From what I hear it's next to rare to have that switch. I mean if the military paid millions to train you for one thing, what reason do they have to spend more money to train you for something else that you may or may not succeed at?

And here I am worrying about my color vision for the flight physical, with PRK. I think everytime somebody takes an air contract just to dump it for ground, the pool I'm in just gets smaller and smaller....<growl...>

I do 5 sets of 30 (each set as fast as I can) with a minute rest in between each set. You can adjust the number in the set and the amount of rest you take according to your physical ability. This routine got me my hundred in two minutes without a prob.

My OSO says running. if two candidates have a 285 PFT but one has a faster run than the other, they'll take the guy with the faster run.

I failed the color vision test (took the FALANT test). They think that it may have been a case of nerves and the fact I was exhausted seeing how I was border line and got different ones wrong each time. So they want me to go again in february just for that part of the physical, well at least...

I'd rest the day before..maybe jog a little to keep the legs loose...

hey..one of the guys that got selected for SNA in 185 had a GPA of 2.1...and a PT of 285, with a decent ASTB...he got selected...so I would just PT my butt off, but don't worry about stuff

I think it's just the fact that it's uncomfortable knowing that they're scraping away your eye. While it didn't hurt it did have an extremely slight stinging sensation. I guess weird would be the right word for it.

Yeah, that might have been me. The guy at NOMI was suprised at how I got his number. But it was right there on the NOMI website, there was a directory with all the numbers...I just figured if I found it that way it was public knowledge.

yup, I've been told that PRK will be considered standard pretty soon anyway (year or two) since it's been going well. So if I don't make it in time to be selected now, it's really not a big deal.

All I know is that I fail the standard find the number in the dots test, but I can tell what red, green, white, blue, and yellow are at night (along with several other people), so I'm pretty sure I'm good to go. And actually I heard it's much more than 50% that fail that standard test.

I'd be careful about being on the line....from what I've been hearing civilian docs seem to be a little more lenient on determining what 20/30 is as compared to military docs. And if you get NPQ'd on that flight physical, well....that'd really blow....

Guys, the limit is not based on your 20/whatever number, it's based on your refraction number. Basically, I believe that your pre-op number had to be better than +/-6.00. The NAMI sites have all the regs.

reapergm, my doctor is in Brooklyn, (surgury is performed in Manhattan though). the surgury with all the follow ups is 3,000. However your first follow up is the next day after the surgury so sombody's going to have to bring you in. if you're willing to make the trip he's a really good doctor...
