoors..." it gets the lock. but I do appreciate the Silky reference.

Military Trial Question (any JAGs onboard?)

Out of sheer boredom, I was watching "A Few Good Men" for the billionth time. Aside from Kevin bacon's ridiculous haircut (what is that, a whisk broom? terrible), I took notice of the jury members. It APPEARS they're all officers. Is this normal when the defendants are enlisted? Just...

    E-6 Info

    (A) Come up with some pointed questions and we'll try to answer them. But start a new thread so we don't turn a TACAMO Q and A into something else. (B) Never rely on one person for information on a community. No offense, but spouses are privy to maybe a third of what is really going on in...

what's the name of this plane?

I'd take R2 D2 over some of the people I've had to fly with...chicks probably dig him too.

    Aircrews

i believe the phrase is "ironical"
  17. zab1001

    Aircrews

P-3s do keep aircrews together as much as possible. We assign crew positions based on a number of factors (seniorirty, experience, personalities) and try to stick to them. We then send those crews on deployment. Train like you fight and all. However, mitigating circumstances (medical...

    Turbines question for E-2, C-2, P-3 guys...

if I knew what Spec fuel consumption was, i'd tell you. (all i know from is the T-56-14 and T-56-10)
  19. zab1001

Global War On Terrorism Service Medal.

Not so much "hall monitor" or "ribbon police", but I have seen XO's and DH's address guys not wearing awards they rated from deployments (Battle E, NUC, MUC, and one guy who couldn't be bothered to buy the "V" he rated) during AOMs.

    Aviation Pipeline

When you make a statement like that, people who aren't familiar with the program read it and assume you're describing a program without any prop training. What are they calling the prop syllabus for the tiltrotor guys?
  21. zab1001

Ginkoa Biloba or Ginseng to improve Color Vision and Depth Perception?

I guess the "quinine" is what can jack you up over time. The same place I read this also did a survey and found tonic based drinks were most popular among pilots. Who doesn't love a vodka tonic highball with a few limes? (I read this about 6 years ago, no idea where)
  22. zab1001

TWO ITEMS .... MMA in Mugu and carrier in Hawaii ???

I'm sure whatever the original number was, it will be less than that. Playing the highball game works when you know money is tight anyway. SOMETHING is going to replace the Orion. There's never been an intention for a plane for plane swap anyway, the difference in the airframes is huge and...

What is it like to be an NFO?

it still looks exactly the same. quick walk to the bar though.
  24. zab1001

What is it like to be an NFO?

lol, you got in before me, i was aiming the comment at gatordev, but come to think of it, our TSC in Hawaii had an S-3 on their command logo. TSC for us is a big locked up building that is very hard to get into where we brief and debrief missions. They have one at every P-3 site worldwide.
  25. zab1001

What is it like to be an NFO?

TSC = Tactical Support Center they were tough for us to work with as well. i had no idea you guys even dealt with them

speechless...is that the Army " i made it through Basic award" ?
  27. zab1001

Global War On Terrorism Service Medal.

and who in their right mind would pick the GWOTSM (the NAM is pretty heinous as well)
  28. zab1001

Global War On Terrorism Service Medal.

He's dead on. Eligibility for stuff like that is listed over on BUPERS. I'd wager the USMC does the same thing. (even for a medal lamer than National Defense...)
  29. zab1001

Global War On Terrorism Service Medal.

gator, I think you mean you're eligible for the GWOTSM, but not the GWOTEM (usually for areas designated for OEF/OIF).

  32. zab1001

TWO ITEMS .... MMA in Mugu and carrier in Hawaii ???

Source for those dates? There's no way to accurately estimate the pipeline timeframe right now. Too many variables. yeah, it would be bad. that's why Orions are going to be replaced with MMAs. There's a system in place for the transition.

How do I become a Foreign Affairs Officer???

Right now, the FAO program is being developed for the USN. Few details have been released other than it will be open to URL designators. from a search: http://www.airwarriors.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12273&highlight=foreign+area+officer I also talked with one of my former skippers...

    pilot appl and anthros

I knew two females "anthro'ed" (i dunno how to type it) out of pilot and went on to become FO's. They "said" it was specifically because they couldn't see over the glareshield. Second hand info, but I think it's valid. (I have a feeling Flash knew one of them in his previous life)

    Tipsy Gypsy Leather Patches

I'll expound a little. "Status" symbol? I dunno, maybe. Really, who gives a fvck what patches you have. Reminds me of something my old Skipper said in regards to a guy's ribbon rack. "You can basically read a guy's bio by checking his ribbons". Kind of the same thing with the...

    Tipsy Gypsy Leather Patches

I had mine sewn on. Everyone with leather patches that I've encountered did the same. Change squadrons...let's see, odds of going to another operational squadron after your Fleet tour are slim, you may go to a training command. As a salty IP with all those Fleet stories, are you gonna...

    The break

Shee-it, we break in the P-3 world (although I hear there's some limits now, I'm out of the US loop), and I have yet to hear a legit answer for why other than "airwork". I demo'd one to some foreign dudes and got a lot of blank stares...fun nonetheless. I like to freak people out.

For those who are voluntold or are going to volunteer for Vance AFB flight training!

Nah. It's more to ingrain the side-by-side, pilot copilot, CRM thing. That and the heavy emphasis on instruments, shooting approaches with emergencies/checklists/comms, yadda yadda. I have no idea what a single engine approach in a T-1 feels like, but I'd wager it's pretty different from...

Life In The Navy Rocks Even Harder Than The Commercial Implied

Side note: a subscription to the Onion is a great gift to yourself before deployment. The print version has more funny stuff, and it's nice to get mail. Of course, there will be times when the mail doesn't get to you for awhile, then BAM, 3 copies arrive, but hey, it's better than the Navy...
