Eye surgery...should I get it and when?

Yeah, definately sounds like an NFO hunt. My OSO told me that getting a waiver for PRK would be no problem as long as there weren't complications (obviously). I wouldn't accept a slot as NFO if I really wanted pilot because of that very good chance that they would not switch you over, plus I'm...

    PFT running distances

Your school should have a quarter mile track somewhere in it's possesion. Run on that and time yourself. That way when you run off the track you can approximate both by time and by feel how far you've gone. Treadmills suck...every 3 miles on there is only worth one outside.

T-34 Patch for MICROSOFT FLT SIMULATOR

yeah, I don't need it to get to where i need to be, but I still like it all the same. The only thing I can figure is that they disabled it on purpose so flight students wouldn't be tempted to use it.

    Flight Medical

I also heard that there is a waiver for almost anything, you just have to know how to find it. I think it's true though, because if they only wanted perfect specimens there wouldn't be very many people in flight school.

PRK place in MD / DC / VA?

Hey, since I don't live in those areas I can't name a place, but I would advise having it done either by your regular eye doctor or somebody he/she strongly recommends (assuming that since you need PRK you have a regular eye doctor). It might be more expensive ( I paid 3K) but it is definately...

    Vision requirement for jets?

nah, I think it would just be easier for them to set one standard and eliminate everyone else, even though it might be true that one airframe wouldn't require the same visual skills.

    FLIGHT PHYSICAL DURING TBS

I heard from Bunk 22 and a few other ones that you can bomb the PIP, (get more than 2 wrong) but as long as you ace the FALANT you're good to go. That sounds believable since the PIP is designed to pick up any trace of color-weakness. And since something like 1 out of every 3 males has some...

It's all in the coolness factor. They look at how cool you look in a Harrier or a Hornet, if you look too geeky they send you to the Air Force.

    PRK Stats

I called Pensacola and they told me no, that LASEK wasn't acceptable (yes I spelled it out and everything). They're only doing straight up old-school PRK. I know it sucks because instead of saving your epithelium you've got to be in pain while it grows back. I expalined to them it was...

I paid $3000 for it, but it was worth it. I had it done by my regular eye doctor so he was easily acessible if I had any questions or if I needed to come in unscheduled at anytime.

    PRK Stats

I was -4.75 pre-op and 0 refraction (20/20)post op. Had PRK in August, have to wait until November for my waiver. My OSO says that the study is still on going (as does P'cola) but can end at any time before the end of this year.

    ATC Officer

I wouldn't give up on SNA. The whole reason for doing the study is to bring it back at a later date as a regular part of the application process. The first guys in this study should be already in the fleet and from what i've been hearing it's been going quite well. You're still in college so...

is the officer test hard and what is on it

I didn't think the ASTB was too bad, especially if you use the study guide on this site. It's almost identical to the actual test, all they did is change some numbers and stuff. Don't stress out about it but definately study.

    Laser eye surgery?

When I talked to a doctor in P'cola he told me that they would be starting a LASIK study soon. The thing is though that from what I've been hearing the PRK study has been going almost flawlessly and the guys who were in the study from the begining are already in the fleet. So I'm assuming that...

Anyone been selected as SNFO then changed to SNA

As far as I was told by Pensacola, they're still giving waivers for PRK. The OSO in manhattan told me it's been over for several months, but my Buffalo OSO said it's still going on but ending soon...I'm trusting my OSO and Pensacola.....

PRK tomorrow need some last minute answers!!!

By the way, here's the website I was looking at www.nomi.med.navy.mil/Nami/WaiverGuideTopics/ophthalmology.htm If you click on PRK update (sec 12.13) and scroll down to where it says WAIVERS in bold, you can see where I'm a little confused about LASEK.

Thanks for the replies guys. I managed to dig up some phone numbers from NOMI that belong to the guys that dish out the waivers, so I'll be calling them tomorrow morning before I go. If they say LASEK is waiverable (which the website isn't very clear on) then great, if not (or if I don't get...

I'm scheduled tomorrow for regular PRK. My doctor told me about another form of PRK called LASEK (not lasik) that they also call "enhanced PRK". The healing time is supposed to be better with almost no chance of scarring. What they do is move the epithelium of your eye to the side and then...
