Field Meet Fun Time

I head up the Semper Fi society at my school, which is a small school to begin with, so my guys give new meaning to "the few." I'm always looking for activities to keep them in shape, teach them or let them practice basic skills, and be fun enough that it might draw more kids in.
There's an Army ROTC unit at my school, and I've been thinking about proposing a big joint effort field meet, just take up a saturday sometime, and I'm hoping you've got some great ideas for events we could do.
Hopefully school funding's gonna cover some gear, but the cheaper the better. here's a few things I was thinking of:

-Tug o' war
-Pull up competition
-Rope climb competition
- Pugil Sticks (which would be the most fun and draw the biggest crowd, but i can see some kid busting his head or something)

I'm toying with the idea of having people sign up ahead to be on teams of maybe five, but making it spontaneous teams lets people just show up and sign up.

Hit me with the ideas, folks.

You could always do Rock-Em-Sock-Em Robots, or steal one of those rock climing towers from the Army.

Rock-em-sock-em-robots? just have guys punch each other? ...that could be cool.

looked around and found a few more with potential:

-dizzy izzy
- egg toss (maybe, watermelon toss?)
-dairy challenge ( 1 gallon, thirty minutes, a lifelong lesson)
-fear factor box - stick their head in a box of bugs or something. i've got two pet rats that might work well for this... not sure how applicable this would be, though...

No, and I'm glad (well I wouldn't mind playing them recreationally or something; only I am glad to have boxed). I've seen them played; they look like they could be a lot of fun, but I have boxed, and I don't know how pugil sticks can be better.

If you are a good boxer, I can imagine how you would like it better than pugil sticks. For average people at an event promoting the Marine Corps, pugil sticks will be more fun, and they will draw more of a crowd. People of all skill levels can have a good time beating the feces out of each other.

I'm an average boxer. My brother was an excellent boxer, with 7 or so golden gloves to boot (as well as one junior olympic national title). But I'm not nearly that good.

Anyway, if the damn sticks are that much fun, I'll have to see about doing them :icon_tong

What about a LandNav course? It'd probably be more beneficial. We had to do them every Saturday morning for the first 8 weeks of so of the fall semester for Ranger Challenge.
