Computer Good Enough For Flight Simulator?

My 5 y/o Pentium 3 1.8Ghz plays Falcon well... but MS Flight Simulator looks like it'd take a much more powerful machine. Maybe look for a demo and see how that treats you?

I only caught the final 15 minutes... my damn Masters of Political Thought class ran well over but what I saw was pretty well done. I also enjoyed the new series Dogfights which debuted last night.

    Microsoft Flight Simulator?

"I'd like to bust your butt but I can't. I got another problem here. I gotta send somebody from this squadron to Miramar." I fully believe that playing various flight sims over the year helped me score well on the ASTB, but going further than that and saying that they will help me become a...

    Just took ASTB...Competitive Package?

I think so. Your stats are very similar to mine. 8/8/8 67. PFT 285. GPA 3.1. My OSO said he didn't think I'd have any problem whatsoever getting selected. Just waiting to be released from the Army as I was previously in Army ROTC. Working on my Masters in the meantime.

    my buddy's astb score

I'm curious how the OAR portion is scored... I had just assumed that it was an equation involving the first three numbers. However I guess thats not the case because receieved a low score of 8/8/8 but a higher OAR of 67. Anyone care to shed some light on this?

    Pushups

How could I forget about them?! Though they along with DGs tended to be the girls who were more attractive in a "cute, wholesome girl next door" way than the "hot as hell, what I couldn't do with that" way that the ones I first mentioned were... I should be doing my grad work at FSU instead...

    Pushups

I do most of my exercises with dumbbells because for me they seem to give me a better workout as you have to constantly stabalize them, as opposed a a barbell. All my exercises are 4 sets, 12, 10, 8, 6 reps respectively. Flat, incline, decline dumbbell press, then cable flyes, followed by...

    Pushups

Like was mentioned earlier, max sets are key. And is that for 1 minute? Back in my Ranger Challenge days in Army ROTC I was doing 750 pushups/situps a night. Maxed out the pushups at 101 in 2 minutes. I started by doing 5 or 6 sets of 75 and then dropped off accordingly. Then I...

Why is it so hard to get an Officer Recruiter?

I had alot of problems getting a hold of a Navy recruiter as well... guess they didn't like my stats... :D The USMC didn't mind though!

    Which book to get?

Hammer from Above was decent. What I read of it at least. I started it a few days before fall semester began, unfortunately I don't have time for personal reading anymore. Its definitely not solely focused on 18s though.
  15. BarrettRC8

    Mistake???

I'm working on my Masters right now. I should have it finished right a few months after I turn 23. If I was told I could go to OCC tomorrow, I wouldn't think twice. You can always go back to school.

    Flight Simulator

I remember Jetfighter III being alot of fun back when I was in middle school. I seldom have time anymore, but the only I occasionally load up is Falcon 4.0. If you don't have a lot of time to devote to learning the game though, pick up something that doesn't require such an effort to be able...

Typical Miles Per Week to Max

I never run less than 4 miles unless I'm trying to gauge my improvement which is once a month or so. Its usually 5 or 7 mile runs, and occasionally 9-11 which take place about once a week. I don't have a problem maintaining a pace of 7:30 even on my 9 mile runs, its just getting down into the...

Typical Miles Per Week to Max

Its not about the points, ultimately I want to be able to max the run. And a 19:30 is half a minute closer to 18:00 than 20:00 is.

Typical Miles Per Week to Max

Did a 3 mile roadcourse today and came in at 20:00. Was a bit dissapointed, I was hoping to be at 19:30. Although for the past 3 months or so I've been eating 500 calories below maintenance in an attempt to lose a bit of extra weight. Maybe once I'm back up to or a bit above maintenance I'll...

    Field Meet Fun Time

What about a LandNav course? It'd probably be more beneficial. We had to do them every Saturday morning for the first 8 weeks of so of the fall semester for Ranger Challenge.
  24. BarrettRC8

Typical Miles Per Week to Max

I've definitely seen improvement by simply logging the miles. Though work kept me from putting in as many as I would have liked the last month, I'm routinely hitting 35 minutes as I pass the 5 mile mark on each of my runs that last 6, 7, 8, and 9 miles. Even on my 11 miler I kept the pace...

F-35B/C Lightning II (Joint Strike Fighter)

Granted, I have no experience. I was just saying what I thought... clearly you have more experience than I do, so what about the helmet makes it appear to make defensive BFM more difficult? I'm honestly asking and not attempting to be an ass. Is it the dimensions? Limited visibility...

F-35B/C Lightning II (Joint Strike Fighter)

I personally don't believe that helmet will interfere with ones vision much at all. If you look in varying directions, without moving your head, it appears that your vision would be limited no more by that helmet, than by the features on your face. Unless he was talking about the helmet being...

I've read an article on them before. I distinctly remember one of them saying they do everything possible to re-create what the actual Blue Angels do. Including training, which they do 4 hours... 5 days a week! The one guy who mentioned that said he was amazed that hes still married. Its a...

The plan I've been going with has speedwork on Tuesdays, ie several 400 sprints and jog another 400 in between each sprint. Tempo runs on Thursdays. Fast runs on Saturday of about 5 miles and long runs on Sunday (8+ miles). The other days are easy run days. What you're suggesting is focus...

Typical Miles Per Week to Max

To be honest I'm pretty dissapointed at my run time when it comes to the USMC PFT. Pullups (30+) and situps (130+) come natural, I've just never been a gifted runner. I took my first Marine Corps PFT and ran it in 20:47 around a track. I figure I'd knock at least 30 seconds off that had it...

    Spatial Apperception

Haha. But seriously, just work out a scheme. Figure out whether you're going out to sea or towards land first, then climbing/descending/maintaining second, and finally the bank-left or right and degree. Get to the point where you can do one question every 10 seconds and you'll be golden. I...
