Time Lapse Build of a Super Hornet

I was quite surprised at the amount of hands on too. Anyone know what the total build time for one airframe is?

    Nukes for hamburger meat....

I don't pretend to understand all the politics that go on with this, but strategically if we drop our numbers won't we drop the lest "effective" nukes, making our average killing power higher? So in effect there are fewer nukes around the world, but only the best of the best nukes survive?

    My Recruiters, too!

I think he's disgracing the uniform, but I still have too much respect for what he's done to call him that. It's a shame that the Navy doesn't have a checkup program in place for recruiters though.

The PRK process from start to finish

I told him before he prescribed anything, so it was never an issue for me. You could call NAMI and find out what they want to see and have your doc do that. Do you mean you talked to the recruiting command and got it pushed through? Applicants stuff doesn't go to NAMI, only after OCS do they...

    My Recruiters, too!

It's nice seeing that some folks had a great experience with their recruiters. Mine's scraping the bottom of the barrel - downright rude when I call, with some gems like: "You'll never get selected for SNA, you should go NUPOC" "I'm retiring soon so this doesn't matter to me" "Well yeah, you...

The PRK process from start to finish

I told my doc about the no topical thing and he told me to just take the tears as needed... I didn't want to have the recruiting waiver folks turn me down and then need to reapply, as they are taking too long already to get back to people (finishing week 6 now that they've had my paperwork)

Stupid questions about Naval Aviation (Pt 2)

 No, shes just a regular civilian. Dunno. She came back all excited with a good story, pretty convincing pics and she doesn't know I'm going Navy, so I don't know why she'd lie.
  11. nugget61

    Can I do it?

If you get PRK, just make sure your eyes are stable - my surgeon won't operate on anyone less than 21, even if they've been stable for 10 years (whether that is a liability reason or med reason, I don't know). Had a friend get lasik before his eyes were stable and had to go in later to get a...

Blue Angel vs. Blue Devil (ZR-1)

How would that work for the non-hornet folks? I thought I read somewhere that part of the interview for the team was a demo of flight skills - do they just fly what they're trained in or do they have to do the full hornet school and demo in that airframe?

    BDCP: My gouge

I didn't know there was a time limit on how close you could be - is this for the Pro-Rec or FS? (I grad Aug1, hope to classup ~Oct/Nov timeframe and don't have a FS yet). Will I still get paid?

    Who can do anthro measurement?

That's your OR's responsibility to do himself. Its nothing official, just some prelim stuff that doesn't carry weight.
  17. nugget61

    sTUPID qUESTIONS aBOUT ocs

And a slightly related question - if you're on BDCP, will they keep paying you after you graduate till your classup? ie I graduate at the end of July, will they pay me till I get up there (say November)? Or does the money stop as soon as you get your degree?
  18. nugget61

    sTUPID qUESTIONS aBOUT ocs

Thats good to hear. And I remember seeing a 'just commissioned' thread in January (I think), so it would make sense. When did you get your FS? That date is pretty late... I was hoping to get in Oct. Anyone know what happens to the candidates during the stand-down time?
  19. nugget61

    sTUPID qUESTIONS aBOUT ocs

Whats the deal with the Christmas/Holiday stand-down? My OR is of the belief that they won't start a new class after the first few weeks of October so that there aren't any people in class during the holidays. Is this so? Hope not, that'd put me out till January for OCS then.

I'll let you know in the next week or two, waiting on the recruiting command to push the paperwork through.

Stupid questions about Naval Aviation (Pt 2)

Yes, sorry for that. She had no reason to be there other than a pure joy flight, shes not in the military. Dunno how she could have gotten the rules bent for her. Out of curiosity, do single control 2 seaters ever go up with just one person?

    PRK before application wait period?

I don't know your OR so I don't want to guess, however mine told me multiple flat out bold faced lies trying to get me to go NUPOC instead of SNA. I only had to have a copy of all the paperwork that they generated, including manifest numbers, cyclo numbers, pressure etc. NAMI told me they...

    PRK before application wait period?

Yeah, they tried to push me into nuke as well - if that's not where your heart is then don't let them push you around. I had to literally walk out of my recruiter's office because he was pushing it so hard and I was nearly yelling no at him. Once he realized this then he was more accommodating...

    vision requirement for SNA confirmed

Honestly, print the 1 or 2 pages from the waiver guide and have him check everything that he has the equipment for. If possible you want the regular (manifest) and dilated (cyclo) done for the near and distant measurements. And if you check depth/color, make sure its one of the approved...

Sorry, about the running Q I posted - say I ran a 12 min PRT and they put me in the slow group. Will they expect that group to run at a 8 min/mile pace for 3-4 miles or do they slow up the longer the run?
  28. nugget61

    sTUPID qUESTIONS aBOUT ocs

The longer the runs, do they slow the pace any? Or do they expect you to hold your PRT pace for 3+ miles? (I'm training at 2-3 miles a go now, dunno how far I should extend that to)
  29. nugget61

Please tell me I'm not crazy...

It sounds from your first posts that you have the idea that you're going to get BDCP money as soon as you can see 20/20 - you won't collect a check (or final select) till ~7 months after the surgery. Now if you're 20/40 each eye at MEPS, then this is all for naught, but it sounds like you know...

If you talk to a human on the site then they'll send you a copy for like $30.

    vision requirement for SNA confirmed

Well, there is a lot to say about getting the surgery too young. My surgeon went by a rule of 3 years with no prescription change, not age. Every place I talked to did a free eval - I'd schedule one, get all of your questions asked and ask them about financing. When they told me about it, I...

You need 40 seconds of arc circles or better (less than 40 is better). I think it was 6 or 7 of the lines ( not just 6 or 7 of the ten but rather the first 6 or 7... you can't miss a few in the middle and get the first and last ones to give you a good score, according to my ame )

I used the Peterson's book ( http://www.petersons.com/dod/Default.aspx?sponsor=12894 on the right ) it's free once you jump through their hurdles. vision requirement for SNA confirmed

As I was told, and if feddoc doesn't chime in soon I'd send him a PM, but those values are for each eye, not total (I'm assuming that's how you're looking at it and thinking you're not eligible for prk). You also didn't include your prescription power, which is the refraction. Seeing as how you...

    vision requirement for SNA confirmed

When I visited the doc, they daid I was 20/15 -1, therefore I read the 20/15 line with one incorrect. I would think that the + would mean you partially read the 20/30 line, but it's not safe to make any assumptions - ask the doc. What kind of waiver are you getting? There is no waiver for poor...

    Depth perception mega thread

Here's another one - took the Randot at my PRK doc's during my 6 month post op, got a note stating that I had 25 seconds of arc and went out the door. Now my OR is saying that it's unacceptable (conflict of interest) and that I have to pass the "navy" depth test, waiver guide be damned. Can one...

  46. nugget61

    sTUPID qUESTIONS aBOUT ocs

Bumping my Q - kinda worried since it took me about 20 minutes to read the Randot down to 25 arc seconds and that was under the best of circumstances, not OCS.

    Nugget61's PRK Process

Thats either the Randot or Stereo fly - I took both, and struggled with both, but managed to get to 25 seconds of arc with patience, so I'm sure I can do it again when I have to, given enough time.
