    NFO to Pilot

From what I hear it's next to rare to have that switch. I mean if the military paid millions to train you for one thing, what reason do they have to spend more money to train you for something else that you may or may not succeed at?

MOS Selection - Air to Ground

And here I am worrying about my color vision for the flight physical, with PRK. I think everytime somebody takes an air contract just to dump it for ground, the pool I'm in just gets smaller and smaller....<growl...>

HELP - Can't Do Situps Anymore

I do 5 sets of 30 (each set as fast as I can) with a minute rest in between each set. You can adjust the number in the set and the amount of rest you take according to your physical ability. This routine got me my hundred in two minutes without a prob.

    PLC-C Who's going this summer?

My OSO says running. if two candidates have a 285 PFT but one has a faster run than the other, they'll take the guy with the faster run.

hehe, you lucky PLC'ers able to get in with a 250 pft...hehe just some sour grapes, I may have to pull mine above that current 285 for OCC 186. Seriously though, good luck to all you guys this summer!

    Flight Physical... what to expect?

PRK was perfect, completely waiverable...I met all the regs. First thing we did that day was show up at 5AM, fill out paperwork get blood drawn, and give them a urine sample. After that our group went to dental where they took an X-ray of our mouth, took our blood pressure, then a dentist...

    Flight Physical... what to expect?

I failed the color vision test (took the FALANT test). They think that it may have been a case of nerves and the fact I was exhausted seeing how I was border line and got different ones wrong each time. So they want me to go again in february just for that part of the physical, well at least...

Why do the Marines want me?

hey..one of the guys that got selected for SNA in 185 had a GPA of 2.1...and a PT of 285, with a decent ASTB...he got selected...so I would just PT my butt off, but don't worry about stuff

    What did Your parents think?

They were a little apprehensive at first, but now they're totally supportive. However some old family friends of ours weren't so happy. When I told them what I was doing, they just nodded, looked me in the eye and told me "You know Glen, it's not too late to take the LSAT's." ME: "But I don't...

    PRK tommorrow

20/30 (that's the uncorrected limit for pilots) is just the number for you reading the chart...the -6.25 was his eye refraction..that is the number that really matters. It's how your eye bends the light as it comes into your eye (or something like that)I belive the worst your refraction can be...

I think it's just the fact that it's uncomfortable knowing that they're scraping away your eye. While it didn't hurt it did have an extremely slight stinging sensation. I guess weird would be the right word for it.

    When to get married

All we're saying is that if we aren't married for a bit of time, it can create strain on both the relationship and the attempt at a career as a military pilot. Going through it with a suportive partner that will be there no matter how thick it gets will without a doubt be a great boon to any...

    Marine Officer Essay

Hey here's a slightly paranoid question...maybe I'm just overthinking stuff. But on that essay where they want 100 hand-written words on why we want to be officers, do they care if we spill over a little? Or are they looking for our attention to detail and ability to follow orders to the...

    why are you an SNA?

ok seriously, I want to be an SNA (through the Marines) because the minute I sat down in the pilot's seat of a Piper I was hooked on aviation. Except I want to go faster. I also have had a growing drive to join the military for several years which was only fanned by the events of September...

    Troubles Running for the PFT

Hey, I ran a 20:44 today for my PFT...a nice improvement from last week's 22:02! The key thing for me was that there was somebody running with me that was just a little bit faster than me, and it gave me something visible to continue to push myself through out the three mile run. I don't know...

Yeah, that might have been me. The guy at NOMI was suprised at how I got his number. But it was right there on the NOMI website, there was a directory with all the numbers...I just figured if I found it that way it was public knowledge.

Eye surgery...should I get it and when?

yup, I've been told that PRK will be considered standard pretty soon anyway (year or two) since it's been going well. So if I don't make it in time to be selected now, it's really not a big deal.
  40. W

    Color blindness

yeah, but as long as you pass the Farnsworth you're good to go orthaj. I have brown eyes though :) and I thought color blindness was passed from the male side of the family.

What do you guys fly in IFS? I heard something about Katana's? (I think that's the name of the plane), or do you guys do it in Cessna's and Pipers? Oh, and do you get to choose where you want IFS then? I was under the inpression that they just asigned you.

    marine aviation eyesight...?

    Color blindness

All I know is that I fail the standard find the number in the dots test, but I can tell what red, green, white, blue, and yellow are at night (along with several other people), so I'm pretty sure I'm good to go. And actually I heard it's much more than 50% that fail that standard test.

    When to get married

NeoCortex speaks the truth, hehe. I want to be a pilot for the USMC more than anything in the world. It's hard to find somebody who is willing to accept that kind of a life I guess. I was seeing a girl for the past 1.5 years and we were getting pretty serious. But she wanted me to give up on...

    marine aviation eyesight...?

I'd be careful about being on the line....from what I've been hearing civilian docs seem to be a little more lenient on determining what 20/30 is as compared to military docs. And if you get NPQ'd on that flight physical, well....that'd really blow....
  47. W

    marine aviation eyesight...?

Guys, the limit is not based on your 20/whatever number, it's based on your refraction number. Basically, I believe that your pre-op number had to be better than +/-6.00. The NAMI sites have all the regs.

    PFT running distances

i hate running by time. It's a mental thing for me, my brain knows that 20 minutes is 20 minutes no matter how fast I go. it was easier for me to just assign a distance and do that distance, knowing that the faster I went the sooner it would be over. but I guess it's just because I absolutely...
