    Nugget61's PRK Process

Ok, long story short (see all in Exo's thread http://www.airwarriors.com/forum/showthread.php?t=145641&page=2 ) apparently the 3 month waiver is only for currently winged folks - applicants (who got Wavefront Guided, as you should) have to wait 6 months post op to submit their waiver paperwork...

    PRK Waiver Denied

For future reference, I just got off the phone with a NAMI eye doc that processes the PRK waivers and he cleared up my situation for me. What he said is that the 3 month waiver is only for currently designated aviators. The waiver guide is kinda misleading, and that it is to be fixed whenever...

    PRK Waiver Denied

Thread revival for a similar situation (I hope) Can you PM me the number and doc you talked to? I'd like to see if we're the same. Could you look at mine letter and tell if its the same thing? I'm thrown off by the blunt #3 if this isn't the real deal (not NAMI). Thanks. My letter: My...

    Nugget61's PRK Process

That's Exo's blog, IIRC. It not his, I know its someone's on here. That's what I hope this letter was (my OR hasn't processed a PRK waiver before) but my OR said it specifically said to reapply for the waiver once I hit 6 months, so I have a sinking suspicion that its from the big poobahs.

    Nugget61's PRK Process

Well I'll wait if I have to, I'm just starting to get nervous if I will get waived at all (I don't understand why it was denied) and worried that if I need to search for a civilian job than I'm behind the times. MEPS is required before you can final select, the flight physical is a routine...

    Nugget61's PRK Process

Ok, I need some feedback from those in the know... OR called today to say that he got a letter back from the waiver folks and that I was currently denied and to check back when I'm 6 months post op. I was expecting a "your NPQ for the surgery" letter and then later one saying that my waiver...

    Questions about vision & ASTB

Lasik is waiverable, but you'd have to get into the study, do the paperwork yadayadayada... PRK should be easier since its more standardized right now for applicants. You can apply, get the Pro-rec and then pay for the surgery yourself - thats what I did. I knew I wouldn't pass NAMI without it...

    Goin under the laser

Personal experience on the dryness, eh? I'd recommend keeping some of those one time use eye wetters with you at all times - my eyes still randomly dry out and it sucks when I don't have any handy. You especially shouldn't use straight water while you're still healing.

+1 for a meps style depth failure

Yeah, the waiver guide is what has me confused - if you read the next paragraph about the cyclo, it says that everyone has to be dilated and checked. I know that it states if you passed the manifest for astigmatism that any showing up in the cyclo doesn't matter. But if they didn't test your...

    Nugget61's PRK Process

Q regarding the waiver process - About how long should this take? I understand that they're busy and I'm trying to be patient, but I would love to FS before April so I can collect some BDCP cash before I graduate in July. They've had the paperwork for 4 full weeks now, starting the 5th week...
  22. nugget61

+1 for a meps style depth failure

They'll find your astigmatism when you have your cyclo exam. What happens from there if you're 20/20, I have no idea.

    Quick ASTB question

If you only want to fly then only apply pilot. I'd talk to the recruiter monday and get your paperwork squared away and sent in ASAP seeing as how you're worried about time (you have to finish OCS before you're 27 to fly IIRC) so you don't have a lot of time to screw around. What you should...

    Goin under the laser

Good luck man. I think it took me 2 days to become light sensitive, so just plan on it happening eventually. My near vision went to crap for a few weeks as well, but it came back. The surgery has a really fluctuating recovery, so just stick with it and you'll be fine. And I'm still taking the...

+1 for a meps style depth failure

Russ is right - acuity wise you are fine. From what I hear the docs will just mark you as 20/20 and you get the little check in the box. Acuity isn't the only thing that you have to pass though... still have to be within limits of astigmatism, no halos/flares etc. I think its section 12.15 in...

    Goin under the laser

So was it a faster surgery than you thought? Keep in mind that you won't have great vision for a few months... its easy to be impatient, but just wait it out and you'll be happy with the results.

    vision requirement for SNA confirmed

As long as you're 20/30 each eye by itself (combined doesn't matter) then don't sweat it, get the PRK later on. I was 20/40 combined and thought I would be OK but found out otherwise. Just don't get yourself locked into something that you don't want.
  38. nugget61

    vision requirement for SNA confirmed

You have to pass MEPS to get the FS, so if you're 20/40 or better then I'd take the FS, wait on the PRK and let the Navy pay for it after you're out of OCS.
  39. nugget61

You can before the FS, but I was told that you cannot after the FS. Just what my OR said, so YMMV.

    Not correctable to 20/20

Dude, I'm not going to fight with you on an online forum. It's a shame that instead of being helpful (as I would hope a SNA would be to a wannabe), you try to be condescending. I say try because while you came off as rude, there is no substance to your argument. Right underneath it is "Waiver...
