Thanks for the replies Otto and slim. Is it still accurate to expect them to start knocking on doors a week or so after the pro-rec? If so, that'd at least give me till late January and then I wouldn't tell my boss till then as opposed to right away.

The only thing I can add is that I was going through the Navy side of the house. Believe me, I was fighting hard for a 3 month waiver but the doc's refused it (and I met preop guidelines according to waiver guide). Good luck in getting one via Marines sooner
