All this from your vast pool of experience? If I wanted to work in the History field then I would probably have to get a grad degree, unless I wanted to teach high school, but I sure did not need one in the Navy or in real life.

What does experience have to do with knowing that there are a lot more engineerings jobs than there are jobs for historians?

Are there really that many engineering jobs for people who only have a B.S.? And one that is 7+ years old (by the time you fly and get out)?

Simple answer to the first part of your question is, yes. For the second part, if you are comparing the engineering degree to say bible study then the answer is still yes. I'm not making all this up...you have the internet at your fingertips...for those who wish to verify.

Because I can't think of anything more important in my life to learn more about.

Right now my career plans include 20 years (hopefuly) in the USMC. At some point during that time I plan on getting a masters or a JD and working in that field.
