Anthropometric issues (are you too big or even too small or...)

Unbelievably bad gouge. I've posted this before, enjoy.

*Note*, these are from CNRC's site and may not accurately reflect the recent changes for EA-6B sitting height. Hopefully this will clear up some of the misconceptions in this thread.

ANTHRO REQUIREMENTS:

FOR MALE SNA:
1. Thumb-tip Reach FR: 29.5 inches or greater
2. Buttock Knee Length: greater than 22 inches, but less than 26.5 inches
3. Sitting Height: greater than 34 inches, but less than 38.8 inches
FOR FEMALE SNA:
1. Thumb-tip Reach FR: 29.5 inches or greater
2. Buttock Knee Length: greater than 22 inches, but less than 26.5 inches
3. Sitting Height: greater than 33.5 inches, but less than 38.8 inches
FOR SNFO (MALE OR FEMALE):
1. Thumb-tip Reach FR: 27.5 inches or greater
2. Buttock Knee Length: 20.5 inches or greater
3. Sitting Height: 32 inches or greater
The following guidelines give directions as far as height concerns. Generally an applicant between 66" and 74" will be compatible for all pipelines.

Are these measurements for all aircrafts or jets only? Also, for ocs guys is nami at the beginning of ocs or do we wait till api??

thanks

Every person going through flight training has their official measurements done in NASC before API. I got measured other times, but the one done in Pensacola trumps all. Back when OCS was in Pensacola aviators would get measured in NASC because it was right across the street.

How to get shorter

I am looking for ways to make myself shorter for the test any ideas? My sitting height is 36.5, butt to knee 26.5, thumb tip reach 35, and I am 76inches tall.

Does anyone know what I can do to make myself shorter?

Seriously, though...there's not much point in trying to game the anthro measurements.

Jump off of a box/chair/something about two feet high, repeatedly, for about three hours before going in. Seriously.

Jason,

Your measurements sound very similar to my own. So, I understand your situation. My sitting height was too tall for jets AND helos (so...yeah you aren't THAT tall...), so I know how you feel and why you worry about being anthro limited.

Just a few things to think about with the trying to shrink ones self. There are waivers for knee length but no waivers for sitting height. Sitting height is a 'shall' as in you WILL be in that range, you'll learn the importance of shall later when it comes to NATOPS and the 3710. There is a very good reason behind the said shall as it was explained to me; basically, in the T-45 if you are too tall and you eject you will be killed because your head will go through the canopy before the canopy breakers.

So, think about trying to shrink yourself carefully, if the shit hits the fan and you have to punch out do you want to do it knowing you are going to kill yourself??? Now, let me add other food for thought that all of the other seasoned aviators on this board will back me up on, sometime during your flying career you WILL experience an emergency that won't be to fun (ie. serious). I've already had several minor ones flying around in the C-12 and P-3.

Just some food for thought...

Just had my first flight physical this week (went to Cherry Point for it, not Pensacola), and I'm positive that the guy doing the anthro measurements did it wrong. He put me down for 41" seated height, when just a few minutes ago I measured just under 39" sitting against the wall with my back as straight as I could get it.

Would this be something that would cause problems when they send the package down to the guys in Pensacola? If it is, does anyone know of a way to get remeasured so I can change it?

Well, just did more accurate measurements, and I'm at 39.5". I assume this is the end of the road for an SNA slot...

My sitting height was 39.8. I'm taller than hell, but i'm going pilot. I'm only good for multi-engine and tacamo but still pilot. If you have any questions send me a PM. I wouldnt give up just yet.

How long are anthro measurements good for? I.e. If the last time I was measured was 2008 will I be rechecked when I check into API this year? Can I request to be rechecked? My seated height is .14in over. I'm pretty sure I could shave my head and lose 1/8th of an inch, I've heard of people doing much more extreme things.

You WILL be put in the chair at API. They'll use human sized calipers and unless the 3 measurements are completely different, it will be the measurements that stick with you for the rest of your time as a 13--.

Maybe I'm dumb, but I've been searching and I can't seem to find the anthropometric restrictions for the T-45C. Could someone please post them?
