    Officer Candidates @ NROTC

I think it depends on the school how things work. For us, OCs and Mids were almost considered equal. It depended on performance who got more respect and got treated better. Obviously more was expected of the OCs but there were some good Mids out there too. Some OCs look at college as a...

    USAA for a mortgage?

I wouldn't recommend it. I tried to get a mortgage in 2002 through PHH (the company USAA is in cahoots with). They approved me for a whopping $102k. So I paid off some bills and called them a month later and they still said $102k. The next day I called Wachovia and got approved for over...

Im pretty sure OCS stop letting people use the black boots once they (said black boots) became obsolete.

By "old" boots do you mean "black" boots? ALICE packs with a light load. Slightly faster than most people might be used to but very doable.

Long time, no see, Frumby. NROTC/MECEP graduates are getting issued Palm Pilots. At least in some places they are.... Besides, I do remember (not here though) waiting in long ass lines at the phone center because we didn't have phones in our rooms. Of course, that was about the same time I...

    PFT and Promotions

You have to take a PFT at a minimum every six months. One between 1 January and 30 June, another between 1 July and 31 December. Usually it's more often than that, for various reasons.

How do I become an Marine Officer after I enlist?

MLO? Never heard of one. And upon further examination of your original post, in the future, it's probably best if you learn a little about MECEP before trying to speak intelligently about it.
  13. C

How do I become an Marine Officer after I enlist?

Not true. I'm a MECEP grad with a SNFO guarantee. Didn't have to wait until halfway either. And what in the world is an MLO?

Role of PFT/PT in TBS Class Rank

You'll get a breakdown when you get to TBS. Don't sweat it too much until then. Just know that the 2 most highly weighted events are your first and second command evaluations, at 14% and 22% respectively. Most of the tests are about 2-4% each.
  15. C

Role of PFT/PT in TBS Class Rank

Your PFT score makes up 2% of your overall GPA. Endurance course is 2%. Double O course is 1%.
  16. C

How do I become an Marine Officer after I enlist?

For MECEP you stay on active duty, so your time in college counts towards pay, promotions, retirement, etc.... Also, like handjive said, don't count on getting credits for your MOS school. Sure, recruiters use that as a selling point because there are some diploma mills out there that will...

    Regime Change - Workout Ideas

If you want stamina from lifting, you may want to try a high rep workout such as 3 sets of 12 or if you're a real masochist, 4 sets of 15. If you want size and strength, try something like 5 sets of 5 or 10 sets of 4. I do all four of the workouts I just described and alternate between them...

    PLC question

Easy there, professor. Enlisted recruiters serve a different purpose than OSOs, obviously. Most of the recruiters I've talked to didn't know anything about officer programs. Nothing against them, but since finding new officers isn't necessarily their job, they often don't know as much about...

That's why it's best to thrash yourself mercilessly before you get there. Prepare for the worst and expect......you know the rest. I always hear people say "I'll do fine on the PFT unless I have a bad day". Your best bet is to make sure your "rainy day PFT fund" still has at least 250 points...

    NROTC w/o scholarship

If you start in the fall, I would highly recommend you do the Freshman Orientation program at your new school. Freshman or not, it's very beneficial if you are new to the program and not prior service. And fun. Heh heh.

Stats For Ocs Class 189!!!!! Anyone?

Glen, Thanks, I get commissioned tomorrow! Good luck getting into OCS. Hopefully people will see my point, the quality of applicants varies on each board, and nobody can predict what will get you selected/passed over for any given board. That being said, getting in is the easy part. OCS...

  29. C

    Army Warrant Officer Aviator??

He doesn't mean flying experience, he means experience in general. To become a WO in the Marine Corps, the MINIMUM time in service is 8 years. Usually it's more like 10-12 years. Sure you will have some prior service Lt's, but you will also have some that are barely 21 or 22 years old. You...

Stats For Ocs Class 189!!!!! Anyone?

Oh, I see the difference. No, wait. I don't. What you said about commissioning programs is true but I don't see how it applies here. Nobody's talking about how much it costs for each program or how many slots are available. Besides, a former board member will have some good insight on the...

Hate me if you want, but you really have nothing to base this on. Have you ever sat on a selection board? Do you know how widely the selection criteria varies from board to board? I'm not talking about the minimum requirements. One board have see an overload of turds while the next may have...

I think the CRT max run time was 28 minutes and the E Course max time was ~42 minutes (not sure about that one). If you run 18 minutes or close to it, start working on your boots/utes time. Our PTI told us we started at 8 minute miles the first week. Those were the fastest 8 minute miles...

Any MIDN with pilot licenses out there?

Right, right, all the channels, X & Y, 63 channels apart for air to air. 500 watts minimum transmit power, +/-3 degrees accuracy, ID tone check.......guess I did retain something from all those years of working on them. Of course, those are ARN-118 specs. The old ARN-52's and -105's would...

In Between OCS and College graduations

Next time you're thinking about being in candidate purgatory, remember that some MECEP students don't get commissioned until THREE YEARS after they finish OCS. That's a healthy little wait to crush your spirit. Anyway, I agree that OCS didn't have all the pomp and circumstance surrounding it...
