Buying watch for Marines OCS and beyond

I'm a big fan of Luminox for a field watch. I received the following model as a Christmas present prior to reporting to TBS and its been great. I'll definitely get another should this one ever fail. Might be a bit overkill for OCS considering you won't get to use it much however.

They're pretty busy with the new guys checking in. Took me 15 minutes to make a simple purchase today.

Motorcycle - To Sell Or Not To Sell: I Need Some Advice

Keep it. There are few ways to better relax from a long day or week than going out for a ride. I picked up two recently.

Monster Marine OCS thread: stupid questions answered here!

Congratulations. And I'll echo what others have said. If you want to increase your muscle mass you'll need much more than 60g of protein each day. If I were you I'd aim for 30g/meal, assuming of course, that you're eating 6 times a day.

    Hearing Loss While Sick?

I had to take a hearing test today and while I was still within the requirements for a naval aviator, I was much closer to the limits than I had been previously. I was at first worried and ready to toss my iPod in the trash, but thought perhaps that the common cold/flu that I'm experiencing...

    Meal Regimen at OCS

I understand your concerns, but the bottom line is that you can suck it up for only 10 weeks. I lost a good bit of muscle and all my lifts dropped off substantially during OCS, but they were right back to where they were before after resuming a lifting regimen for 6-8 weeks after graduation...

    Aircraft Nose Art/Pin Up Girls

Does anyone have the link to that guy's work who painted the modern pin ups? I believe one was of a lady riding "Little Boy" as it was being dropped on Hiroshima, another was one of a lady with wings and a machine gun...? Is any of this striking a bell?

    Working out at OCS

I understand your concern. I'm a USMC OCC-196 grad and have spent the last two months getting back to my fitness level pre-OCS. Yes, my run time improved - a whole 20 seconds, but my strength levels dramatically fell off. In the big picture though, what is two months for a career? Not much in...

    Navy vs Air Force

Old bastard? Maybe thats something you'd say in the presence of your friends at school, but I'm not sure you've earned that privilege here. Air Force or not, a retired service member deserves respect and referring to someone as an "old bastard" certainly doesn't do that.

    Recent Air Contract Commissions

At OCC-196 graduation we were told it would be based upon PFT, thus the highest scores go with Bravo. Around 1400 03JAN08 I found out that it was based on check in time. You'll have the occasional working party in Mike, but there are so many LTs in Mike now that your name comes up like once...

    Recent Air Contract Commissions

They only took 50 air guys for Bravo a couple weeks ago. I'm hanging out in Mike... which actually is a pretty good deal. Wake up for 0630 formation. Released until final formation at 1600. Maybe get involved in a working party for a few hours one day each week. IFS is backed up so no...

    Armstrong Pullups

Do weighted pull-ups. When I was able to do 12 with a 45lb plate I could do 32 bodyweight pull-ups. Its all about additional resistance. And I'd disagree with most of the other posters, provided you have your diet tuned in properly, your workout regime is fine - even by adding the Armstrong...

    TBS Schedule (Late 2007 - 2008?)

Negative. They aren't letting any new Mike guys do IFS right now. Unfortunately I, based on gouge from OCS, reported in to TBS at about 1400 thinking that Bravo admittance would be based upon PT scores. I was pushed into Mike because I didn't report in before 0900. Nonetheless, I asked about...

No, I think they would have given us a class on that. That makes me wonder however, I'm currently paying back about $6,000 in Army ROTC scholarship money for breaking my contract IOT become a Marine. Now that I'm active duty, I don't see why its necessary for me to continue paying that since...

After lights? I can count on one hand how many nights I had to get up after lights and they were all because of billet responsibilities, i.e., liaising with candidate Co staff and ensuring they knew what needed to be done IOT have the following day(s) run smoothly. I'd say save your money on...

    TBS Schedule (Late 2007 - 2008?)

They moved 196 from 11OCT to 22SEP and ended up either A) giving us leave and allowing us to go in the hole or B) giving everyone PTAD - Your choice. I assume they'll do something similar but you never know.

The 12 miler wasn't bad. It helped that we secured for a few hours of liberty afterwards for Thanksgiving. And yes, today was graduation and commissioning. Semper Fidelis. I'll see if I can't post a few pictures taken at the museum later.

The last main event, the 12 mile hump, down - 8 days to go. I fear Monday and Tuesday of next week will be a long one as we'll likely be rehearsing for graduation all day :sleep_125 Oh well, almost there. Happy Thanksgiving all.

    OCS Packing List

To those that have gone before us - are we provided with any documentation that details the specific responsibilities for each billet, or would it be wise to laminate some 3x5s with that information and put it in a notebook or some place for safe-keeping and quick reference?
