Come on now, don't go bashing my hometown. I'm sure its given you plenty of great times.

    API during Christmas

Awesome, thanks a lot. I just hope they don't do the same this year, since the last friday before Christmas Eve is the day before Christmas Eve.

    TBS check in

Funny, Alpha Co. was told to check into MATSG in Alphas....

    API during Christmas

I've got a tentative start date of 18 Nov for API. Does anyone know if there will be classes going on during the Christmas holidays (obviously not during the 96, but before and after)?

IFS - What should I expect?

I did it at Dulles Aviation and loved it. Only problem I had was with weather. I really liked the way they did things there.
  6. P

IFS - What should I expect?

You're soul purpose in life will really be to get IFS done with. You'll be in a separte platoon in Mike Co. (the IFS platoon) so you won't be put on any working parties. So when you're not flying, either lock your door or don't answer it if somebody knocks, or just stay away from Camp Barrett.

    Ptad

I neglected to explain an integral part of this game. While one thumb is up the butt, your other thumb is in your mouth. Then you switch thumbs. Then repeat (sorry, rinsing and washing is against the rules in this game). :D :D :D

    Ptad

  9. P

    Ptad

Switch is when you sit around with a thumb up your butt, then after a period of time, switch to your other thumb. Repeat this all day/week/month/year/etc. It's a great way to pass the time.

    Ptad

Hey Fong, don't feel bad. I've been playing 'switch' since I got to Pensacola last week. And it looks like I'll be playing it until October. Man do I love a good game of switch.

    Ifs Question

Summer weather in Quantico/Manassas sucks. You have the same threat of thunderstorms as down here, plus all the heat makes the visibility awful. I honestly think I had more cancelled flights then real flights. Nobody I was in IFS was ever put on a working party, for the mere fact that we...
  12. P

    Ifs Question

If I were you, I wouldn't try to get out of Quantico quickly by requesting Pensacola for IFS. I know you'll be sick of Quantico, but I'm so glad I stayed and got IFS done up there. There are some Lts down here who have to wait several months before even classing up with IFS. Get it done in...

    AUG 12th ANYONE?

WTF? What kind of PT are they having us do?
  14. P

    AUG 12th ANYONE?

Well, I suppose it's better than sitting on my ass in Quantico!
  15. P

    AUG 12th ANYONE?

Aug 12 is my report date. But I probably won't start until sometime in October.

    Marine OCS Ceremony

We never got EGA's when I went through PLC-Combined back in the summer of '03.
  17. P

    FFEX III Question

Yup, you'll be getting gassed. We only got gassed once, but had a few false alarms. One platoon was gassed the last night of the FEX, all through the night. This was after my platoon completely ran through their defense. :D

    Sleep depravation

That would be 2400 or 0000. :icon_wink I remember my squad bay hallucinations as well. I swear I would wake up and see Sergeant Instructors roaming up and down the highway like ghosts. At other times I would wake up at 0130 and start putting my cammies on to get ready for the day, only...

    Ifs Question

PLC has the Flight Indoctrination program, which is essentially IFS before you graduate college (unless they've done away with that). Talk to your OSO about it. I did that, but still ended up having to do IFS since I didnt' do a solo XC trip.

  21. P

    Tbs?

Yeah, it definitely seemed like 12 months (ok, maybe 9) shoved into 6.
  22. P

    Very Important Question

You may be able to go straight to TBS. The wait between OCC and TBS is usually not more than 2 weeks. That probably wouldn't be enough time to do PTAD with your OSO.
  23. P

    USMC Aviation/Introduction.

I don't think that one needs to max the PFT in order to show a bunch of 18-22 year olds why they're an Officer of Marines. Not everyone is capable of running an 18 minute three mile. My SPC at TBS was a rather large individual and said the best he could do was a 22 min 3 mile. Does that make...

Ah yes, a nice dose of 800mg of suck it the f*&k up!

    Latest wait time for API?

Anyone know the wait time for Marine SNA's right now?
  26. P

    Pay at OCS

You'll get BAH if you're married and live out in town. If you're a geo-bachelor (wife doesn't come to TBS with you) I believe you'll get BAH for wherever she is living. You'll get like $13/month BAH for living in the barracks (that's what is left over).

    Gulf Breeze?

    It's a rental.
  28. P

    Gulf Breeze?

I doubt I'll be in A-Pool for long, so I'm told. Thanks for the input, though. I'm still looking, but that house is almost too good to pass up (and no, I won't say where it is or where I found it...I ain't that dumb!).
  29. P

    Gulf Breeze?

Anyone here live in Gulf Breeze or know anyone that does? I just found a great house there for a great price and I was wondering how worth it it is to live there, with regards to driving distances and whatnot. Any help would be appreciated!

More importantly, if you're not going into the service, why are you here?
  31. P

    B-billet blues.

Whoa there, pal. You're really thinking WAY too far ahead with that one. Concentrate on one step at a time. The B-billets will still be there when you're time comes.
  32. P

    car market

Not that I've seen. I don't know why anyone would want to get rid of their car before going on to follow-on MOS schools.

    Losing Flight Contract

I've actually noticed quite a few of the air contracts being gear queers here. I figured its not worth it to spend a bunch of money on crap I'll never use again in the fleet. I also realized after patrolling how much of a waste a tactical sling was - I'm glad mine was passed down so I didn't...

    Losing Flight Contract

Whatever floats your boat. As for the goggles thing. We never had any serious eye pokings at night (though we did have a guy get caught in some concertina wire and split his calf open). If you ask me, you're just as vulnerable during the day - those branches are ruthless! And I was...

    A Typical Day at TBS

You know I've noticed that. Maybe its because I grew accustomed to 25 degree weather, so 55 degrees isn't cold for me anymore. But they sure do love that goretex jacket.
  37. P

    Should I throw the dice?

You cannot switch from NFO to Pilot at TBS, even if you get the surgery. "A contract is a contract" is what we were told when MATSG came up to brief us.
  38. P

Help: my knee just came apart

Don't try and be a hardass - go see a doctor. That's the same thing they'll tell you at TBS if you get hurt. Don't let injuries linger, get them taken care of immediately. Believe me, you do not want to be stuck in Mike Company healing your broke self while the rest of your company is...
  39. P

How long did you wait for TBS?

Maybe this was the case for my platoon, but we've never had an instance where the ops fund rep was always asking for money. All he ever asked for was the monthly ops fund dues, which turned out to be a problem in and of itself - what's so hard about paying $36 a month and turning the check in...

    A Typical Day at TBS

Oh, and this is VERY important: Gore-Tex is not a warming layer ;)
  41. P

    A Typical Day at TBS

You'll do buddy rushes at TBS, because it is more realistic. And no more of the OCS screaming when you rush. We were specifically told by an AI during FEX I to forget that trash.
  42. P

    A Typical Day at TBS

I definitely messed up Call for Fire. Writing Skills was ridiculous. I remember getting here and during Zero Week they told me we'd have these classes and then take a Writing Skills exam. I was like, WTF, over? First off, I haven't taken grammar or any of that trash since freshman year of...

    Proper Blister Care

Who are you USMC_Candidate? That's right, you're still a candidate. I'm not going to start a pissing contest here. Now, I've gotten a few comments about my post. Honestly, I didn't think it would ruffle that many feathers - apparently I was wrong. It was purely a JOKE. Sorry if it...
  44. P

    Proper Blister Care

How do you prevent blisters? Easy, just tell your platoon staff you don't feel like going out on the hump and would rather hang out in the squad bay. I'm sure they'd be more than happy to accomodate you!
  45. P

    Should I throw the dice?

I signed both contracts just in case my ASTB scores weren't passing. But my OSO wouldn't send them in until we got the scores back. I passed, so I got Air. At TBS, it is possible get an Air Slot if you pass the ASTB, however, there are usually very few slots in each class (very few meaning 1...

    Commissioning Ceremony

Actually, you probably should talk to your OSO about it, because that is still part of his responsibility. I remember when I was commissioned, I couldn't have my OSO there because he was doing 2 other commissioning ceremonies across the state, but he was calling me every week making sure I was...

    Book's in... now what.

Don't do that. Then you'll break your hand and just have to wait longer.

    Arriving a day late

Hey pal, I don't think three months of TBS qualifies you as an "old salt"! We haven't even gotten to FEX II and you already think you're crusty. :D
  50. P

    Arriving a day late

Personally, I don't know why the hell you would want to start OCS RIGHT after you finish your finals. Honestly, that is the craziest thing I have ever heard.
