    T-45 Mishap

Fetus speaks the truth. I had a big long story typed out about how one of the squadron wives, wanting to be the one with the scoop, once sent my entire family into panic by calling my parents, not my wife--my parents, and shooting off at the lips about a crash that I had nothing to do with. In...

    USMC 'O' promotion info

For official pictures, your left foot is supposed to be forward. So if it was a mirrored picture, his right foot would have been forward and belt tip pointed to the right, in addition to the ribbons being on the wrong side. Dork here just tested out his last picture and those were the results.

    Ged

So I perused your posting history. What I saw was a high schooler who hasn't yet figured out what he wants to do with his life. Given that, STAY IN SCHOOL. So far you've started threads about PLC, NROTC, USNA, and Recon. If you graduate high school, then you will one less obstacle in your...

    SNFO or SNA?

Like I said, if you signed an NFO training agreement...at least you know you'll be getting jets. Joking aside, nobody here will be able to tell you for sure what's going to happen. MCRC will get the final say, but if you kept a copy of what you signed it might make your life a little easier.
  14. C

    SNFO or SNA?

As far as what pipeline you end up in, having something read incorrectly at your commissioning means exactly zilch-point-shit. Getting a letter from the Commanding General who approved your flight contract carries a little more weight. The letter I saw said at the top: GUARANTEE OF...

    SNFO or SNA?

That looks to me like you've already been designated a student NFO. I would dig out the training agreement you signed for your application to see what it says and talk to your MOI immediately. Since your designation letter is over a year old, you might be SOL. Edit: Moved to Marines (USMC)...

UAVs, not just an Air Force gig anymore

Obviously the UAV operator isn't in danger of being shot down, but some of the places they work out of are remote and isolated. I know we have some dets at Al Asad, but others that are, well, smaller and don't have as many friendlies nearby. I like to think they would have good security but I...

UAVs, not just an Air Force gig anymore

For those who don't know, we have multiple UAV squadrons, mainly working with the Pioneer and Scan Eagle systems. The mission commanders are officers, some air intel guys, some aviators. Pilots fresh out of the Hornet and Harrier RAGs are getting IAs to be mission commanders. The current CO...

Looking for gouge? Ask your Stupid Questions about Naval Aviation here (Part 1)

All helos can and do deploy on amphibs. C model Hornets go on carriers. Harriers go on amphibs. Prowler pilots CQ but don't go to the boat again. Each squadron has its own maintenance department, and therefore has its own maintainers. I don't feel like typing a whole lot, unless you'd...

You sure about that? For a while, once you had an NFO contract, you weren't allowed to change. Period. Is that not the case anymore?

The Great Flight Jacket Thread (wearing/buying Leather, NOMEX, WEP jackets/patches)

I got mine while I was at 129. It was, however, the ONLY thing I got while I was at 129. Other than a bunch of document numbers. To keep this related to the thread, my fancy new jacket had, and still has, only my nametag on it. No more, no less.

NAS Key West: Good, Bad, & Ugly

We went there one evening for something to eat. Ended up staying for a few hours while we (drank and) decided to not risk going back home the next day for weather. Good music, decent food, and the beer was cold. Can't complain about that combo. I went everywhere on the island on a quest to...

    mjchilling - banned troll/wannabe

In your first post you claim to have a flight contract and you're going to OCS, yet you apparently don't know the first thing about what you've gotten yourself into. Do a search for a thread called "Best threads" and knock yourself out. Stop posting crap like this.

Monster Marine OCS thread: stupid questions answered here!

Here's an old thread where a student trying to get internship credit for OCS was denied. The brochure you got sounds like "ingenuity in recruiting" at best. Points for creativity, FAIL for promising you a rose garden.

Looking for gouge? Ask your Stupid Questions about Naval Aviation here (Part 1)

Official or not, that patch is still alive and well in some places. Click here for an updated version. Even though our Prowlers don't normally operate off of a carrier these days, Marine pilots, at least for now, have to CQ while at 129.

    Marathon training while in primary

If you're expecting to be in the greater Pensacola area for a year or so, there's also the First Light Marathon in Mobile. It's typically mid-January every year, and registration is something ridiculous like $25. I did it while I was still in primary ground school. That will give you over the...

    Questions about joining the Marines

No no no, I want there to be some name calling and hair pulling before this is over. I've seen it both ways. I've known maintainers who were with deploying squadrons for 20 years who didn't get a chance to do college classes. Night crew, mid crew, det here, det there, det everywhere. I'm...

    Questions about joining the Marines

I forgot to put this in my first post, but I did 10+ years enlisted and a few as an officer. For me--good times, bad times. Some days were great, some were about as cool as a sack full of AIDS, but overall I've loved it and I'm glad I did it.

    Questions about joining the Marines

    Sea Daddy Program

I think this is the line everybody has a problem with, right? The first time I read it, this is what I saw: and what it sounds like most of you are seeing is: I'm not sure which it is, but before everybody deep fries the guy, why don't we let him explain? I can't say I'd ever try to...

    Renting An Airplane

These questions can and will have to be answered by the person/FBO you rent from. Is it safe to assume you aleady have your license? Most places will charge you an __ hour minimum if you keep the plane overnight or a weekend, and you pay the greater of the minimum or actual flight time...
