    Ifs

If you check in early with Mike Co. you will be getting paid. However, you have to make sure that you can do that. I don't know if they'll let you check in early just for the hell of it.

    Computers at TBS...

Crowbar, I talked to the Sprint lady about how the DSL service was so bad for a few weeks. Apparently someone in O'Bannon hooked up their router backwards, so the IP addresses for EVERYONE using DSL was coming from his router and it screwed everything up. She said they fixed the problem...

    Computers at TBS...

No, Sir, they are not. In fact, Palm Pilots and the like are strictly forbidden from the classrooms. Now, if you were joking, well then, touche!

    Boq

You know I really think it just depends on the SPC/Co Staff. I've got the HoJo lenins on my rack and I just sleep under my poncho liner. But my roommate has a sleeping bag on his rack and has his own comforter and he has never gotten hit on it for an inspection. My thinking is, as long as...

    Computers at TBS...

Yeah he was lying to you. No cable internet yet. Still sucky DSL.
  6. P

    Computers at TBS...

They have DSL now, but its not all that great. It cuts off several times a day, sometimes you have to go into your network settings and manually repair it. But, it's worlds faster than dial-up.

    Looks damn cold!

Wait til you get further into the POI. Then you will be wishing for PT...or you'll be like me and do it on your own. Unless of course your SPC is a PT stud. Okay, thread hijacking over.

Sooo, you quit because you couldn't handle the cold?

    Dress Blues

It depends on the OSO. I know my OSO would not let us get commissioned in our cammies, but you've got a better reason for cammies then I do.

    Questions on reporting in/Christmas leave

How does Christmas leave work while you're in the pipeline? I know it's a ways away, but I was trying to get an idea for next Christmas because I have a wedding to go to, along with Christmas two days later. Any help would be appreciated.

    Inspection Hints, Tips, & Stories

There is nothing wrong with that. In fact, I believe the staff even tells you to keep one uniform (w/o the white nametapes) specifically for inspections so it doesn't get trashed during the training cycle. That will also be your graduation uniform.
  12. P

    Inspection Hints, Tips, & Stories

Respectfully, Sir, I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that one. There was a candidate in my platoon back in the summer of '03 who went out on libo and bought gear specifically for the inspections. During inspection, the platoon sergeant noticed how clean and new it looked and failed him on...

Changing from Ground to Air contract???

I figured this would also be appropriate for this forum. If there are any of you who, for whatever crazy reason it is, want to DROP your air contract at TBS, take this word of caution: Starting with Alpha Co. (which just picked up) any Lts who choose to drop their air contracts will be placed...

    When to order uniforms?

I'd be REALLY careful about buying your uniforms on eBay. That is, if it were me, I flat out wouldn't do it. Yes, uniforms are rather expensive, but there are plenty of loans out there to help you out -- I think the TBS Uniform Shop has a pretty good one. I wouldn't trust a uniform bought on...

    When to order uniforms?

We haven't worn our Bravo's in Alpha Co. on Fridays, mainly because a lot of Lts don't have them. Our company staff knows this and they also know the process for buying uniforms, getting fitted, etc. So they're not pushing us to get them sooner rather than later. We have a set schedule that...

    When to order uniforms?

We're wearing Bravos on Fridays, not Alphas.

    The Basics of TBS

    1. I know that for MLK day, it will be a 72 hour holiday (3 days). For President's Day and Memorial Day, they'll be 96's (four days). 2. You will have to have a sword at least 1/3 of the way through the POI (period of instruction, what they call the training cycle at TBS). There will be...

    Appropriate Civilian Attire?

Yeah, I think I saw the TBS XO give an ass chewing to a few Lts who were wearing jeans in the Hanson Room. I guess the later you get into the POI, the nastier you get when it comes to proper civilian attire.

    Cancelled Summer Class

Seems like the summer class might be cancelled every summer! I wonder if it has to do with manpower. I know with my company, they were hard pressed to find Drill Instructors, so most of the staff was plucked up from their other Marine jobs in the area. One was even brought in from the IRR!
  20. P

    So, when do I go?

When I was there, PLC-C and OCC were together in one company, but that was the first time they had done it. I think it was based on the fact that they didn't have enough staff for two companies. I believe this past summer it was separated into two companies, though.

    Marineocs.com

Well, there is a Marine OCS forum for this website, so y'all could always use that for the time being!

    OCS and g/f's

You will not have any internet access while at OCS, however when you get liberty, you can go somewhere to access the internet. There is a coffee shop in Q-Town (the town on base, right off the railroad tracks) called General Java that has like 5 or 6 computers with internet access. You have to...

    Contract

I had the same thing happen with me, for the same reasons. If there are slots available, you should be able to switch to Air. If the board is meeting in three weeks, then that is probably why he's trying to get you to sign now, so he can get it in with enough time to spare.

    DOR POLICY FOR USMC OCS

A buddy of mine who is classing up with Alpha Co. is at TBS right now with Mike Co. He said he dropped his flight contract and as a result is going ground, however he cannot compete for a Ground MOS. He said he can, however, submit a preference list to his SPC and if the SPC agrees with it, he...

So are you saying we're not going to get a full two weeks off for the holidays?

Talk to an OSO, they'll know for sure.

    Happy 228th Marine Corps!

As a Marine, I found absolutely nothing wrong with your post. Lighten up, people, she obviously meant no harm.

    MY chances

Oh yes, they call you nasty so much you'll think it's your first name! DocT, I read you loud and clear. I got seriously nasty when I got back to civilian life. I'm literally counting down the days to Nov. 28 when I can get back into the flow of "life." I agree about the chow being so good...

OCS during the summer when my college runs on a trimester?!

Talk to your OSO, then talk to your school. I don't think there is anyone here that is fully qualified to answer your question the right way. Just remember, when it comes to questions about the application process, your OSO will have all the right answers.
  31. P

OCS during the summer when my college runs on a trimester?!

You shouldn't be sad. You can still go to OCS after you graduate from college, that is, if you can't get out for the summer. Your OSO will have the best answer for this, though.
  32. P

OCS during the summer when my college runs on a trimester?!

If you only get 2-3 weeks off for summer, then I would assume that you'd have to wait and do OCC after you graduate. Hey, maybe your college could consider OCS as an abroad program! :D
  33. P

    MY chances

I understand your point, Crowbar, but those of us who have been can give some insight as to what it takes to be accepted because of the fact that we've already been accepted. Our stats can provide them with a template for what they may need to shoot for. I told him his GPA was fine because...

    MY chances

Don't worry about your GPA at all. Mine was lower than that. Get max pullups and crunches and a run time under 21:30 and you'll be golden.

    Alpha Co.

I just got my orders to report for Alpha Co. and I am more than ready. That being said, I have a question for those of you up at TBS now or those who have finished recently: what kind of stuff should I bring with me if I'm living in the BOQ? Also, what kinds of civilian clothes? I heard...

    Ifs

I understood that they're trying to make it so that all Air Contracts have to go through IFS, regardless of prior flight time. I think those with considerable prior time (PP licenses, etc.) would have the option to not go, however. Don't quote me on that, though.
  38. P

    Ifs

I think you may be wrong, kmc. I have over 15 hours of flight time logged and I've soloed 3 or 4 times and I am still eligible for IFS. In fact, I was told since I had not done a solo cross country yet I would HAVE to do IFS.

    OCS quotes

That sounds exactly like Barnes! Gunny Barnes was my Sergeant Instructor and he loved giving hell to the Candidate in my platoon from the Citadel. Honestly, I miss Gunny Barnes....call me crazy, but I do.

    Pushups at OCs

Actually, according to my PTI last summer, the object of OCS is not to build strength. That is why they usually aren't surprised to see drops in PFT scores. He told us that physically, OCS is designed to break your body down and yet still handle the tough physical nature of OCS. My PFT score...

    Pushups at OCs

If you're not sounding off enough during stretching, the PTI will motivate you to sound off. We probably ended up pumping out 100 pushups one morning, just during the stretching session. Oh yeah, this was the same day as the O-Course test. Make sure your pushups are good to go. Besides...

    OCS length and advice

I found the best thing to do was to wear a white athletic sock under the black boot socks. The corpsman recommended we do this because it would keep our feet cooler and draw the moisture away so we wouldn't get blisters. It definitely worked for me!
  44. P

    Whats up with Mike Co.

Hey Dustball, I didn't get orders for Oct. 1, so I guess I'm reporting Nov. 24 and it looks like I'll be doing IFS after TBS. Make sure to keep me posted on everything!

    Some Questions

Actually, I read an article a few months back about how a Marine Colonel became a CAG. It was a pretty significant article since he was the first Marine to ever hold that position. I believe it was back in January maybe?
  46. P

How long did you wait for a TBS date?

According to the OCS website, OCC 187 graduation is indeed December 10.
  47. P

    Health insurance and OCS

True, because you check into TBS right after OCS graduation I believe. Plus the fact that for OCC, the wait time between OCS and TBS is a few weeks while for PLC its usually a few months.
  48. P

    Health insurance and OCS

I know for a fact (or at least what I was told from my OSO several times) that between OCS and TBS, you will not fall under any military health coverage. I'm in a 7-month wait to go to TBS in November and I had to go ahead and buy some short-term medical insurance, just to be on the safe side...
  49. P

    Liberty at TBS

Well, land nav is done in the woods, so with lots of thick foliage, it would be harder to navigate through, whereas with no leaves, it would be easier to see farther. That's my guess, at least.

    Health insurance and OCS

I had NOE when I broke my foot. Only trouble was, there was so much paperwork and I had to wait forever to see if my doctor was covered under Tricare. When all was said and done and I was told I could possibly get an answer, my foot had been 100% for about 3 months and the bills had already...
