NEWS The Faces Of Naval Aviation Fighting ISIS

Dude, read the bottom of the photo essay. Some names were withheld at the request of the aircrew (the pics with callsign only), so they were given an option. I think it's a bit brash of them to put their name out there and wouldn't do it personally, but if they did it willingly and knowing the...

    USN Truman Fire; FA-18C Ejection

Wait, you're saying we trust people to do the right thing and treat them like adults? Shouldn't we punish everyone for the sins of the few? This is the Navy god damnit! I get there is a (obviously) generational thing going on with this. Thankfully, logic has prevailed thus far. Just because...

Don't have much advice for you since I'm still waiting to see how my house buying gamble works out. I'll give one piece of note though: if you think you're going to have a bunch of time to fix up a place that needs some TLC during your first sea tour, you're smoking crack.

    De Pol Watch Company

Applaud the dude for going after this. I personally don't find the designs appealing for the price he's asking, but then again, I don't think I'm the target audience. EDIT: Also interested in the details of the movement he's using.

Liability when the wings fall off an Aero Club one in a loop. Those things have been abused by studs for a long time in a harsh climate (Corpus/Pensacola).

Purple shirt, SSA, and questionable claims of PTSD

The judge sounded like an a-hole for degrading his service like that. Without knowing more of the merits of his case, I couldn't say for certain whether or not he deserved to have his claim denied. It's a bit callous to knock someone's honorable service. You don't have to kneel before them or...

    Professional Reading Drop Box

I'll say the author is, to me; an entitled prick. Nothing in the world allows him to judge other's pain or problems. His companions to the Civil War/WWII/Vietnam are inconsequential. There were generations of Vets who saw terrible things and buried those feelings in a bottle at the VFW post...

    What are you reading?

I specifically remember a 60 Foxtrot in the second half of the book. The use of "stealth" for a decapitating preemptive strike was quit predictive given the 86 publishing date and the 87 public reveal of the F-117. Either way, compelling story given the resurgent Russians lately.

    What are you reading?

On the topic of miniseries that would be good: I'd really love to see Red Storm Rising as a TV Miniseries. I know the Clancy estate is in a bit of turmoil at the moment, but that would be pretty awesome. I read it last year again, and it was even better with my limited Navy knowledge now.

Stupid Questions about Naval Aviation (Part 3)

Original link is a French site ( http://cigeography.blogspot.fr/2015/05/USNavy-aircrafts-sheet.html?m=1 ), and it might be NMCI, but the site shows Asian and Russian text as well. Color me suspicious of a cool thing that effectively maps out all of Naval Aviation for a poster.

More restricted use H-60's for civilian use coming soon

My understanding was the -60A models were still in use by National Guard, Reserve, and the Rucker folks until the -60Ms started getting delivered. So very recently. I also have to think the material condition is a bit better due to maritime vs overland basing. You could sell me on the idea...

    Hot new helicopter/rotorcraft news

I'd argue an EC135 would be a better bet. UH-72 drivers I've talked to love it. You can leverage it to the station SAR units as well. Much cheaper to operate and maintain that a -60S I'd imagine. Edit: I don't think the full auto part is as important. Power recovery is all they're going to...

Why don't the Marines fly H-60's?

I love auto fold, but I wonder if we couldn't have thrown a few bucks at it and replaced the somewhat unreliable and vintage 70s relay style fold system.
