    Living in Pensacola, FL

Definitely agree with being closer to Whiting than Pensacola. The furthest from Whiting I'd recommend is North Pcola, near Governor's Gate, 9 Mile, northern part of Scenic, etc...

Flying for Navy, Marines or Air Force?

Not gonna chew you out. I'll let others do that if they want to. I'm in a good mood. That being said, Marines are Marines. They tend to be pretty motivated. I almost went Marines before I decided I really didn't like running and doing the whole moto-thing all the time. Not that they do, but...

Losing an SNA Slot; what happens then?

In API I lost my spot, along with many others in a summer where they raised the NSS (grade requirement) to 43. That required us to average 96 or so to graduate. A lot of my friends lost their spots, most were allowed to go to redesignation boards. This was a special case, but many SNAs were...

    MH-60S with a M197 20mm cannon!

^^^ ... LOL I wouldn't touch that game with a ten-foot pole. As bad as it looks, it would impress me if the military could come up with a "training sim" that looks as "good" as that game...

Using the armstrong pull up program/ Should I start something else to change it up?

I used Armstrong. Within a few months I was maxing out at 17 or so. Got me from negatives (not the best upper body here), to 17, so I consider that a success.

    KPNS Name Change

LSO, that wasn't my point. I was referring to Santa Rosa County's illogical approach to generating revenue. It was sarcasm. Also, just adding to the comments above already... having fixed wing traffic at South Field just seems like it'll crowd the already hectic situation down there. I can't...

HOW TO BECOME A PILOT IN THE NAVY

Just get a college degree for OCS. And don't screw up with the law and so on. You'll pay for your college fun at OCS :)

    KPNS Name Change

I don't even know where to begin... ridiculous. If Santa Rosa needs more money, they can let us buy liquor on Sundays.

HOW TO BECOME A PILOT IN THE NAVY

Not true. I had 20/70 nearsightedness before I applied to OCS. Paid for laser surgery, a waiver, and am about to be winged. I had to wait 6 months after surgery and pay for it out of my own pocket. It was worth every penny.

    NAVY Initial Flight Screening (IFS)

Definitely tackle the gator closest to the boat. That being said, when IFS comes around, don't assume it'll be easy. Some people aren't used to the suddenly intense (albeit short-lived) workload that IFS makes you deal with. Depending on where you go for it, it could be more work than fun. It's...

    Enlisted Pilots Yay or Nay

The title of the thread was a bit misleading to me at first. Thought it was going to be about flying manned aircraft. Piloting UAVs isn't the same as being a pilot physically sitting in the aircraft. Anyway, it makes sense to allow some motivated and mature enlisted personnel to fly unmanned...

    Cats and Japan

The info I've read makes it sound like if you get all the requisite blood work and tests done in the right timeframe, then you can forego the long quarantine period. Has anyone heard if that's true? Technically it says you can work the quarantine down to a few days if you follow all the steps...

    Gulf Coast NHA Fleet Fly-In

Just wanted to post a thank you to all those who came down to Whiting for the NHA Fleet Fly-in this week. Advantages and Disadvantages of Different Aircraft

You're asking a very big question that takes a lot of time to answer. Most people have only flown in their communities, and may not have lots of experience flying or working with other communities. You should search the forums and see what people say about their aircraft and their experiences...

    Flight Hours Toward Pilot Slot

Navy takes a lot more people that have no prior time than the Air Force does. It's a difference of approach to training. Most (read, nearly all) flight students in the Navy have little-to-no flight time. It's not gonna hurt you. And many of my friends who have prior time don't seem to be doing...

    Marines vs. Air Force Dilemma

Look at the people. Yeah you may fly, fight, pt, whatever... for a good chunk of time. You may love flying or doing whichever job you get. Questions about naval aviation

I'm in the HTs (Helicopter Advanced) right now, just a stud a two months from winging. I'm also Navy, not Marine, but we train together up to getting winged. Take my words with a grain of salt, since I am only an unsalted stud. You will be an officer first, and an aviator second. You will be...

Seeking advice on that first handgun or next weapon purchase? Ask AW!

I plan on shooting a few times a month. I'm familiar with various pistols in a casual sense, having shot a variety here and there. If I buy one I definitely plan to go to the range at least every two weeks or so to get proficient. Good to hear the mag thing is a myth. Sometimes it's hard to tell...

Seeking advice on that first handgun or next weapon purchase? Ask AW!

Just some quick newbie advice. I'm thinking of buying a pistol for home defense. I want good stopping power primarily. It's not going to be for sport, although I'll be taking it to the range occasionally. I'm torn between Glock 23 or a version of the 1911. I also hear that having a revolver...

HT-28 is wear-testing some new flight suits. I'm not sure exactly which ones they are. The IPs I spoke with seem to like them. But I have no first-hand experience being a lowly stud.

More E's getting removed from Service

While this may be the case for the Navy, the Army's standards for recruitment still haven't changed all that much it seems. Instrument Rating Prior to Primary

On the older ones in Corpus the GPS was pre-programmed IIRC. There was a preloaded Flight Plan and data set from 2007 or something like that. You could only load up what they had for the I2505 GPS-sim. Remember trainer 13? The dead-zone was a good two inches from center and the trim changed...

    August 2011 Board

Just to add to the dogpile: 1. PRK is very much worth it. Even if you don't end up as a pilot or NFO. 2. I love flight school, personally. I wouldn't really want to press the reset button and do it again... but it's an experience of a lifetime. Anything worth doing is rarely going to be easy...

    August 2011 Board

Beware any gouge like this. The Pendulum that makes Big Navy want more pilots often swings very suddenly, and violently, in the opposite direction without warning. That being said, don't let everyone else's stats get ya. It's the "Whole Person Concept". What makes one person valuable or unique...

Bingo. It's about two-three weeks of ass-pain learning the stuff, then hopefully it'll click. Don't stress not knowing the material in advance. You'll learn it, we all have. NSS Going away in API?

Yeah don't sweat it. Sometimes, especially online, any expression of dislike of how things are typically are done get reactions like "get used to it" or "suck it up". But really we all know it sucks. It's not ideal, or easy, but that's how it is.

    NSS Going away in API?

I sympathize Smirnoff but we get used to it. I know it's normal for us that have done it a few times, and the fact remains, it does indeed suck. Just one of the many things that aren't ideal, but are a fact of life for us. You'll be moving often in the TRACOM. And yeah adding to what Synix...

Navy Working Uniform Now Authorized Off Base

You'd think it'd just be about the green flight suit (since tans are now also verboten CONUS). Who cares if the undershirt is a different color? They can tell we're military, and we're out in town doing our business like everyone else. Isn't that good PR?
