    Incentive Flights Question

We do it, but not often depending on what you're hoping to fly in. For us it's a matter of all the stars lining up. Flight physical, physiology, finding an open seat, the right kind of flight, approval message from MAW or HQMC, etc etc. We can't do incentive flights at night, over water, or...

The S-3 decommissioning has been planned for years. Reserve squadrons are being shut down and their assets distributed to active duty squadrons. These things were all decided when gas was "cheap".

    Malaria Pills

^When we were taking them, I had never heard of any side effects and nobody I worked with ever mentioned anything unusual. We stopped taking them when a batch got recalled, and none of us got malaria. We did have somebody from another shop come down with "Mystery Ailment" and get quarantined...

I took them before going to Africa and while we had evacuees onboard. No problems from the pills. Edit: This was several years ago, I guess it's the same thing you would get now.

    Question about MECEP process.

Not quite. Each unit does an interview board for its applicants but does not rank them, only makes recommendations: Recommended with enthusiasm Recommended Recommended with reservation Not recommended Typically the CO goes with what the board says. There's no limit to the number of...

    Question about MECEP process.

    1) The rank requirement was dropped a few years ago. The problem is that as a new Marine, still bouncing from duty station to duty station, it's going to be hard to put an application together and find somebody to write a good enough recommendation to help you get in. Not saying it can't be...

    Advice

I'm guessing that a PRT is not high priority right now. Everybody trying to help you is talking about how the Navy does it. Obviously for us you have to have at least a first class PFT to be eligible for OCS, so the PFT timing might be a little different.

Opening my mind to military aviation

The way I read this post, it implies that every single enlisted person is trying to get commissioned. Some aren't eligible (tattoos, citizenship, etc) and some just aren't interested. Enlisting is not designed to be a stepping stone to being an officer, but sometimes it happens that way...

Medal and ribbon display (with big medals)

I know (at least I've been told) that's how the Navy does it, and I just don't want there to be any confusion. Marines do not wear ribbons like that. When we wear medals, ribbons over the right pocket are still in 'normal' precedence, right to left, top to bottom. It's on page 5-15 (para...

    Question about Marines/Blue Angels

When I saw the title "Question about Marines/blues" I thought you meant the uniform, so I edited the title. If that makes you feel all sad inside, let me know and I'll change it back. Never wanted to be a Blue Angel, don't know the answer.

    Prowler FRS?

If you just selected, T-2 EPs will keep you busy for a while. VT-86 is still flying T-2s, right? Once the time draws closer, somebody can get you a copy of the Prowler EPs. They aren't too complex. I'll post more on an ECMO's take on 129 later.

    USMC OCS to TBS

If your son graduates in August, he still as ~6 weeks of OCS left, right? In that case, no, OCS won't be worried about giving him all the details of TBS right now, but will be focused on his performance at OCS. At graduation gets closer, he will get more information. Like everybody has said...

    Reality Check.

    A little heart to heart

The sad truth is that every unit, every rank, every MOS in the Marine Corps has at least a couple of turds lurking around in it. Luckily these turds are far less common than the good guys out there. Just because you have a bad OIC/SNCOIC now doesn't mean you always will. The opposite also...

If what you say is really true, I hear IOC could use a few more steely eyed killers. Better Marines and better pilots than you have been "stuck" with 46s and Prowlers and have made actual contributions to the war effort. It's fine to have your preferences but you don't know enough to make...

Stupid questions about Naval Aviation (Pt 2)

The AIC-14, picture courtesy of VetteMuscle, is pretty common. We use it, Hawkeyes use it apparently, and most of our helos use it. The skids used to have some weird looking but similarly functioning ICS/radio controller, the C-6533. I used to work on all of this crap but it's been a few...
