    Applying to Jan board 2013

Not addressed to me but when I was pro-rec'd it took about 3 months or so to get my FS. I know it sucks to wait, and sometimes recruiters aren't on top of their stuff. Just call them every week or so and see if they have any updates.

I am a recent SNA select... eye sight is 20/40 correctable to 20/15, but it may be getting worse.

I did PRK on my own dime. It was worth it. Should you? Depends on how your vision actually is and how badly you want to be the guy at the controls.

How much does prior flight training help?

Having not had any prior flight experience before Primary, my personal opinion is that it would not have been worth it to spend all that money I didn't have on private lessons of any kind. Video games were just fine. :D

    Et Tu, Petraeus?

For the general being known as a very athletic individual, his wife doesn't seem to share that interest. I don't care that he had an affair. I've always thought that's best left to people and their families to figure out. Obviously it hurts his image as a leader, but he's only human. He's...

What We Say And How We Say It

Plain language is the way to go in a professional forum. It's not the most interesting way to communicate but trying to joke around or being sarcastic on the internet (or many other settings really) backfires too often, especially around type-A personalities. When everyone wants to get their two...

    Turks and Syrians exchange rounds

I always felt that the invoking of Art 5 for the fight in Afghanistan was a stretch. Applying the treaty to non-government actors, while convenient, doesn't seem like part of the original intent. Then again, the whole reason for the creation of NATO is a thing of the past, a resurgent Russia...

NFO vs. Pilot vs. SWO for longterm career

I'm not going to repeat the good info above. Unrestricted Line is going to allow you to pursue a 20-year career, assuming you select LCDR around the 9-11 year mark. You probably won't get forced out if history is any indicator. Props to you for thinking ahead though. Good to know what you're...

    Uniforms

Going Army-style? Still better than aquaflage. Do Army aviators wear normal ACUs or are they "aviation" versions of the uniform? I was under the impression we were going to eventually move to either those new two-piece flight suits or the Drifire types they were displaying at NHA.

Don't say that. I for one am glad to have you and others who served before on this forum. History is important, as are traditions and knowing where we once were. Forgetting or ignoring history is probably one of the single-biggest mistakes societies can ever make. Plus, I like hearing those...

Medals Database being Considered by Pentagon

I think that's the point they might be finally trying to get... that we need a single database, with some level of public access if we're not going to prosecute people for lying about awards and achievements. I agree with the single-database idea in theory, not sure about the level of public access.

Hopefully not, but on BBC today there was an article stating the Turks were requesting a NATO meeting in response to the "Syrian situation". Scariest Day/Night Flying

If we descend too quickly without much airspeed, we get caught in our own rotor downwash. Increasing collective doesn't help, and can make it worse. Best way to get out of it is to lower the collective and lower the nose to get some airspeed back. Hopefully I didn't oversimplify too much there...
