I'm a little surprised that JJ Abrams isn't involved with this... sounds right up his alley. Let's just throw in some ancient artifacts and aliens on the island.

UCMJ Article 88 & Social Media

He heads a "political organization" in the form of the "Armed Forces Tea Party" on Facebook. That's political organizing, and a very visible example at that. Seems straightforward to me.

4 Bed/2 Bath Home in Norfolk. Pet Friendly, Historical Neighborhood. Will be available Summer/Fall.

I'll definitely be reconsidering if that's everyone's experience with renting. The buying agent who helped me find the place is where I'll start looking, but if anyone has recommendations for who to contact, I'd be more than willing to explore other options.

    OCS, chances and decisions

First thing, capitalize your "I"s and the first letters of your sentences. It doesn't sound like you're that much of a long shot. You sound very motivated, and that will go a long way. You need to really show your strengths in your application to make up for the lower GPA. How low are we...

    PRT at OCS

I heard about him when I was going through. Legends never die. Bamba had this special way of doing things though. Worst beatings I ever got. He took pleasure in it like none of the others. You didn't lose weight because you ate like a true Cuban. =D

    ROTC or OCS?

What can I say? The man got me. That experience made me not want to cut my hair or shave for years. And I didn't. I kinda looked like this guy, I didn't need rules man. That was for after college :D

    ROTC or OCS?

I had the chance to do ROTC but went OCS. I enjoyed having the complete freedom it gave me to do college the way I wanted to. I could grow my hair out, not shave, do whatever extracurriculars I wanted, not have to answer to anyone, fun times. I didn't work too hard and partied just as much as I...

Different Jobs with different gateways to becoming a pilot?

You can take the risk and try to go OCS with a guarantee (I use that term very loosely) for a pilot slot. Just don't enlist with the intention of going officer. It's a much longer road than you might think.

    International Burn a Qu'ran Day

If you're the leader of a country, sometimes you are going to make decisions that your people won't like, but are politically necessary. Many leaders see their own people as a hindrance to making intelligent decisions about foreign policy and warfighting. Democracy can be a real bitch if you're...

Can you shave your head at OCS?

Hey Synix, I think you just got called sir. *evilgrin* OCS doesn't seem that long ago! And thanks Yakboyslim. Makes me a little sad to hear it though. The Rose Garden is so awesome, it's worth bringing it to your p-way.

They don't make them fill their pockets and knowledge bags with the sand from the Rose Garden anymore? I still have sand in one of my old bags. And agreed on the Marines. I have tons of respect for my DI. As far as I'm concerned, one of the most upstanding guys I've ever known. I earned most...

Can you shave your head at OCS?

I went through from Oct 09-Feb 10. We were in the middle of a shift from the PT-style of OCS to a more academic-style. It was called the "Way Ahead" and the class I rolled into after RLP was the guinea pig class. Although I'm sure the PT isn't as rough as it was during the AOCS days, it could...

    International Burn a Qu'ran Day

If you're a big fan of Sun Tzu's style of boiling down complexity into simplicity, I'd also recommend Kautilya. He was a teacher of Chandragupta, the Indian emperor who unified the whole country in the 4th Century BC. He was a more blunt advocate of manipulation and realpolitik than even our...

Can you shave your head at OCS?

Special attention broke a few people in my classes. Sometimes it's just wrong-place, wrong-time. Sometimes they've got the laser pointed right at you. Getting Per Diem for time spent in API when arriving at Corpus

I don't remember getting per diem for being in API... Be careful. I got a big check for $2700 more than I was owed for my move to CC. I know people that got up to almost $7000 for that move. We all had to pay it back. Sometimes the pay-back process is handled well. We were able to set up a...

    International Burn a Qu'ran Day

"Culture" is way too broad of a term to use here. What one person sees as culture, another sees as stereotype. Someone who's lived in Milton, FL his whole life would view American culture as one thing, and may not even see someone from big-city New York as being part of his culture. Middle-class...

    OCS requirements question

We have just as many buttons! ... >_> And I didn't have many extracurriculars in college, or much volunteer work either. I did go to a military boarding school in high school and did reasonably well in college. Maybe that tipped it in my favor. I have no idea. Not to beat a dead horse, but...

    OCS requirements question

Dunno, but I wouldn't trade flying for just about any job out there. I can definitely see the appeal in being an NFO in some communities. Helos obviously don't have NFOs, so my knowledge on your designator is limited only to what I hear and read about. Though I think neither side can completely...

Naval Aviation Vision - as January 2012

Naval Aviation Vision - as January 2012

When discussing the Hellfire replacement, the JAGM, it only mentions giving it to the Romeo. Is the Sierra, with emphasis on the "Armed Helo" concept, going to the JAGM eventually as well?

PRK is acceptable for SNA status, correct?

There are countless threads on the forum about this topic. While I'm sure the commander is trying to be helpful, she has not stayed current with the progressing acceptance of laser eye surgery in military aviation. I had PRK pre-commissioning, as have many others. If you are outside the...

Can anybody tell me why I was disqualified for flight after getting PRK?

That's a real shame, but it makes sense. It'd be a hard decision to make, being in the OP's shoes. The NFO career path is very interesting. I almost went that way during the whole API shakedown of 2010 :D
  42. revan1013

Can anybody tell me why I was disqualified for flight after getting PRK?

On your last comment I would say that if you want to be a pilot, fight tooth and nail to get that SNA slot. You may go the rest of your career wondering what could've been. And you definitely do not want that. If you, in your heart of hearts, is ok with being an NFO (which is a pretty amazing...

-28 is awesome. I wish my squadron could be named after a drug-habit :D Funny thing is, I've got my wings and rank on them, but all the SDOs wear in HSC-2 are khakis. I believe it's an SOP thing, but I haven't broken that beast out yet. And grats on finishing up bud. Where you hoping to go?

Investing in shooting rounds quickly (MG thread)

Thanks for setting me straight. Investing in shooting rounds quickly (MG thread)

Gatordev, in FL there is a class-3 license (or something that sounds like that) that allows you to buy automatic weapons. I could ask my grandfather about it, if you'd like the info. He is NRA and a former pawn shop guy who had a lot of friends that liked to blow stuff up on their private...

Inside the White House before the Abbottabad Raid

True. A lot of the released documents about the Bay of Pigs shows the administration having last-minute cold feet. They were worried it was far too overt, too risky. But they went through with a half-assed operation and doomed it to failure. The 60s is rife with plenty of examples of...
