Role of Navy in Iraq: IA

I voted yes because I have done my IA so all you suckers can do one as well.:D But seriously, the Navy has a lot of folks deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. And, we are doing missions that are Navy specific or that we have more people with the required skill set. Examples are SeaBees, Riverine...

Places to Live in Hampton Roads

I am heading to TACRON at Little Creek. Just closed on a 1500 sqft condo in Cypress Gardens (Weslyan and Diamond Springs Rd). Close to Little Creek and I can easily take follow on orders at NOB, Dam Neck, or Oceana. Built 2001. 3 bedroom, master bath w/ shower and garden tub, hardwood floors...

New Car For A New Officer?

Forget that Chrysler POS, here is a real muscle car: 2009 Camaro Convertible, 400 HP 6.0L LS2, 6 speed stick, 21" rims on the front, 22" rims on the back.:D LS motors love mods. Drop a Magnacharger on that bad boy and get an easy 600 HP.

Goober, I am done flying. 3x FOS for O-5. After a year IA in Al Asad with the Marines, I am on my way to TACRON to go play with more Marines.:D Retire 01 Aug 2010, not that I am counting or anything. Anyway, are you out at Chambers? I get to Little Creek in August. A beer meet may be...

    CAT III ILS mins

Bit of a threadjack here: One day at Whidbey, the fog rolled in. Due to a sister squadron aircraft taking a field arrestment, we had to hold overhead till it they cleared the runway. Just for some background info: Bingo to McChord AFB (primary divert) was 3.3. Bingo to Comox CAFB (secondary...

    2nd choice for service selection?

OK, no offense taken. Heck, my girlfriend is an ex-SH60 pilot and she calls me "self-loading baggage". As for NFO, remember, the communities vary a lot. E-2 and P-3 guys tend to back in the tube working systems. EA-6B and F/A-18F guys are more tactically involved crew members. We talk on...

New Car For A New Officer?

The military will move your stuff so don't worry about that. My daily driver for 8 years was a 1975 Corvette convertible. Save your $$$ and wait to buy a new car. Go on deployment, get mucho tax free $$$ and buy from the Exchange Overseas Buying Program and save even more.
  13. SteveG75

    2nd choice for service selection?

I agree. What these kids don't realize is that you are an officer first and aviator, NFO, SEAL, EOD, SWO, etc second. The challenge is in being a leader and taking care of your sailors, not in the technical skills to do your job.
  14. SteveG75

Why not NFO? Not good enough for you? We aren't second class citizens you know. :icon_rage

    F18 Superhornet or F16CJ

Having the best fighter doesn't count if you can't get to the fight. 4-1/2 acres of sovereign US territory floating 12 miles off the coast is a lot better than trying to negotiate fly-over rights for a bunch of fighters and tankers.

Best Cell Phone Coverage in Whidbey Island

To add to what Brett says, I had AT&T when I was on Whidbey and also lost the signal around Deception Pass. I don't think any company has good coverage in that area due to the steep hills and winding roads.

    Uniform Guide

I remember stopping by the El Centro NEX while on det and they had the khaki pith helmets for sale. We bought one and had the student SDO wear it. Made it real easy to identify who was watching the duty desk when everyone was in a bag and the SDO duty swapped 2-3 times daily.

Did an Intruder det to Masirah, Oman in 1995. We provided tanking quals and low level intercept for their Hawks. NFO retreads VS. SNAs

Just a little historical background for the OP. NFO retreads use to return to the community they came from. Then there was a certain F-14 RIO who went back to the Tomcat community. After shelling out of one jet on cruise, he killed himself, his RIO and three people on the ground in Memphis...

Good blog from the Sandbox.....Naval Aviator in Iraq

IA = Individual Augmentation. Basically send some sailor to the sandbox for a year to fill a billet. For example, my IA job is technically EW. I am a Prowler NFO. I have a Prowler pilot and a CTR1 working for me. My replacment is a SWO. We have FC's, OS's, CTT's, CTR's, LDO's, AEDO's, NFO's...

    Air Superiority in the Navy

Ah, but there is a difference between Air Superiority and Air Supremacy. From JP 1-02: Some people are using the definition of air supremacy for air superiority. Air Superiority is limited per the definition.
