For serious, can't the OP get a GeoBachelor chit signed and live in the BOQ while his wife in in Pensacola? Is there some CNATRA rule I missed that doesn't allow it?

Tablet vs Laptop on deployment (kids these days I know)

I have the Mini 4 for kneeboard use in the land of Orange and White. Pretty nice. Had an Air 2 before this and gave it to the wife. About the same performance wise. The 9.7in Pro seems quite nice as the new hotness. Heard good things about the new screen and speakers for use watching movies...

To each their own. I want the App Store, ForeFlight moving map/approach plates (worth it for this alone), tons of iPad games, MS Office for iPad, built in LTE/GPS, tons of 3rd party accessories, and beyond.

Most folks I've talked to who had the Surface thought it was neither a good tablet nor good laptop. Edit: It may be discontinued. http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016/06/surface-3-stocks-dwindling-as-microsoft-plans-systems-demise/

    SECNAV to Implement Sweeping Changes

A lot of the folks here expressing frustrations about the boat tour are guys who would have no problem going to a sea tour doing the job they spent years of their lives becoming experts at. Instead they have no choice due to the winging contract that they signed as a bushy tailed MIDN/OC...

    Hot new helicopter/rotorcraft news

You're missing my point. I don't care about IX-514 the hull. What I want for the future of Navy helicopter pilots is the best possible training in the world, including a chance to see a boat. I've asked the question and been told the FRSes aren't reporting a diminished product, so the Navy...

    Hot new helicopter/rotorcraft news

Not that I've seen but I'm still new. I would hope the STAN folks would nip that in the bud quickly. It gets beat into your brain pretty quick that grade sheets are written not only for the student but also the CO, CDRE, and ultimaltey, CNATRA, in the event of poor performance.

    NEWS Drop-in wonder engine?

From everything I've read about the -53K, it shares very little with the older E models. Essentially a clean sheet design internally. @Pags We've gone around on this before, so no need to rehash. Everything has constraints and the Navy bought all the helicopter they wanted to afford, nothing more.

    NEWS Drop-in wonder engine?

IMO, if they ever did an engine upgrade, it would be to the newer GE D model engine, since it's more or less of a drop in replacement. However, I don't see it happening. Too many other priorities for why meager money gets spent on helos.

    First Shore Tour to NPS

A smart person once told me Naval Aviation really values two types of "graduate eduction" for JOs. One is the kind you get after a few months in Fallon and comes with a patch. The other you get at the FRS while you're instructing there. All others are nice, but won't help you be a DH and...

Life chasing subs just got more interesting!

I don't think we've actually verified that's a true statement. LCS hasn't exactly worked out. In any event, the Virginia class is the US Navy's version of a cheaper sub platform. It can do everything that's needed at a cheaper price than its predecessors (Seawolf), and is one of the few...

Waste to pay for private pilot's license?

The contortions Academy folks went through to avoid the rules ("secret" in company relationships, party apartments in town, sneaking around the yard) just seemed pointless.
