Lasik is waiverable, but you'd have to get into the study, do the paperwork yadayadayada... PRK should be easier since its more standardized right now for applicants. You can apply, get the Pro-rec and then pay for the surgery yourself - thats what I did. I knew I wouldn't pass NAMI without it...

Personal experience on the dryness, eh? I'd recommend keeping some of those one time use eye wetters with you at all times - my eyes still randomly dry out and it sucks when I don't have any handy. You especially shouldn't use straight water while you're still healing.

Russ is right - acuity wise you are fine. From what I hear the docs will just mark you as 20/20 and you get the little check in the box. Acuity isn't the only thing that you have to pass though... still have to be within limits of astigmatism, no halos/flares etc. I think its section 12.15 in...

So was it a faster surgery than you thought? Keep in mind that you won't have great vision for a few months... its easy to be impatient, but just wait it out and you'll be happy with the results.

They're done whenever your OR schedules them - he'll let you know. Not optimal (for you) to do the PRT the same day but its not unheard of either.

As long as you're 20/30 each eye by itself (combined doesn't matter) then don't sweat it, get the PRK later on. I was 20/40 combined and thought I would be OK but found out otherwise. Just don't get yourself locked into something that you don't want.

You have to pass MEPS to get the FS, so if you're 20/40 or better then I'd take the FS, wait on the PRK and let the Navy pay for it after you're out of OCS.

You can before the FS, but I was told that you cannot after the FS. Just what my OR said, so YMMV.

Cyclo astigmatisms don't matter, its your manifest astigmatism that counts.
