    Car choice and moving

I am surprised that no-one has mentioned the simplest solution.....one of each. Both are paid off. I have had the Corvette for 17 years ( and spent a lot over the years) and a year tax free in Iraq helped pay of the Avalanche.

Creative route to becoming an officer special ops at the age of 31....Info PLZ

Here is the thread on that: http://www.airwarriors.com/forum/showthread.php?t=146577 One guy got the waiver, one didn't. Not great odds. Also, they were talking about a matter of months. OPS is talking about 3 years.

Creative route to becoming an officer special ops at the age of 31....Info PLZ

First of all, the only reference I would use from online is the official Navy Recruiting Command directives: http://www.cnrc.navy.mil/publications/directives.htm CNRCINST 1131.2D w/CH-1 is the Navy Officer Recruiting Manual. http://www.cnrc.navy.mil/publications/1131.2D.htm That...

    Contact lenses at ocs

You will have no time to deal with contacs, cleaning, etc. Easier just to wear the glasses for 14 weeks (or whatever it is now).

    Best flight ever.

Simple and easy one: - Sunny summer day at Whidbey - 6 "blue death" on the mighty Intruder - VR1350 A Entry to Boardman and VR1355 home. 1+30 flight time, 1+15 of it at 200 feet, 420+ knots.

My ID card and DD-214 for AOCS said AOC/E-5. Which explains why the lowest ranking drill instructors were SSgts (E-6).

Why does the Marine Corps have its own "Air Force"?

What is old is new. Back in 1993 (when we copied the flight schedule on mimeograph machines and CAS consisted on 9-lines and 6 minute hacks), the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN and CVW-11 was sent to hang out off the Mog (as in Mogadishu, Somali) after the Blackhawks were shot down in the Task Force...

    Retard Ring Knocker Uniform Question

Well, if you only have a 20 min attention span studying NATOPS is going to be very painful. Flight students need a little initiative, we don't spoon feed you in VT's or at the RAG. It took me exactly 3 minutes to check the chapters till I found awards and found the relevant section. The...

    Aircraft carrier on fire

 Seats are still in the jet and ladders are down. :banghead_ B/N jettisoned the canopy. Knocked a silversuit off the turtleback where he was trying to open the canopy manually (disconnect from hydraulic ram). Crew climbed out. B/N flew the next day, pilot day after.

Actually, the E and the F have the same mission. It is not ATA It is not ATG. It is the dreaded 2Q6, SUPT MISC N-CMBT REFUEL. On cruise, expect to fly about 40% tanker sorties. That was the average for every other tanker platform out there. Note both E and F can function...

Midway, Coral Sea, and remembering those who came before us ...

Sure that wasn't Harry Ferrier you are thinking of? He was our guest at the Battle of Midway dining-in that VAQ-129 had back in 1999 or 2000 when I was an instructor. That was an incredible night (on so many levels).

Why the frak are they sending a 1310 to fill what sounds like a SWO or chop billet? You are going to spend 6 months figuring out the job. Marine Jets: The Good, Bad, and Ugly.

It was floated around about 6 years ago under the TACAIR INTERGRATION PLAN. Word I heard was shift some of the Delta's to the reserves and make more active Charlie squadrons. Probably gone by the wayside since the Delta's are earning their pay in MNF-W. From 2003...

Marine Jets: The Good, Bad, and Ugly.

As another Navy carrier guy who did an amphib float, couple of other points. 1. Big Navy was talking about 1 Marine F/A-18 squadron per carrier air wing. Right now there are 3 if I remember correctly. That means, living life just like a Navy guy. 2. Harriers have no gas when they come back...

Big Ocean and little ships make finding "Mother" difficult sometimes

EMCON for real or for training? Even if it was EMCON for real, safety of flight would have meant getting on the radio and calling in the blind for the TACAN to be turned on. If it was EMCON for training, it should have never gotten that far. Shoes love to take the training games to the point...

Big Ocean and little ships make finding "Mother" difficult sometimes

Meat's failsafe method of finding a carrier. 1. Turn on radar. 2. Look for biggest storm/rain shower. 3. Carrier will be directly under it. Why do shoes always steer for the worst weather in the area when aircraft are airborne?

My Natops is smaller than your Natops...

This struck me as really funny since we have two TACAMO pilots in my TACRON squadron. My assitant Training Officer is an outstanding laidback guy, prior enlisted, STA-21, awaiting his DH screen. My Natops is smaller than your Natops...

Both??? When I was a RAG instructor, we had separate manuals for Block 82/89 and Block 89A aircraft. Had to know both since the RAG had all 3 variants. Around 2003, they came out with one 82/89/89A NATOPS. That was more useful. I assume ea6bflyr is refering to a separate ICAP III NATOPS...

    Helo Dunker

Did the helo dunker exactly once in 18 years, during AOCS. Whidbey never got one before I left in 2004 and all we had to do was one run (blindfolded) in the old Dilbert Dunker. Another reason to go Prowlers.
