    sTUPID qUESTIONS aBOUT ocs

I know I saw this asked recently, but I can't find it. I couldn't pass the MEPS depth test, but with enough time I passed the randot - can I ride through OCS on a doc's note and then take the randot again at NAMI? If not, hows that work?
  2. nugget61

    Bdcp - prk

Now that one I don't know - the doc used the term "pipeline" and seeing as how I don't even have my FS yet I knew I didn't qualify and let it go.
  3. nugget61

    Bdcp - prk

Thats if you have wings or are in the pipeline. They told me 6 months for all applicants regardless of pre-op measurements.
  4. nugget61

    Bdcp - prk

Thats exactly what the eye doc at nami told me  You'll have to get a waiver if you have PRK (even though your post op vision is OK) so its not an invisible surgery to them. If he told you no, I wouldn't get it done. If you are part of the <1% with problems and you've already FSed...

    Depth perception mega thread

So I'm worried again about my depth - I busted the MEPS test back in October (as well as distant VA) and had PRK done shortly thereafter to keep my sna slot. Well, I'm coming up on my 6 months post-op, so I can get a civilian doc to test my depth now and he pegged me at 50 arc second circles...

    The need for Speed

Ah that makes sense. Misleading of them, but makes sense. And WRT paint - thats why AA goes polished. Nice look, too. Is it allowed for someone to say what the max practical speed of the f14 & f4 are?
  12. nugget61

    The need for Speed

Maybe it belongs in the stupid questions thread, but how can Boeing state that the Hornet is capable of 1.8? Or is that attainable but just impractical?
  13. nugget61

Picked up as pilot, now worried about my eyes!

Talk to a local officer recruiter and make sure you meet other criteria - it would suck to get PRK done only to find out that you're color blind or too short or something. You can take the ASTB first and should (again, to make sure you meet mins) but also to let your OR know where you stand...

Can you take Army ROTC at a community college and transfer to a university NROTC?

It'll only cover your last 2 years, so the first 2 are up to you, but do some research into BDCP before you make your decision.

    April 09 Boards

You'll get your OCS date when you are ~1 year out from graduation, long before the slots fill up. Its said earlier, but to keep post-for-post, FY09 ends on Sept 30 - so if you graduate OCS on Oct 1, 2009 then you are in FY10. Should translate to a July 9 classup date to make class 01-10

Been there, done that. Despite the pay, it sucks more than you know. What fields does the Navy look highest upon for masters? Managerial?

    April 09 Boards

When I got picked up the boards met on a Wed and we found out the next Wed (however, that was when the 50 apps per board limit was in effect, so it may take them even longer if they have a lot of em to go through). GL to all of you.

    Time For Classes

You don't want to get an engineering degree. Just keep telling yourself that till it sets in.
  20. nugget61

    NROTC and PRK

You really only need to go to the surgeon's place for ~1 week (till the bandage contacts are removed). Beyond that they only do standard refraction/slit lamp/etc tests that he should be able to get done at school.

    My Situation: Eyesight issue

You can get a waiver (spherical) to obtain a waiver(prk)?
  22. nugget61

    Avoiding MEPS?

I don't have any idea how its done on the MC side of the house, but I can't even get a FS, much less attend OCS without being med up for regular physical activity, and MEPS said that until I get my PRK waiver I'll still be down from that. I don't know if this would be the same for me if I wasn't...
  23. nugget61

    Starbursting after PRK

Starbursts will keep you from getting the waiver, and as I was told, they will forever be in your med history, whether or not you still have them, and can permanently DQ you... I'd wait to go for the waiver till you heal enough so they're gone.
  24. nugget61

    Avoiding MEPS?

I have a similar situation, just navy not usmc. Even if you got around MEPS, I don't think that's the real issue - I talked to the PRK FS in Pcola and he told me that the 6 months is for the waiver for all applicants. Don't know how that'd be different for you, but I imagine that it's close.

    Farnsworth Lantern/FALANT Testing

The only thing I can say about this is that you will have to eventually pass the FLANT when it is administered by the Navy. If for some reason your doc had the conditions incorrect (ie wrong lighting etc) and that was enough for you to pass but when it comes to do it at your flight physical and...

    Dental Question

Thats kinda why I want to jump on it - I'll still be on the folks insurance for 4 months and it'll cover it. I know that for years my Orthodontist wanted them removed but because they never bothered me I didn't have it done. But if the Navy thinks they want them out, I can get it done for free...

    Dental Question

Gonna revive this thread again. I figure that odds are good that they will want to yank my wisdom teeth at sometime (either at OCS or sometime shortly thereafter) so I figure I might as well have them taken out now so I can recover on my own time. I can't find it in the waiver guide - do I have...

    Current Final Selects, None?

I'm assuming that since you took the prt that you passed meps (and what exactly is the 'new' prt?) Did you sign more papers for them to do the security clearance? That will take a lil bit to get going. Any med waivers that you're waiting on? Those can all hold you back. And don't sweat waiting...

    BDCP for Masters?

I dunno how that worked out for me, luck I guess. The only things I can see that stick out are that my school doesn't really have a legit undergrad in EE and second, maybe they're just playing favorites with engineering - I heard they're doing that with ROTC scholarships, so I wouldn't be too...

    BDCP competitevness

Well, the ASTB scores aren't like a school test - as in, you can't say "well I just got a C so I need to retake it to get a B or better". Its graded on a bell, so your scores really depend on how you did in relation to everyone else, not how many you got right out of the entire test. That said...

    Bdcp - prk

I was given a very firm no on that exact same question, however I was going for sna - don't know if you would be allowed to due to more relaxed vision standards but if you really want the surgery make sure that it's ok before you sign the line.
  41. nugget61

    MECEP fy 10

Ok, obviously you want some help. Sorry I can't provide you with any real insight, but here is some honest advice: sit down and shut up. Ask a question once, wait for an answer. You'll get a lot more help here if you're not coming off as annoying.
  42. nugget61

    BDCP competitevness

Are you competitive? Well the board does look at the whole person thing, and it seems like you're well on your way to having that covered, but your ASTB is downright miserable. If you aren't selected when you send in your package, the boards make you wait 6 months before you can reapply, unless...

    LASIK or PRK?

They care about your diopters prescription, not your 20/#. You should go and get an eval now - they're usually free as the doc wants to snag you, but you'll also learn about the financing they offer. Being an expensive elective surgery, they'll work with you more than you'd imagine. And you'll...

    PRK after USMC Commissioning

Yes and no - see below. I thought the same thing (-1.25&-1.00) but I was denied the 3 month waiver. Called NAMI, got a FS that does PRK waivers and he said that the 3 months only applies to those currently in, 6 months for ALL applicants.
  45. nugget61

Just got done with MEPS looking for an answer...

For USN you get your flight physical at OCS and if you passed everything at MEPS and they didn't want anything else from you then you should be good to go. From what I was told.

    PRK surgery

Little trigger happy with the create new thread button? I was told that PRK is a no-go after you sign the line for BDCP. I would imagine that since you're already "in" you'd have to go for a lateral transfer (pre-ocs maybe? I don't know how that works) but I don't think you can leave the...

    LASIK or PRK?

Bad gouge. You can get into the lasik study as a civ applicant now. Given that they both have the same time to get a waiver, the PRK recovery only sucks for about 3 days (and before this thread I've never heard of anyone needing more than Tylenol for the pain), they're the same price and you...

    Sidearms for Naval Aviators

Out of curiosity, how far can handgun ammo go underwater? I read somewhere that the bigger high power stuff is gone by like 3 feet but don't recall anything about underwater. But I know that the use you mean is when its wet and not when you're off fishing with the glock.
  49. nugget61

    Nugget61's PRK Process

Add to 1 - my Doc said that its around but its considered archaic and not nearly as successful as the WFG. And to 2 - Yeah, scary stuff. But the flight physical is on like day 2 of OCS so you should know something then if your career in the navy is dependent on you flying. The waiver actually...
